Mp3 Players, what you got and what i need.

Whats everybody runnin for mp3 players? i have a creative nomad last year, but broke it in a not so smooth stratton parking lot juggle session. Im thinking about the Rio S50 with 256mb. anyone got one of these, or anything else in its class? i really dont need the space of an i pod, so thats out of the quewstion. what you got?

 
I've got a Nomad JB3 20Gb. Everything about it rules except for the size and shitty computer interface. But it was a hell of a lot cheaper than an iPod, so it's cool.

I know you said you didn't have enough $$$ for an iPod, but when you consider the following you may change your decision...

1.) iPod's are not flash based like other 128, 256, etc. mp3 players, therefore there are no moving parts, therefore they'll never skip. (iPod's have a 25 MINUTE skip protection)

2.) iPod's are compatible with both Apple and Windows

3.) They're not only mp3 players, but you can use them as a portable hard drive, so if you have a huge video or project on your computer you need to take somewhere else, you can drop it onto your iPod and you're set. (the iPod's are connected via FireWire cables too, so you can transfer an entire cd onto your iPod in under 5 seconds)

4.) They new come in 10GB, 20GB, and 40GB sizes (fucking insane.)

So I know they're expensive, but in my opinion you're just throwing your money out the window if you're going to buy anything else.

 
most flash mp3 players have no moving parts, so how can they skip? I have never in its life had my old nomad skip on me, even downhilling 40 plus mph through rockbeds on a hardtail at mtsnow. thats enough rattle to shake your arms off, yet the dam thing never skipped. i think im goin with the s50 or the muvo nx

 
Yeah dude - flash cards are solid state, so no moving parts. iPods and Nomads have a hard disk inside, so they DO have moving parts. The buffer on my Nomad is about 7 mins at 128kbps, and loads quickly - I'd imagine the iPod is similar - it's unlikely that it will skip on you.

 
for the most bang for your buck, save and get an ipod, so what if u never even take up half of the giant hd they give you, id rather have the space and never use it then run out eventually. plus the size and interface and firewire transfer rate alone are worth the extra cash

i had Nomad MuVo 128....amazing price, great features and one of the smallest.....mine malfunctioned, but they are supposed to be very reliable

ive got a 20 gb iPod and it's sick....also what they didn't mention is that it has a games and a calender...the fact that ill be able to bring in my movies from home to school is sick...also its compatible with macs and pcs so you can get music from your friends computers as well as your own...i have 148 songs that ive downloaded and they take up 613.4 MB out of 20 GB..

no they arent...the 10, 15, 30, 40 GB are the ones that are windows compatible...

go get the new iPod if u have the cash. personally I use a couple things. An MP3/WMA CD player, and irock (192=64 built in + 128 smart media chip), and I have an MPman (192=64 built in + 128 smart media chip).

Bigger smart media chips exist.

i got a 20gb ipod lastyear for xmas

it connects throught firewire so its wicked fast.

and i use it mostly for tranfering autocad files from school to home

Senortetas youre a a dumbass. They have had 20gb iPods for at least a year now. Well close to a year I know. I got a 10gb in October, and I fcould have gotten a 20gb for 100bucks more.

Dont talk about what you dont know.

 
^ apple switch from 5,10,20 gb to 10,15,30 gb and 2 wekens ago they switched to 10,20,40 gb so actually the 20 gb new ones have only been around for like 2 weeks...they run on a new system...

I just got a MPIO FL100 and it is sick. I dont need multiple gigs and I got an MP3 player for its minute size. The FL100 is the size of a lighter!!

They come in 128 , 256, and 512 Mb. I got the 512, because they can also be upgraded with memomory cards, so next year when they prices drop, I am going to update it to 1 gig.

Its sick.

Just shop around. There is heaps out there besides the iPod.
