Mounting pvc pipe

sorry if this has been talked about a lot i couldnt find the answer anywhere... i want to build a rail with a pvc pipe but i cant really figure out how to mount the pvc pipe onto a piece of wood. any suggestions?
 
i bought screws that were about half an inch longer than the thickness of the wood that i was mounting the pipes to. then i drilled the screw in through the bottom of the piece of wood and up through the pipes. you just have to make sure that the screws are small enough so that they won't go up through the other side of the pipes.<br>

k drill through the peice of pvc right into the wood. i no there will be a whole on the top of your ril but you don't even feel it when you slip across
 
clamp the pvc to the wood, then drill up through the bottom of the 2x4 or whatever into the wood. you might have to back it out a few times to get the hole started nicely

My brothers made a really small PVC rail, and they found an old board that was as long as the PVc, then the split the PVC down one side and fitted over one side of the board and nailed it in through the side. then they jut put supports on the side of the board. I'll post pics in a minute.

here's a pic, supports broke off so we have to bury it now, but you can see on the end how it was fitted over the wood. probably not the best way to do it, but an idea.
 
drill a hole through the whole pipe. it makes it so much easier when putting a screw in the middle of the pipe. then use a countersinking bit to round off the hole on top so u dont catch it and it should work like a charm. mine works great and the holes dont effect anything. In a different rail, i cut a squar out of one side of the pvc, put a small board in it, then drilled a hole through the side of the pipe and into the wood and just but a bolt through the whole thing. That works too but its a little more work.
 
do you guys have problems with drilling screws into wood? whenever I did it, the screw head slots would get damaged making the screw useless.
 
did you actually drill a pilot hole or just try to go screw directly into wood.

Onto the topic, the way I mount pvc is that I get small thin screws, Drill a big hole through the top part of the pipe, then the pilot hole through the bottom part and then the wood, drop the screw into the pipe and screw it into the wood. To sum it up, big whole on top, screw through bottom half of pvc into wood.

haha, as you can tell, I don't know shit about construction type things.

so you have to drill a pilot hole for every single screw you use? and does it have to go through both of pieces of wood that you are connecting and be the same length as the screws you're using?
