Mountain biking question

Rear suspension, no, it is not necessary. In some cases it helps, in others it doesn't. For DH and Freeride I would HIGHLY recommend having a fully suspended long travel bike. For XC it is nice and same for All Mtn. For Dirt Jumping and urban riding, it is better to have a hardtail (no rear suspension). It's really all preference. I prefer a shorter travel fully suspended DJ bike over a hardtail like a P. Bike.

dude if you can geet em do it

i have a hard tail kona stuff right now

i do down hill at silverstar and its rough so ya its real nice but for street its not really needed

he pretty much had it spot on, you don't need an fs bike, they ride better on bumpy trails and for dh but they're by no means required for trail riding. i have a full suspension xc bike and a hardtail singlespeed, hardtails are more efficient but you get bounced around a lot more on them, especially aluminum hardtails. if your back get jostled easily or something then go with either an fs bike or ride titanium or steel to get more givei personally like the bounce of aluminum to hop around corners but some people hate iti much prefer full suspension but it's your call, start out with a hardtail because they're cheaper and then take it from there

i have a hardtail and its good for XC. id only use a full suspension bike for XC if i had a rear shock that can fully lock out because i hate going biking uphill with rear suspension. it feels twice as hard

hard tail (front suspension) - urban, dirtjumping, xc

full suspension - dh, freeride

if youre biking park and dj's and want something light, you can also get a rigid fork

depends what kinda riding your doing, if ur dirt jumping or cross country no its not, but i do cross country wit full suspension.. obviously downhill or lift usage riding u will want full suspension... it just depends how smooth u want ur ride to b and how much commitment and money ur willing to put into it...
