MSP - Both sides

MSP makes the sickest movies I have ever seen in the ski industry other than TGR and Warren Miller. These guys are pros.

I'd like to see one person on this site make a movie better than them.

Sure they're not "core" but they still make killer shots, have the sickest athletes, and try to make it entertaining.

True, they're big for the ski movie industry. But you can't deny that the amount of money that they have helps them out a lot.

The bad

They make repetetive shots. With the amount of money they have, they should be able to switch around their style a little.

They are huge, and not focused on the ski industry as a whole. They are trying to make a lot of money, just like every business but since theyre in a smaller business, it's worse.

They take songs from other movies and steal animations. Man. Petty theft makes them criminal.

The Ugly

You.

Just kidding, pay attention to the top.

the fact taht their movies have stayed all but unchanged since 1993 makes me sick. I used to love them, now I dispise them and hope they loose their jobs.

did you watch any other company's films this year? there were a bunch that were better. TGR, L1P, PBP, and TBC to name in the most trendy way possible four such companies.

they take some amazing shots, but they assemble the shots in a terrible way. And they manage to assemble their shots in this way every bloody year

I didn't say they were THE best...just up there.

I've seen TGR and part of L1P and part of TBC.

"MSP makes the sickest movies I have ever seen in the ski industry other than TGR and Warren Miller. These guys are pros."

Ohio Freestyle, Theory-3, Level 1, Poorboyz...need I go on? lets get serious here

"I'd like to see one person on this site make a movie better than them."

Well all of those companies I mentioned above are on newschoolers, but there are several trailers on NS that I thought were better than MSP movies. I Hate NY, Snowy Delight, etc

"Sure they're not "core" but they still make killer shots, have the sickest athletes, and try to make it entertaining."

yeah I guess so, although the entertaining part is all a matter of perspective

"True, they're big for the ski movie industry. But you can't deny that the amount of money that they have helps them out a lot."

yeah...helps them to find free tutorials...haha but seriously I dont think they use their budget at all to its full potential.

I have no opinion on this...I've never watched a full movie in my life by them I just took responses from other NSers and put them into 1 thread!

so true...

there are tons of people on this site that make better movies than msp.

Josh berman is on here. Plehouse people are on here. offtrail too I believe, maybe rage....all better than msp. in fact, im calling the roundtop riders movie to be better than push.

the good things you listed them as pros, almost every ski movie company is professional.

for the bad or ugly, why not list their lack of creativity by using tutorials for the trailer, and their movies as a whole, their disgraceful and horrible business practices.

it sucks that skiing is getting so big that mean companies are starting to get too powerfull. no one buy this movie

I would say TGR was probably better. TBC was interesting, but with far too little big mountain footage. Same with PBP, War was great, but not enough big mountain. Level 1...please. The probablem is that MSP consistently delivers great big mountain footage, and enough of it. TGR is the only company that comes close. I think the majority of was get to see most of the films. If you like to watch people ripping mountains as opposed to spinning, MSP has only one competitor, and that is TGR. War was great, but it was still far too much jibbing. L1P really does nothing for me. You actually failed to mention the best movie of the year, which was Waiting Game. It is not that people do not see other films than MSP's, it is that there are very few film companies which offer enough big mounain footage. TBC, L1P, and PBP still have a long way to go. TGR is the only other company that does something similar to what MSP does.

claiming MSP makes the best movies and then stating you've seen "parts of tgr, and parts of tbc" is liek saying dudesex is the best because you saw a tit and poonana once and we'ren't turned on

So basically, you're a douchebag and really it's futile to even try to create a discussion out of this, because these opinions aren't even your own? Why do you bother making posts like this? Are you just trying to understand why people don't/do like msp? Is that all?

Fuck, I hate you more and more everyday.

riders remix was my favorite last year. thats from msp but is that different since the riders edited it?

Way to go, seeing as your whole first post is your opinion, or at least stated that way:

"MSP makes the sickest movies I have ever seen in the ski industry other than TGR and Warren Miller. These guys are pros.

Come on matt.

don't make a thread about it then. keep it to yourself rather than filling the cesspool with your opinions based on other's opinions. that doesn't add to the discussion in any way.

Dude, some of you kids in here have never taken a powder turn in your life. You have no idea of what you are talking about. I am so sick n tired of the haters in here, with so much bullshit about money and blah blah blah. Listen up:

MSP makes SKI movies, and they are good at it. Their movies are about all, or most, aspects of freesking, with empahsis on big mountain and powder. That is the MSP menu. TGR and Rage are also in that street.

