you need to focus on what type of riding you want to do. Is it DJs, urban, trials, XC, DH, or a mix between everything.

How much experience do you have?

How much do you want to spend?

Post up some more details man

Well off road, soo a good hardtail, with at least 4-5" of travel. Im recomending like Brodie hard tails cause they have a wide spread of costs and bikes. also check of devinci hucker, norco's, and rockey mountain. I wouldn't go with a kona, cause your paying for the name, not the bike. Its over priced.

i just got a specialized hard rock disc, but with an up grade on the front shocks... If your looking at another hardtail, why dont you just get a new fork.. (marzocchi bombers, dirtjumpers etc..).. that would save you alot of money..

get a giant stp 1 i just got it and couldnt be happyer its lighter than all the norco bikes and the price is good 1300 or if u want to go chaeper get the stp 2 for 800 the parts r not as good but the frame is the same as an stp1 hope i could help

does summer ever end

Norco 4by. Tis was I ride. Toughest bike there is. It fell off a bike rack going about 100 km/h no injuries whatsover. Plus she is rad for everything, dirt jumps, trails, drops, gaps, don't take it in the street or any skate parks, they suck there. But don't get this years 4by, get the 2004 frame, or even the 2002 frame.

AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA... mmm i hope your 12 anyways IMO there isnt such a thing as an all around bike . If you buy and try to ride it everywhere its gonna blow, you need a DH bike for DH, an urban bike for urban a Dj bike for DJ a road bike for ... you guessed it road, pick one then pick a bike.

"you only live once, Just Fucking go for it!!"

the hardrock kicks ass unless it is old... you can buy new forks crank derailer ect it will fucking rock 4 u

^AAAAHAHAHAHHAHA...... you are not smart. I think you are 11. All-round bikes are real, you just don't know. All round bike ...... Kona Stinky (even though tthey suck tis an all round bike) Norco Atomic, or Drop. Santa Cruz Bullit.... Nothing wrong with those all round bikes. You can ride fine on any trail, dirt jumps, street, grass, uphill. Maybe not road though.....

if you want a bike that will last longer than you will, and will take bigger drop and jumps than you can handle, banshee or evil is the way to go,forget any huge company for durability

you fucking moron, i own a kona stinky and its not a good and let me emphasize GOOD all around bike. Sure i can XC it but its not good.

"you only live once, Just Fucking go for it!!"

No your a moron, If you decided to own a shitty bike, then you should atleast be able to figure out that it will ride GOOD on all terrain. jeeze louise.

and that makes me 11 for saying that a hard rock kicks ass and my hardrock kicks ass so fuck off

And if you say that a Kona Stinky is not a good All-round bike, then what is it good for, Burning?? Because I dont think shitty alumnum is good for burning. Melting maybe, not burning.

Hardrock's are crosscountry, so don't get excited about your bike cause eveyone has one, and nobody cares. It's not a hardcore bike, and it doesn't have the greatest components, which is why its so cheap, and that's why eveyone has one.

K if your into crosscountry and you want a hardrock, go with the pro, or the one below it. The Hardrock disk is not that great.

full suspension is good for downhill; anything else it's just added weight. and if you want a 'core' bike for hitting all the big stuff, make sure that you don't build it too heavy- that's the mistake that 80% of people make.

No Props!

i work at my local shop, if your looking for a good trail bike then check out bikes sutch as the giant trance, the jamis dakar, santacruz blur, intense 5.5, and the santa cruz heckler. if your looking for a good XC bike look at the trek fuel, the titus racer x and of course the santacruz superlight, and intense spyder. if ur looking for a good downhill race bike check out models from giant, and santa cruz, intense, and the orange 223. if ur looking for a freride bike check out the santacruz vp free, intense uzzi vpx, orange patroit, and of course check out the kona stinky. if u want any more advice IM me at SKIBUM4973 (aim), or send me a message on NS

Id go for a thrashable hardtail. Something like a kona stuff, or brodie. If u want something more pedal specific, then maybe a kona dawg

but thats more expensive

Airborne B-29. Currently comes only in a titanium frame for 1300, but a aluminum model is coming out soon. Uses 700c (29") tires for increased rollover ability and decreased rolling resistance. Lower magnitude of travel. Its a hardtail, and, yes, it can do everything. Ive used my neighbor's (pat irwin http://www.kathysarns.com/pats.html ) without suspension on downhill and xc and, though my hands got sorta numb downhilling, it absolutely mobs. put a white bros or a rockshox reba up front and it would be sickter.

29" tires???

save urself trouble and go for normal 26"

som companies like giant and gary fischer experimented with 29" and ditched it as a bad move

although the sinsiter ridge is a kick ass bike (i have two, single speed, and geared) it was designed as a freride hardtale, thats it, the geometry is built around a 7 inch travel fork, it is not meant for xc, DJ, or urban riding.

yeah. im kinda in the same situation, dh is sooooo much fun but vancouver's a great town to ride all around, and i cant afford 2 bikes, not even one until I get a job and work for a while, so I saw a used devinci DH bike for 700 cdn, pretty good condition, some small dents on the upper fork but it never goes that high anyways, are devinci bikes any good or am I just gonna get screwed over next year and gonna have to change every component???

Gravity sucks

and what are some small brands that offer some quality bikes for cheap(around 2000 cdn)?

devinci are awesome bikes

if u want something for downhill there is a plethora of possibilities

the big companies are big for a reason, id go for kona or specialized, or even rocky mountain

ditched 29"? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??

29" is the fastest growing segment in mountain biking.

gary fischer still makes several models of their 29s, hardtail and full suspension. giant still makes them, KONA is going to release a new model soon...it cant grow fast enough!
