Movie Vs. Competition skiers

Movies probably have more exposure, so I'd put my money on that. The only exceptions there would be the X-games or the Olympics. Good question though, it's really hard to say what would be the best for the company.
 
DEFINATLEY competitions, only people in the ski industry watch movies, but competitions (especially big ones) can be televised to a much wider audiance than ussual
 
i'd say for a a up and coming skier comps becuase no film company is gonna wanna use you until you've proved yer self in some pro level competition. but a pro thats been around for a long time i'd say vid parts
 
Yeah, comps are like proving grounds to get noticed. Once you are noticed, heavily sponsored, and can throw down, you start getting hook ups to get heli time and just make movie parts. At least that's what it seems like. Look at Pollard for example.
 
Comps definitely get you noticed. Within the industry videos are more important, as they show alot more of what a skier can actually do. With comps nowadays, you only have halfpipe and slopestyle. In a video part you can show big mountain, backcountry kickers, park, pipe, and urban. The big mountain contests do not seem to be popular anymore, so it is impossible to show that you are a well rounded skier only in contests. But if a guy comes along who does well in big mountain contests, pipe contests, and slopestyle, then I will eat my words. That would be sick.
 
Competitions defenitely get you noticed but I think the ultimate goal is to make a good movie segment. But winning the Xgames and saying on TV: "I would like to say thanks to all my sponsors, Salomon, Orage, etc..." makes money.
 
hahahaha.....you are soo wrong about the tanner/pep thing.....in europe...and most of north america... pep is alot better known. But i do agree that comps make more money.....but they suck for the skiers....that is why you see alot of skiers doing strictly comps/movies.
 
but then skiers even get fed up of movies....and become mountain guides. Skiing for the hell of skiing, now that is what it is all about.
