Mount Baker In January?

1. I have already used the search bar and google Im planning a trip for my dad and i to go skiing. Im surprising him by buying his airline ticket there. I was surprised by how cheap i actually found airline tickets to be. But i started to read reviews and i know Its La Nina and everything, but does it really rain as much as everyone says? iv heard that a lot lately, give me some slack... i live on the east coast and i don't know if its going to be worth going mid January. The terrain looks absolutely amazing so it would be a shame if the whole trip would be composed of rain. Mature Responses please.

i went to baker last january with talks of the biggest storm of the season: in fact, it was going to be a record storm and we were going to receive 100+ inches in the five days we were there (well slightly less since we checked the snow report for mt baker, not the mt baker ski area). anyway, we arrived to a foot of heavy wet snow, followed by a week of heavy heavy rain. the temperature was just slightly too warm for snow and we only got rain. super super disappointing but it coulda been epic.

looks like they are getting pounded now, another 100+ inche storm potentially

thanks^ i guess i could assume that the weather is going to be either a hit or a miss? looks like im not going to know what happens until we are there.

Washington can be either killer pow or a drizzling plastic bag wearing disaster. If you want guaranteed good weather (bluebird or pow) go to Colorado because at least rain won't even be an option. When I lived there I didn't use my windshield wipers once for rain from October to April. In Washington you use them all year round...

I also am going up in jan...well late jan early feb. From what i hear hit or miss is best to describe it...

the last three years january has been a drought. theres no way to know right now, you could get epic dumpage, or epic rain or no snow at all. the shitty part about washington is that our snow is so heavy when it gets skied out its becomes cascade concrete which is no fun.

if you come here and its raining go to whistler. its only a couple hours from bellingham

Nope, it will rain. See it wasn't always like this, but with global warming, our low elevation ski areas are just not high enough to catch the good snow.

There's a reason everyone goes to Colorado or Utah.

Okay haters. I'm being entirely serious. January is NOT the month to come. It's when our lovely Pineapple Express shows up. So.... pick another month, if you wanna ski the pow. Which we don't have anyway. More like.... sludge.
