is anyone else into freeriding? im looking at getting a new bike and im tring to decide weather to get the kons stinky or the GT ruckus i-drive 7 2.0. got any suggestions? i think they have pretty much the same components and suspension and everything, but im not sure whitch is a better bike. im looking to spend between 1500 and 2000

Charrparels are usually 3000+ ot at least at our shop. i go with a stink, very reliable, good, freerides bikes.

Kona's actually have a linkage single pivot, so they still have all the brake jack problems of single pivots. A good option for you would be to hit up www.pinkbike.com and check out the buy/sell for used big hits, theres tons of them out there, and they're good introductory dualies.

I have a devinci 8-flat-8 and its the pimpest shit ever...love freeriding, but trying my first dh comp this weekend just to see my level compared to those guys

Words, brake jack opwns you , the reason i sold my stinky. There great for freeriding and stuff but racing them sucks and there not very fast .

If you will only be doing shuttle stuff, a stinky will work for you because it sucks pedaling a Kona. they also have the one above the stinky i think...the stab? i dont know, i dont fuck with full suspension.

some will flame for saying this, but if i were you, and i were just getting into it, i would look into a freeride hardtail...for around $1200. Look at a Transition Vagrant, or build a p.2 like this...

you get a bike with alot less to worry about mechanicly, and the hard tail will make you a better rider, so when you do start to race, you can hop on a fully and ride smoother than ever.

yeah but i already have a nike thats better than a p2. i want to get a freeride dual suspension because i love the way they feel. i did alot of research last night and i narrowed it down to 3 bikes: kona stinky, specialized bighit FSRII, or the iron horse 7 point 3.

www.pinkbike.com is an alright site, although I find that people there tend to believe that whatever they ride is the best, so sometimes you can't get a straight answer. Another good option would be www.mtbr.com in the downhill/freeride forum, they have TONS of knowledgable people there.

not my bike...

while it would throw off the geometry for pedaling around, it would make for a sweet dh/fr hardtail. personally, i wouldnt have gone that long, but as long as the frame can handle it, to each their own.

oh, and i almost forgot about the santa cruz V10...this is their best freeride bike:

OOOOOOOO...SO PRETTY!

Santa Cruz kicks ass. I have a Heckler. It's not the most extreme freeride bike, but I can hit drops and stuff and still ride cross country on the same bike. And I would definitely recommend full suspension.

i was in this position a while ago.. but then a deal came up and i ended up wiht a cannondale scalpel aka hardcore xc racer. so im kinda thrashing around an xc bike like i would a freeride. anyone wanna sick setup for doing some uphill pedaling?