No film companies steal songs from eachother. They all work with music advisors, often the same company, and you can hear the same songs appear in multiple action sport movies, summer and winter sports. They DO NOT steal from eachother.

Level1, PBP and some others are more oriented on jibbing, and they are good at it. BUT, you have to distinguish between these genres. There is no point in hating MSP, PBP or anyone actually, because they all do their thing regardless of how you personally want it. Your personal preference might be urban rails and pure jibb flicks, but still you have no reason to hate another film company because the happen to sell more movies or get more sponsor money than your particular favourite. OK, you might jack off watching Jonny D adding more grease to his hair, or give Josh B a b-job if you had the chance because you love their movies to much, but - come on - hating others just isn´t necessary. They all do their own thing, just as car manufacturers. OK, you own a shitty Jeep, you´re true to "the soul and movement" (read: crappy US car industry and like to spend a fortune in gas and repairs), but hey, you still have no reason for hating Lexus (Japaneese). Just respect that they happen to make better quality cars for their target group, and live with it. Respect that Level1 and PBP are making movies about jibbing and newschool skiing, and respect that MSP and TGR are making movies for a broader segment that has emphasis on on powder and big mountain.

Some of you very young and very angry park rats in here have never taken a powder turn in your life, all you know is spins and rails. I totally respect that, and I don´t hate you at all for that. You have your particular field of interest, others might have a totally different field of interest. Point is: There´s no point of hating Level1 or PBP because they don´t make the type of movie that you prefer, and vice versa, there´s no point of hating MSP or TGR because they don´t make the type of movie that you prefer. Just respect what they are producing, and live with it. No need for raging about all this bullshit. Word of the day.

Now, let me guess, the next reply in this tread is from a kid that picks up a word or sentence in this reply, and start throwing the shit again.

They may not steal songs from people.

But they steal funding. They killed TBC.

You may think they are good at making ski movies, i think they're bland and stale compared to everything else out there, especially TBC.

You're missing the point. I at least don't care that they make a big mountain movie as opposed to a park one.

I care about their ethics, what they are doing to the industry and the messed up things that go on behind closed doors, all the while giving people the same thing year after god forsaken year.

It goes beyond the movie being what it is, but why the movie is what it is and why it sells. it's very messed up.

it's called poaching songs, and it's a retarded thing to do for a ski movie production company. msp seems to be really good at it. but don't forget, pbp is pretty much on par with matchstick on this issue. and memo to level 1: tbc called, they want their musical genre back.

^^did you see the guy a few posts up posting links to the Waiting Game? and people dont rip on TGR. People rip on msp because of their sleezy business tactics and cookie-cutter, Ultra-slow-mo movies.

uh... People don't hate msp because they focus on big mountain... people hate msp because they're basically uncreative, big budget, business sharks that showcase skiing in an elitist, inaccessble, boring manner.

This part of skiing is a seperate lifestyle from that the msp tries to portray it seems.

Don't jump to conclusions that every one hates powder because msp is a big pile of suck...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

OH MY GOD! I NEED AIR HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA

THATS FUCKIN HILLARIOUS HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

....oh man... Wow.

minus the fact that to me, as a level 1 supporter for years, it reflects zero aspects of the company's style of skiing and production. but hey, good for them for generating this much support.

i think thats more of just a general trend in skiing and music these days. Techo/electrical stuff is back, and it's hot. Plus, Level one has had some stuff similar to the teaser in past years. They used ladytron in travis redd's seggy in high 5. ATC was in the bonus of high 5 and in shanghai six. Travis redd had more disco stuff in shanghai if i remember correctly. Plus, it's not like TBC was the first to use that genre of music, remember NASM, and i'm sure there've been others. Poaching songs is lame, but i don't think a company can lay claim to an entire genre.

i really don't feel the need to argue this, but first off, tbc = rostrup = nasm. secondly, yes there was techno beginning in high 5. it has also been widely remarked that the true level 1 era was lost, beginning with high 5. take from that what you will.

This has to be Royale on an alias or something! He is the only fool on NS who would post something quite so ridiculous.

it is kind of true that high 5 was where level 1 became less hip-hop oriented and more indie oriented. thats my observation anyway
