MOUNTING WITH NO BOOT?

I just got 1260's and I have s912's but i dont own a boot. the guy in the shop said it is a risk to mount skis if i rent boots as the boot length varies from comany to company. Shall i just get them to drill for a salomon and just try to rent salomons? I need to know soon coz i gotta ski soon before i go insane!

The shop guy is right, you do run that risk. However, if you know your size, and you get the sole length of a boot that fits (measured in mm on the side of the heel), you can mount the binding so that is the middle point. Then, you can move the heel piece back and forth with the boots that you rent, as most bindings have a heel piece that can move a size or two in either direction. I think it may be a liability for shops to do this, so they might not be willing.

 
Thanks ill probably risk it as i will try to rent salomon boots and there wont be a problem. in theory.

my rental experience:

man, when my skis were getting mounted, I rented boots cuz the shop had mine and we got a ton of snow. so anyhoo, i ask the dude for some 'mid-performance' boots. he brings out some plastic pieces of shit that look like something Buzz Aldrin would wear to the moon. I'm like 'put those away, give me a hi performance boot'. So I get a pair of spongy Heads with plastic digging into my foot, whatev. I'm skiing right? They made my arch hurt and my heel lifted like 2 inches inside. I was bagged by lunchtime. the next day, I'm back in my old boots and even though I exhausted myself the day before, I skiied all day and expended hardly any effort. like night and day. boots are the most important thing. you should buy boots first and rent skis. rentals are mental.

im just gonna sling crystal meth so i dont have to get a real job and can afford to ski, with the way my senior year is goin though thats probably one of my few options

i disagree, skis are more important, and when i rented boots, i never had a real problem

anyway, he didn;t ask whther he should buy boots...but if you can get some cheap, get them, or ask for some for xmas...

Boots are way more important, I was skiing at whistler with boots that I got in the off season and never skiied them. I went up and my foot went like puddy, I didnt even want to ski the rest of the day due to the boots.

 
renting boots is awefull. they are all broken in to someone elses foot and are uncomfortable.

Boots are THE MOST important thing. Its the only part that physically touches your body (minus poles), so wouldnt that be reason enough to sell the skis, and get a cheap pair of boots and skis? Maybe that would be just a tad TOO logical...

I donno what's more important, but if you're renting, find out what model / line / (at least) brand your hill rents and you can take a pretty good guess at the mm rating. My mtn rents all Rossi. I had my scratches mounted when my boots were elsewhere, they just used a similar boot to mine that they had instore. In my experience most brands have a consistent mm rating, so all size 28 boots will have the same mms.

Boots are the most important part of your setup. It's what's attached to your freakin foot for christ sake. If you don't have good boots, the performance of your bindings and skis are clearly compramised.

Buy some boots dude.

 
boots definitely are not the most important part of the set up. I've rented boots my entire life, never new and they have always been fine. To give an example, when i went to camp of champions this kid i met had rental rear entry boots. Now those are the true choice of beginners. This kid was throwing down backflips, flairs, 720s all off the biggest jump they had. Boots arent that important

skifree- ask any pro in the business. ask any rep in the business. ask any salesman in the business. ....boots are the most important part of your ski setup. nothing else would even come close.

 
Boots are definelty the most important they can make or break your day.

If you are mounting a ski with a different boot than the one you may be using in the future. You can run the risk of your boot not being centered on the ski. It's not a big deal, but it's something to think about if you are picky. Although, if you are still renting boots (the most important equiptment) you are probably not that picky.

buy boots you frickin retard...do you wanna go through the hassle of readjusting your foreward pressure, toe height and width on your 912's every time you get a different boot. I'm also guessing that you dont know how to do all this stuff on your own since you are renting boots so you would then have to pay the shop extra money to get the bindings set up right....buy boots you frickin retard

 
Those who say boots aren't the most important part, are either incredibly stupid, or just plain suck at skiing.
