Mounting price

How much is your local ski shop charging for a mount?

I haven't bought a mount in years- dropped by a local shop in Portland, Maine and they're charging $75 for just the drill.

Curious how prices are elsewhere in the States.

Ouch. Looks like it is $65 at EVO now. Website says $35 if you buy both your skis and bindings at EVO. (Imagine being a salesperson and not being able to offer free mounts if people buy both skis and bindings) Hopefully people on here have someone they can tip with beer and get a better deal

A bit of a heart breaker story for me with a happy ending. I paid $65 for my (formerly) favorite ski shop to mount my skis. They completely botched the mount job on my brand new pow skis (crooked and screws not tightened all the way down, and they forgot to use glue). I decided from then on I would just mount my own skis so that I could spend the time and effort into making them perfect. Each mount jobs takes me about 2-3 hours because I'm so careful with measurements (I haven't bought a jig), but I bought the proper drill bit and wood glue for a total of like $40 and have mounted 4+ pairs of skis for family and friends. I highly recommend going that route if you have the time/patience!

A few years ago in reno/tahoe they were going for $75+. Not sure what they are now.

And that is the reason I bought a jigarex and mount my own skis now. Pays itself off after only a couple mounts.

In these threads people typically say shit like "you're stupid if you pay more than $40" but honestly I haven't seen it cost less than $60 or 75 in ages. That's fine with me as long as it's done well

50 bucks I think but the owner gives me and the homies discounts so it’s like 25 bucks (shoutout to LARSONS in Denver)

I work at an evo store in Whistler. We charge 50$ for a mount, or 25$ if you bought ski or binding from us. If you buy both, its free

15 pack of pbr goes too

60-70$ is outrageous. The states are crazy for this. i have never payed more then 30$ (300 NOK) for a mounting. most times for even less. Ski gear might be more expensive in Norway, but at least we have cheaper mounting!

I would typically pay about $35 a ski but I just paid a fucking stupid amount to get a pair mounted bc A Basin opens this weekend and the shop I get it for $35 at is closed until November 4th. If they mount em even a fucking millimeter off ima be pissed bc I just paid them $100 for a fucking mount job. I atleast expected to walk into the shop and have some wine n shit with em before they outright fuck me. Probably shoulda gone elsewhere but I needed to get some sleep before work and that was the closest shop. :(

Most I ever paid was 50 bones, but the local shop to me now is 45. Usually if you buy anything in the store you'll get the mount for free in my experience

60 bucks down here in NH at least at the shop that does it correctly…. What shop in Portland is charging 70?

$50 flat mount. Free if you buy 2\3 of ski, binding, boot.

Which shop?

I usually go to Oberson but I don’t remember what I pay

Austrian ski shop in west Montreal. Not as sick as Oberson, everything in there is very much for racers but the techs know what they're doing and it's a lot closer for me

Thanks might go check them out cause I got two pairs of skis to mount wets, and an old pair of Arvs

$70 for a mount in Morgantown, West Virginia

Middle of summer (dead szn), brought my own skis, bindings, and a boot to them, paid up front, told them I needed the skis done before finals week.

Fastforward almost 3 weeks, radio silence.

Called up the shop, my kit hadn't been touched yet.

Very nicely told them I was leaving the state in 3 days (as I informed them explicitly before), could either grab my stuff and a refund, or mounted skis in the next 72 hours.

Had them done the next afternoon.

I won't name and shame because they did a decent job, but I immediately ripped their dumbass shop sticker off my twigs. FOH, overpriced and behind schedule, no way in hell I'm repping you or coming back, which is a shame because I'm gonna need new boots fitted at some point. Oh well.

We charge $60 if you didn't buy anything from us, or $30 for one hardgood purchase then free for a full setup. Sometimes we get feedback that other shops in town charge only $40 or so but then also hear horror stories of messed up mounts, so ya get what ya pay for in that regard.

