Move in day- UofU

i dont live there but i work at the outdoor recreation program up by the dorms and you should come check it out. We rent all sorts of camping and outdoor gear along with skis, beacons, shovels, probes etc and sell discount lift passes. all the stuff is cheap for students and also have a a good resource for finding out about hikes, ski tours or places to go out and camp.

I just transferred to the U from Westmini but want a campus job wheres the best place to look besides online? (sorry don't mean to thread-jack)

Hell yeah.

OG 4bi9 room was 62138 in 807. Then the other was 806. best buildings. Super close to bus stop and the HC.

I miss being in college already.

So far I'm not regretting it. Also it isn't like you can't join both if you felt like it.

HEATH! Bestow your vast wisdom on me. Why is One Love better?

While both clubs give you the same prices on passes, which is the main reason to join, One Love has much better premiers, sponsors, benefits, gatherings and trips.

I'll have to look at the trips and stuff to see if I should just sig up for One Love too or if I'll be ok with just UFS. Also I ski at Alta which unfortunately means I can't ride with half of One Love's members.

I guess I'll just be Forever Alone

Its fucking stupid there are two clubs and UFS is the reason there are two clubs. Years ago One Love approached UFS and suggested they join together. UFS said no because they are pretentious douche bags. So it has been my life goal to support one love and tell UFS to fuck off. They really should just join together, they would have twice the budget, twice the members and could work out so many more deals with premiers and such, but UFS sucks and wont do it.

Amen Brother. Too bad I bought into UFS like three days ago. :/

If I feel so Inclined, I'll join One Love too this weekend.

So really what it comes down to is that when you pay your $10 to UFS, all of your money is going towards the club getting the best deals possible for you. Additionally you will know that none of your money is going towards a snowboard premier. (which is why Utah Freeskier Society is showing 6 ski movies this fall, while OneLove is showing 1).

When you join OneLove you pay $15, and part of your money will be going towards supporting the snowboarding industry.

whatever you want to do with your money is fine.

And to dispell the rumors that eHeath always tries to spread this time of year. Here is a little History:

2000 - There was no ski club on campus. In fact, there were no ski clubs on any campus in the western United States. Sure, perhaps there were groups of skiers at some colleges that asked for money to form a group, but there were no clubs even comparable to the size you find at many Universities these days. A few students got together, decided they were sick of paying full college prices for season passes. They wanted to find a way to make skiing cheaper for college students. They formed Utah Freeskier Society (now in its 11th year of operation). They approached resorts (remember, this had never been done before) and asked them to give further discounts on their season passes. A few resorts (mainly Snowbird) agreed, they offered a pass to club members around $70 cheaper than their posted college price.

2003 - Another club on campus formed. This one was Snowboarding specific. They were the University of Utah Snowboard Club. They asked Utah Freeskier Society some specific details about how they were formed, and Utah Freeskier Society helped them get up and running.

2004 - 2006 - The clubs coexisted on campus. Utah Freeskier Society continued to grow and became the largest student run organization that ASUU had ever seen. Utah Snowboard Club grew, but their membership never really competed with the number of members that Utah Freeskier Society had. The events ran many joint events together during this time. Often times showing double features of ski and snowboard movies together.

2007 - Utah Snowboard Club was disappointed with the lackluster events and number of members it was seeing, and approached Utah Freeskier Society with an idea to merge the clubs together. Utah Freeskier Society club officers had seen the dismal performance of Utah Snowboard Club in the past and was wary to consider this change, but honestly did consider it. The reason that Utah Freeskier Society turned down Utah Snowboard Club's offer to join was based mainly on the way they approached the club. The officers of the snowboard club had already been appointed that year, and they basically said "We want to become the ski and snowboard club on campus so there is only 1 club, oh, and by the way, we only need 1 or 2 of you guys to come and help us". When Utah Freeskier Society turned them down, Utah Snowboard Club turned into OneLove

2008-2011 - Utah Freeskier Society and OneLove have been coexisting at the U. Neither club really cares much about what the other club is doing. They have even worked together on a few projects. Only douchebag dickholes like eHeath really care that both exist. My opinion: Join both. Where else do you get 2 clubs that support the sport you love?

Well its SKI AND SNOWBORD bro, if they combined their clubs um sure ASUU would give them the same budget, its probably only like 500 bucks anyways. And most the people who work for one love ski... sorry UFS are douches and only allow skiing, there are a shit ton of snowboarders at the U too and combining clubs would be very beneficial, if you don't see that then you're fucking retarded. Aren't you smart? i thought you were a law student.

haha..that was my brother. He accidentally posted from my account. Sorry about that. I'm kicking him off of my laptop.

Yeah, that was me.

... Your logic is still faulty to a point though. Having 2 clubs on campus actually does allow

for higher caliber and quantity of events.

Look at it this way:

OneLove is currently spending about 80% of its budget on

snowboarding events. Mostly because they

know that there is a skiing club on campus.

This means that the remaining 20% is going directly towards skiers.

Now, just hypothetically speaking we will assume that

OneLove has membership somewhere close to 900 members (based on ASUU estimates). We can also assume that OneLove's membership

is comprised of approximately 65% snowboarders (585) and 35% skiers (315).

On the other hand we will assume that Utah Freeskier Society

has membership topping out around 700 members (based on ASUU reporting). In this case we can assume that 95% (665) of

the members are skiers and 5% are snowboarders (35). Their budget is entirely spent on skiing

events.

