Moving to SF this winter - fill me in

Check back a little bit later for a post from me. I am definitely heading up this weekend from Oakland. I will be driving my wrangler. I am probably hitting up sugar bowl or squaw, and will know in the next hour or so if i have any extra seats.

its like no one realizes that the only thing open will be the White Ribbon of Death. 15 inches of super blower on top literally no other snow means that nothing is going to be open except the man made gaper clusterfucks of death.

next weekend could begin to look promising though if the storm window opens up the way it looks it might...

sugar bowl was fucking great today for the first half of the day! almost two feet all around and wind blown stashes waist deep on me! Totally worth skiing side by side with "gapers"

Just out of curiosity - where do you guys live in the bay area and, on average, how long does it take you to get to Tahoe?

I'll be moving this summer and want to find a place with easy access to work (financial district) that also allows me to get on my way to Tahoe and miss as much traffic as possible. Unfortunately, thanks to work, this most likely means joining the rest of the traffic and heading up Friday evenings.

I've been looking around the Berkley/Oakland area, but the cost of rent even further out is also super appealing. I am almost sold on not living in the city at this point because I will have a car and imagine that driving in the city/across the bridges would be a nightmare (please correct me if I am mistaken!). I assume that BART is a faster way into/out of the city - so I would go that route then just hop in the car right when I get home.

I appreciate any input from in and around the city. Hope you guys get more snow!

Thanks

J

I live in the middle of Marin County. It takes about 3ish hours to get to Tahoe, and a little longer to get to the Northern Side. Traffic gets really bad near the huge junction around Berkeley/Oakland, but if you're planning to head up in the early, early morning and come back at night you shouldn't hit much, probably a will hit a little in Sacramento.

I moved to the Bay Area this past summer, was originally in SF and now I live in Rockridge on the Berkeley / Oakland line.

Would love to connect with some fellow freeskiers in the area. I have a car and make trips out to Tahoe pretty much every weekend, working 8-5pm weekdays. I have a pass to Squaw and Alpine, but I have some friends that live out at Tahoe and ride Northstar and Heavenly so I wouldn't mind dropping $ on a day pass there sometime.

I'll be driving up tomorrow (sat 2/22) - if anyone wants to share a ride hit me up.

And fuck. Totalled my car, so now I have no way from SF to Tahoe. Anyone want to carpool from the city? I have the vail seasonal to kwood, heavenly and northstar.