Granted, for locals, NSers, etc we'll just go by ear and hook em up.

I paid 40 at scheels and they did fine although there was only one person that knew what he was doing

Although I was uneasy giving it to the dude talking to me about where I wanted em mounted cuz I had a sticker at true center

What shop in Portland? If you’re mount Salomon/atomic products, I can mount them for a 12 pack

jig new from mfg, $100-150

Have you done this? I've contacted Look and Salomon to buy a jig to start my own personal shop but those mfg's refuse to sell privately and only sell to shops.

Get a jigarex. It's a life saver and you're only paying 40$ for every new binding you need a jig for instead of 100-150.

I love mine.

your buddy at skishop just orders them for you.

I have pretty much all major mfg jigs, but honestly here in europe they are more carefree about them

jigarex is decent, but feel most oem jigs are better.

Just paid $70 for a tech binding remount, which I'm a bit more understandable of given the extra labor to plug the existing holes and such. Pretty steep but it's an independent local shop in a tiny mountain town so...

$65-70 here

It’s $65 at evo a mile from me???

Yeah I think I paid $35 in Finland but I don’t think he checked anything. My brother in law had his bindings mounted at XXL for a similar price and they hadn’t teched anything. I had to do it all for him. They didn’t even touch forward pressure. I’ve always wondered if there’s an extra service I’m supposed to ask for.

xxl have always been the shitty factory outsale though. not too much soul in the store overall. just low prices and mid products. don't think the workers do their job properly either

Idk about gorham bike and ski man, I’ve been to the one in Waterville and they couldn’t (wouldn’t?) order me boot boards. Not really getting a reputable shop vibe. Ski Depot in Jay hooked me up

There are more shops in Whistler so pricing has to be competitive I guess.

I just dropped my new wets off today and they charged me $100, was lowkey salty. But it’s the only shop within reasonable driving distance (20 mins from my house instead of over 1:30). I think if you buy skis and bindings from them the price is $40-$45 .

Heard good things about rodgers in scarborough...anything in downtown portland is going to have inflated prices milking the people making 6 figures that'll pay retail for merch and hardgoods

never ever ever ever EVER use Xxl for ski related stuff especially mounts

but.. have you guys ever mounted stuff? if you want to you can do them SO FAST, skip the cleaning, just slap the ski, skip the pre-threading, just zooom them inn after you slap jig on and eyeball it.

you can also use lots of time, double check everything, go back and forth and measure measure measure so you get the jig within 1mm, precheck this, that, use tiny screwdriver to make sure hole is 100% clean, both vacum & beat ski to get stuff out,pre-thread metal topsheet for screw, make sure screw actually meets thread (you reverse it and feel it etc)

first mount takes 2-3 minutes, 2nd takes 15-30 minutes. pretty much no places uses 2nd method, you only do it when you mount your own shit.

ironicly the first method is plenty good, so how shops manage to fuck that up is interesting. that said I do run a business, and the amount of weird shit people are able to do is amazing. we have inspection sheets and preanalasys done for jobs, and yet we get cases where person 1 does something, checks marks its done + text, and then person 2 checks their work, verifies it etc.... then we find out neither person 1, nor 2 has actually done anything, and the work is not even started?! this is why airplanes fall out of the sky as well and weird shit happens.

we had a case here recently with monthly routines with 3 people involved, where maintenance work actually had not been done for YEARS. this is how you end up with the crazy mounts.

I told him to go to the guy who owned the freestyle-leaning store at the base of local resort (where I went) but he went to XXL instead. Idk why.

xxl sold me a look 14 binding for $1 in bargain bin, and dude was like.. and you get a free mount with that! I was like.. hmm I can mount my own shit, but free and $1 sure lets doit

front & rear heelpiece was different lengths apart on each ski..... so different forward pressure needed, and 4-5mm off the marks

so yeah even free isnt worth it, binding was lol deal though, and I sold that ski with a $300 profit
