Mounting myself.

hey guys. im looking to take my bindings off my really old skis, and put them onto my just kinda old skiis. can i do it myself? my 1260's have already been drilled...so would my new bindings just fit in the same holes? and if not...how do i mount myself?

also what tools do i need

any help is apreciated.
 
if the bindings have the same mounting pattern that matches the holes on the skis then yeah you COULD just screw them into those, but i wouldn't reccomend it. To mount skis yourself you'd need the proper jig which run like a couple hundos, your best bet is to bite the bullet and take it to the shop for a 10 dollar mounting
 
haha ya ok. sounds like ur using these skis for uran/beater purposes. u just need to drill all the holes to the same length
 
well this is common sense, if the pattern for the pre-drilled holes match ur binding patter then yes young one it will fit
 
dont mount into the old holes even if it fits, because the bindings will rip out really easily.
 
but the holes wont hold the screws as well and they will most likely rip out. it happened to me and it sucks. heli-coil the holes for a better hold on the screws
 
yes but all he said was his 1260 have been drilled. he never said they were mounted, so the holes are new
 
they have been mounted. i just took those bindings off and put them on my ar5's. (yeah, im cheap)

10 bucks? what kind of deals have you guys been getting? costs me like 40 for remount.

and yeah, tmorry. i laughed as i typed that title in.
 
all you need are binding drill bits, plugs, epoxy, and a pozi screwdriver bit. It sounds like you don't have these tools, so you could either spend 40 bucks buying the tools, or pay your shop. nice thread title, by the way.
 
I have used old pattern holes with no problems and I put my shit to the test. If the screw slips when its fully in, you may want to have the remount done professionally(helicoil or new holes altogether), or just screw it and put in a little epoxy. One or two slipping screws shouldn't be a problem, anymore then that and you should go to a shop.
 
i remounted mine and in two of the holes the screw kinda spins when all the way drilled in but there is still pressure on it. i just left it alone...two should be ok even if it is kinda loose. if the skis dont matter just use ur head and give it a try.
 
I've done that kind of stuff before but usually screw it up. Haven't you made friends with the tech. at the ski shop? They shouldn't bleed you for mounting binders. Even if the holes line up and the screws fit and cinch down tight you will need/want the bindings set for your boots. DIN is important but forward pressure is really important! Be kind to your legs
 
Don't listen to these people. Mounting in existing holes is perfectly fine as long as the ski has been kept dry. I put new Salomons back on my old Skogens that were already drilled for Salomon for the same boot and rode them hard in the park only. The skis fell apart but bindings never ripped out. And this was on an old shitty pair of 176 Lines and I'm 6'3, 185lbs. Just throw in a bit of wood glue and screw them pretty much as tight as you can by hand, being carefull not to strip the holes by tightening unevely or overtightening. I work in a shop and have done this for many customer's skis, so don't worry.
 
if you make yourself a cardboard stencil and have a power drill and you really dont give a flying fuck about your skis, then you are golden.
 
its very risky, some kid on hear posted a while ago he tried it and almost went right thru the ski.

My suggestion would be if you have a drill press, and set the drill to go down a very very very little amount, and if the screws are to big, jsut keep drilling GRADUALLY.

But you probably dont have a drill press, so i owuld go with paying the money
 
hahah DO NOT DO THIS!!!! honestly that is a terrible idea. i'm glad it worked out for u , but this is a TERRIBLE idea. just take them to a shop and get them mounted there.
 
If you take them to a shop, they will just screw them into the old holes with glue, trust me.
 
I've mounted my urban skis by myself before.

First I took the bindings and measured them both so they were center mounted.

Once I had that poked a sharpie through where the screw goes and theres was the point where I had to dril to put the screw in.

Then I just used a drill press at my woodshop to drill em all and then mounted the skis myself. Its easy but you have to be very accurate to get it right. My friend did it and one binding is about 1cm ahead of the other which doesnt make a difference but I had my regular skis mounted by a shop.
 
and oh yeah, if your gonna drill new holes make sure you epoxy the old ones so no water damage gets in ur ski. And if the wholes match then the shop is just gonna put them in the same holes.
 
yea yea, seriously just tape off a drill bit and get it done. its not hard and really not that dangerous. measure, mark off and be careful. ull be fine
 
it can be done if you procede with caution. my dad and me put some new bindings on his old skis and if to measure good so they are centered and you are sure you have the spot in the right spot before you drill you're good. also put a piece of tape on the drill bit that makes it shorter than the thickness of the ski so you know how far to go before you go through
