Mount Lemmon Ski Valley? Decent?

Hey guys,

I'm a college student living in Golden, Colorado who is transferring to the University of Arizona in Tucson this spring..... I know, sounds like I'm commiting ski suicide, right? Well I've had three+ years of skiing 70+ day seasons at the best resorts in North America, Vail, Aspen, Snowbird, Alta, Jackson, Whistler, you name it.... and now I need to remove myself a bit from skiing so I can finally get my shit together and graduate.... Anyways I was wondering if any Arizona skiers knew much about Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley outside Tucson? They don't seem to have a website..... I called their snow 'hotline' though, really funny recording, talkin about their famous chili and stuff.... but more importantly they said they just got 19" of pow! Damn! This is Tucson we are talking about! Any BC potential around there I wonder? I've been there in the summer many times and it actually looks pretty decent....

Stay Steazy,

Phil.

i think they open like once or twice a year when it snows enough for a day or two before it melts. i don't know about backcountry, i dont really think the snow ever builds up on mt lemmon

Yeah, they are rarely open and the hill is extremely small, if you're looking for a place to ski while in AZ, consider Sunrise or Snowbowl- those are going to be your best bets.

mt lemmon sucks ass but it does stay open for the whole season more or less, it just has to close periodically. but arizona snowbowl is the best ski resort in az IMO, a lot of people like sunrise but thats really more of a boarder's resort
