Moving to Hudson, OH

I'm moving to Hudson this August due to my dad's new job. Was wondering what the skiing situation is in the Cleveland area. I'm looking at getting a season pass at BMBW since it's only gonna be 15 minutes away, but I've heard mixed reviews. Can someone give me some pros/cons? I don't wanna have to drive to PA or NY every weekend so I hope it doesn't suck....

PS- once the season rolls around hmu cause i need friends to ski with....

I grew up a few minutes from BMBW, and went to college in Columbus (skiing Mad river). So I have skied lots of both resorts. Honestly, Mad River is too far from BMBW to be worth it. I think it's 2.75+ hrs. BMBW can really suck ass a lot but if we get a good year for snow and the park crew doesn't have their heads completely up their asses, it isn't so bad. Really bmbw is just nice because it's so close. We tend to never have big jumps. Think the biggest one last year was a 25 footer. Lots of rails to play with though.

Lots of people to ski with at brandywine though. I can go alone and always run into 3+ people to lap with. Oh also BMBW is run by a total moron, josh boyd. He's the son of Tim boyd who owns peak resorts.

I used to do the whole weekend trips to Springs/HV/PeeknPeak, but it is just too expensive and tiring to be viable long term.

Thanks for the info! k+, I was looking into traveling to ny/pa on the weekends but like you said it just seems expensive af. I think I'll just get a season pass at BMBW, plus I'll be able to shred Crystal up in Michigan on long weekends and Xmas. How big is the park usually? And how long is the season? I've heard they open at new year's usually but I saw some videos on youtube from a few years ago (2012?) when they were open late november/ early december.....

They almost always open by the middle of the second week of december or so. Sometimes even the last week of Nov. Last season was really weird, it was cold as shit for a few weeks in Nov, some resorts blew snow but BMBW did not. As a result, they couldn't open until new years since weeks of warmth follwed that cold stretch. Generally we can ski until mid march, sometimes later into march.

Park is generally anywhere from 1-4 jumps, with anywhere from 10-20ish rails.

They typically don't get a full build going until early Jan, or a few weeks into the season.

Thanks for the info man, sounds pretty good. See you out there!

BMBW isn't too bad of a place to ski. I live in Stow so it is just as close to me. Their poor management shows at the end of the season when they give up after all the ski clubs end but for us who are not in a school club it creates some quiet weekday laps. The park crew was good in the 13-14 season but this year they were ok. If you didn't know this already, Brandywine is way better than Boston Mills for park. Brandywine has a main park and a progression park. The events such as big air are always a good time. Same with rail jams. The park crew killed it the 13-14 rail jam but this year it was really basic. I recommend going skiing on the weekday if you can because it can get pretty crowded Friday night through Sunday.

If your looking to buy a pass there is an sale in October during the open house. There is also a sale that starts late season that goes to the end of April.

I heard about the open house, I'll get my pass there. I also saw there's been rail jams during the open house in october on turf and ice rink snow... Do you have any experience with that? cause it looks hella fun and I wanna go to it if they have it this year...

I have never skied that rail jam before but it looks fun. Im not so good so I tend to stay away from the jams. They have had it evry year that I have been skiing. You should check it out. Depending on the setup I might try it this year.

In the 12-13 season they had Nick Goepper and Tom Wallisch. Here is the link to the video

ice rink snow.

I play hockey so every time I go to the rink which is 15 min away I want to ski on the snow outside but im pretty sure they don't allow people to shred there and I have no way of getting it to my house.

Haha yeah when I get my licence this fall I'm definitely gonna get some old trash cans and fill em up with ice rink snow for my setup

I live in brecksville and also need some people to ski with. The management is garbage at bmbw. The parks didnt have a jump until the third week of February(they opened the 1st which was the latest in a long time.) They always have a good park though and they have a double quad for that reason. Progression park is annoying because you can never get speed for the jumps there and the tow rope is soooooo slowwwwwww. Dont even go to boston mills. The had 4 rails and 2 10 ft jumps. Before the gay new manager came they had like 10 features easily with some good jumps. Also the snow is icy a ton but the big park at brandywine is usually good in terms of snow quality. The food is overpriced af. Season passes are so worth it because you can get laps for days if you live by. There is an airbag weekend every year and the wait is usually like 5-10 minutes on a saturday. Last year they put in "cliff jumps" on one of the blacks so that was fun. Big air is always amazing. Its a good time dont worry. There are so many park rats who you can make friends with. I met one who i run into at cross country meets every weekend not knowing until i met him. Its 50/50 in terms on snowboarders to skiers so its not bad. Just remember to never go to mills unless u want to take some turns. If you ever want to meet up hmu
