So I just moved back to New Hampshire after three years in Utah. I haven't skied in the East since the winter of 2005/2006. I remember what it's like a little bit, groomers everywhere=corduroy. Powder a couple of times a year=wet cement. Rather then detuning skis, I will actually need to have an edge here. I am thinking about getting some park skis for the resort and some AT binders for my EHP's. I don't see my EP pro's having any use in the East... I am trying to be positive about the situation and make the best of it hear before I can afford to buy a house out West. Any thoughts from people who have made a similar transition?

Well, I was living paycheck to paycheck, not saving any money and skiing as much as possible. I looked for some better jobs in Utah, but it's not the easiest business market to crack into. My parents offered to let me stay at home while working for my dad's insurance company. That way I can save lots of money and hopefully purchase a home out West in the future while the market is still low.That being said Utah is perfect for the ski bum. You can easily live off of 10-11 dollars an hour. The season is long. Mountain biking in the summer. And golf is cheap as hell at amazing courses. I just wasn't successful there finding a real job and saving money to support a family in the future.For those future ski bums heading out to Utah: look for a job at backcountry.com. It was my favorite job ever, great people, lots of ski perks (40+ pairs of skis you can check out, including the whole moment line). They do not drug test either, while lots of similar jobs in the area do test you.
I'm not to bitter about it. I had my "time in the sun" if you will. The trees and rains of the East have been so pleasurable since getting back here. Seeing family is a huge plus too. I know once winter roles around I am going to be kicking myself, but that's why I am saving to get out West for good.
