Mounting center vs. conventional

I picked up a pair of 2015 Blizzard Regulators the other day which seem to be a nice, fun ski that can actually hold an edge. The last pair of skis I had were '08 Atomic Twins (an all-mountain twin tip) and I really loved how these felt so I wanted to get another all-mountain twin.

I love the way I can ski on center mounted skis but I am not sure how the Blizzards are built. The recommended mounting position is 7 cm behind true center. Does Blizzard build the ski around the intention of mounting it traditionally or can I get away with a center mount?

You will get the best skiing ski if you use the recommended mounting point as it is set for what the camber profile is:) That being said it will not be crap to ski with a center mount..

It kind of depends how much park you'll be riding i guess. I ride AR7s and they are recommended at -2 or something but i have them true center and love it.

dude don't fuck with blizzards they are amazing skis. Mount them at recommendation otherwise pick up another pair. They will rip super hard.

I did a bit of measuring...

There is absolutely no difference in waist between true center and the recommended line.

The flex of the ski seems incredibly even whether it is pressed at the center line or the recommended line. It seems to require a little less force at the recommended line though.

The distance between the point that the ski touches the ground (due to the rocker) at the tip and true center and the point at the tail and true center are exactly the same.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts on this. The ski is built to ski backwards very well and is not a forward pressure ski at all so I just don't see the need to mount so far back.

Does anyone own these skies that can provide feedback?

Mounting point also has to do with how you want to use these skis. Farther off center, the heavier the ski will feel when you try to initiate a spin.

I think I am going with somewhere in between the two markings. I'd hate to mess them up with a total center mounting if they're not made for it although from what I can tell they wouldn't be. I may go with +3 or +4 from the recommended line.

Bump...

So I went at +3.5 from the 0 line for my mount. Any thoughts on this? I went for the 186 so had a little more room to hang out the tail. Didn't want a center mount but something slightly back from it. So hopefully they work well at this spot

If the ski was designed to be mounted at 7 back, I wouldn't have gone any more forward than 4 back. 3.5 will still work fine and you'll have a great time on them, but there's a lot more to consider than just the dimensions / flex of the ski.

Either way, they'll still ski fine, but I tend to try and get people away from mounting dead center unless it's a fully symmetrical ski. Even on a ski that's designed for -2, it's going to ski slightly better mounted at -2 and you'll hardly notice a difference (even in the park!).

Let us know how they work out!

I'm not arguing i 100% agree with you. I just prefer a ski a little more towards center but not actually center mounted. I never mount center for the reason you described. 186 is a pretty large ski so I personally didn't want a shitload of nose and a little bit of tail. I read some reviews that said +2.5-3.5 was a great all mtn mounting point geared towards someone who wants a bit more of a new school feel. Hope they work out or I can remount them I guess