Now, this does not mean that there are 1600 total club

members. Somewhere close to 40% (126) of

the skiers that join OneLove are also joining Utah Freeskier Society. This means that there are potentially 1474

skiers/snowboarders that are readily available to join a club if only a single

club existed.

For now we will pretend that both clubs cost $10 to join

(although we both know that OneLove just raised their fee’s to $15). We will assume this, solely because that is a

pricing issue and doesn’t effect the outcome in the long run (since this is a

comparison of the clubs with or without joining together, and is not in fact a

comparison of the benefits of each club against each other).

We know that t-shirts cost around $5 each to print. So each club in this scenario is making a $5

profit on each member that joins. When I

say profit, I mean money that can go directly towards the club budget. This budget is what is used to buy SWAG for

movie premiers as well as venue rentals and video licensing.

Now, lets take a look at the numbers.

Currently, OneLove is bringing in (with $10 fee) about

$4500/year to be added to their budget. If you add the approximated $500 ASUU

budget that is $5000/year.

Utah Freeskier Society is bringing in (with $10 fee) about

$3500/year to be added to their budget. If you add the approximated $500 ASUU

annual budget, that is $4000/year.

With OneLove spending 80% of their monies on snowboarding

movie premiers and swag, they are allocating about $4000 towards snowboarding

and $1000 towards skiing. Utah Freeskier

Society would be allocating $4000 towards skiing. (Again, do not get mad here, this is not a

comparison of how the clubs are spending their funds, just keep following and

you will see where I am going).

This means that in total, Skiing is getting around $5000 of

student’s money while Snowboarding is getting around $4000. A fairly equal share, most likely weighted

towards skiing.

Now, if we were to combine both clubs, what would

happen. This is the reason I used the

same $10 analysis above. Because this

is the comparison that really matters:

If there were to be a single club on campus, we have already

established that there is some crossover between clubs. It has been verified in this very

thread. So, with 1474 club members, the

new combined club would bring in about $7370.

If you add the money from ASUU (which would not increase) you would get

$7870. The new club would presumably spend

50% of the funds on skiing and 50% on snowboarding. Which means that Skiing would get $3935 and

Snowboarding would get $3935 (actually less than what either is getting with

two clubs existing on campus)

Lastly, there is a 3rd scenario here. Keeping the clubs separate entities, but

having 1 be a ski club and 1 be a snowboard club. Using the same numbers as before. 854 skiers ready to join a club, 620

snowboarders ready to join a club. If

both clubs charged equal fees and both clubs spent 100% of their budgets on

their own respective sports, Utah Freeskier Society would bring in $4270 + $500

ASUU ($4770) and Utah Snowboard Club would bring in $3100 + $500 ASUU

($3600). Skiing would receive about as

much money as it is getting now, and snowboarding would also be fairly close to

what it is getting right now with the existence of Utah Freeskier Society and

OneLove.

So, based solely in theory (which is a basis of logic),

having Utah Snowboard Club convert its name to OneLove has not really affected

anything. Both sports are still

maintaining the same market share that they had in the past. Both sports are still having roughly the same

budget spent on them as they did in the past.

However, combining the clubs into a single entity would decrease the

number of ski movie premiers that are held on campus and it would decrease the

amount of money skiing is currently getting.

One last point.

Having a larger club would not mean more pull with sponsors. The brands that skiers really care about

(Armada, 4Frnt, ON3P, Saga, Surface, Causwell, etc.) don’t care if there is a

club of 1450 members (if a large portion of them are snowboarders) since none

of those brands market towards snowboarders.

They would rather have their energies go towards a club that they know is

receiving their message in a positive light.

so you try to call out my brother for not being smart (for something I said on his account), but when I prove your logic wrong with very low-level math you are too stupid to even read it? How much shit do you have for brains anyway?

im sorry but the bottom line is that one love does a better job with the club... period. A lot of your logic is assuming that skiers dont have anything to do with the snowboard part of the club and vice versa, which isnt really true. I go to a ton of the snowboard premiers and I know a lot of the other skiers do too. I feel like if one love had all of the "market" and money they would be much more kickass then two separate clubs

Nah you wrote too much, i dunno what you're even arguing about, go fuck off somewhere.

LOLZ you are retarded. Just stop speaking because you are talking bullshit and sounds dumb.
P.S like stated above...please swallow a shotgun. bye

OneLove is legit but also caters to more of a snowboarding crowd. Im glad there are 2 clubs. Both serve a purpose. In addition competition is a good thing in any market.

Market = The arena of competitive or commercial dealings

There is competition and it is commerical dealings because we are dealing with an exhange of money for goods or services etc. In short, commerce is present.

Stop going out of your way to look like an idiot / troll / annoy people

You and the guy above you. Seriously? They're fucking clubs about Winter Sports. Why is it such a big deal that you tell someone to "Swallow a shotgun." That's beyond fucked up and coming from someone who supports a group fucking called "One Love" it also seems a tad ironic. Just be stoked we have such awesome clubs at all and stop fucking stressing.

not trying to be a dick or even pick sides, i don't go to and never have gone to the U, but UFS premieres fucking suck. that atmosphere is miserable. premiere = party in my mind, all premieres should be more like the level1/4bi9 last year, that was epic. not sitting in a shitty auditorium.
