MSP Conspiracy on Freeskier

That's pretty ignorant... just because MSP does a mediocre job of big mountain segments (with a few notable exceptions, ABMA) doesn't mean you shit on the entire concept; PBP, Team 13, Chainsaw (hopefully) and Theory 3 still do a good job with it and it's an important part of the sport. Just because you don't like MSP doesn't mean you can compare what they film to racers going through gates on the big mount...ain... oh. Shit. They're doing that this year, aren't they. My bad.

 
yeah really the funniest part is, I think that the fact that they got freeskier to change the summary AFTER everyone has already read it, makes them look even worse.

the thing is is that i have nothign against big mountain...i hate msp. they have the worst style of editing. i like watching theory 3 and im gonna like booter crunk alot.

guys, MSP is making ski movies. we should boycott or hate them for any reason. i probablly missed something major, like they are using profits to fund the race industry, or something, because as far as i can see- more freeskiing movies= better for us. something to do in the summer, more respect and popularity shifts towards freesking, and more money for our athletes and companies. if you want to buy MSP, do it. if you dont, dont hate them.

i buy from whatever company looks good to me and gets alot of good reviews from you guys. i dont even know what company it is most of the time.

and ski movie 3 is sick. i just like to fast forward parts.

its weird that freeskier mag tossed around the word progressive on it though. i would really like to know why. seriously we have to have an explantion

It's unfortunate that at Freeskier (and a lot of other places), the people who call the shots are not the ones who think the same as you. I'm sure that a lot of people at Freeskier were unhappy with the decision to change that text, but hey, that's business - you don't talk shit about a film company that you're sponsoring.

Anyway, I think this is a great example of why they're making SKI TIME.

Thanks man. But still you guys shouldn't sponsor a movie you originally didn't like, maybe look to sponsor someone else if your heart isn't behind their product. Basically, just stop being whipped around by your business partner and say how you feel about it.

And I see this starting to turn into a Big Mt. v. Jib battle like the last DONT BUY MSP THREAD by Dishwalla. Don't. I love big mountain, just do NOT like MSP. If I want Big mountain lines, Team 13 and TGR are my places.

MSP does not have my money in the ski industry game anymore, and has not for a while.

That sums it up, but I'm still pissed I lost my other text. Damn.

it's all just bullshit, whoever got there first is who gets the money, ie msp, pbp. I would rather support good ol boy warren than msp.

everyone knows that level 1's the shit. And no one will even buy another msp movie after seeing shanghai six. Just the trailer makes me cream my pants.

...kind of makes sense that they don't think the same way as most of the people on this site. This site is dedicated to 'newschoolers', a youthful, park oriented demographic, while freeskier's demographic consists of freeskiers, a much larger market, made up of a mix of skiers, over a larger age range, park enthusiasts, big mountain rippers, ex-racers, even skiers who would enjoy watching an entire msp film!

Plus, the people who run freeskier are not in grade school or high school anymore like most of the people on this site. The people who 'think the same as you' too busy getting an education, or are out skiing too much to start magazines.

Too many drama queens on here IMO. We've acknowledged what happened, but we already knew certain individuals were capable of shady tactics, no surprise what happened.

 
I thought freeskier was skiing inderpendent magazine?? Not the magizine that takes shit from anyone they sponser. Fuck if i had known they will write anything they are told by sponsers ill just read skiing.

thats why they delete threads that hype up companys that are posted by the company, its free advertisement, and when your a big name like msp i think they can afford to pay 60 dollars or whatever it is

nah, ns is way too self-righteous to accept them. plus, ns knows the direction of skiing way too well to accept them. plus cko gets off on denying acceptance of companies that are not cool enough to be associated with his website.

 
To clear this up a bit, the original text was written by an intern, and was never read by the editors before it was posted. When the editors' attention was called to the article, the text was changed because while that statement was the opinion of the intern in question, it is not the opinion of Freeskier magazine as a whole. This had nothing to do with Steve Winter, but was due to a communication failure in the Freeskier office.

Also, I was incorrect in saying that Freeskier is a sponsor of MSP this year. "My bad!"

I have to admit, i'm a little dissapointed in Freeskier..

But I guess it's the same thing everywhere. In a lot of magazines i read outside of skiing (eg photography), its the same thing. Gear reviews, movie reviews, book reviews, whatever, etc are all soft and sugar coated because the people they are reviewing are the people who pay thier saleries (directly or indirectly, or perhaps just in the sake of keeping good relations for future business). I must say though, i didn't expect Freeskier to fall into the same boat as the larger publications im talking about. It's hard to buy the intern thing as well.

This whole thread is a great justification as to why you should never put much weight in gear reviews, (or reviews of anything, ie movies) writen by a magazine, they are really only filler and are should only be taken with a grain of salt.
