Motorcycles are rad.. I just bought a Honda VTX 1800... it is a monster.. .it will whip ANY cruiser on the market (minus the v-rod) and it will even put a lot of sport bikes to shame.

Start out with a little dirt bike... like a 250 four stroke, or get a pussy little sport bike and cruise it around the neighborhood. After you get the hang of it, get a license. Or you can take motorcyle drving school.

We gonna whack it til the wheels fall off.

Start with a 96-97 CBR600 that's what I started on, it's one of the most forgiving bikes for new riders. I hadn't ridden anything except a dirt bike like 8 years ago, you'll do fine, but you will fall, everyone falls, it's just a matter of time. Plus that bike isnt worth much when you drop it you wont flip out about it dont go buy a dope bike for your first one, you'll regret it!

First: Take a class, most are through MSF (motorcycle safety foundation)

Second: Don't buy a Duc to learn on, they are super expensive to maintain ($1000 service every 5000 miles or so, oil change, valve adjust, all that stuff) Buy a unintimidating used motorcycle, learn and ride it for awhile then define your criteria for a bike and buy what you want.

Third: Be careful! Some people have the mindset to ride and some just never will. I know a guy who took the class, got a MotoGuzzi 750, then went for a ride with me and crashed in the first corner, not going very fast.

And no, it is not a given that you will go down learing to ride. I have ridden dirtbikes for many years, then switched to the street this spring. I have ridden about 3500 miles on the rode now and have had no issues. But my dad with about 100,000 in the saddle has been teaching me how to ride correctly and defensivly and that helps.

BTW: the people doing wheelstands down the interstate at triple digits just piss me off, cause they give motorcycling a bad rep and raise my insurrance rates. Loud pipes DONT save lives, there just annoying.

street bikes are death traps, you can walk up to any random person and i can almost guarenty someone in thier family has gotten hurt or killed on one of them, i'll stick to the dirt.

gangsta raps lyrics are all the same, Someone gets shot, someones frontin, someones a wangsta, someones benchpressin, someones makin fried chicken, and the beans dont burn on the grill. You can see that shit in kentucky. Fuck the bronx, deep south bitches-scientist

Dont get a ducati until you know you like bikes and you can ride great. My dad had a dudcati and he said it sucked b/c it was soooo uncomfortable!! He liked his suzuki much better he said. Most states will require a motorcyle type license, so you can learn to ride there.

if you download(ski movies) them your computer gets aids and buttfucks you

^Freeridinskier... i will dispute the "loud pipes" comment... They are sick... not annoying in the least, unless you are an old woman who naps 16 hours a day.

Whats the point of having a sick cruiser if it doesn't make some noise? it's a powerful machine... it better sound like one.

We gonna whack it til the wheels fall off.

haha buy a ducati to start and you'll be dead in a month. i wouldn't go over 500cc's as a starting bike. haha a 500 cc will blow any car to shit on the street, but is slow compared to other bikes. trust me 500cc's is all you need to get started, then work your way up. but don't get a big fast bike to learn on that's how you end up dead

there is a community college near my house and they have all kinds of classes like that, and they provide the bikes to ride, so if there are any community colleges around you, check them out

Yeah check this link for local training classes chances are theres one in your immediate area. http://www.msf-usa.org/

Don't start on a racebike, start on a low-end forgiving sport. Deezl (a ns member who rips on crotch rockets) helped me out with some advice this past summer when I was looking to get a bike. He recommended a Suzuki Sv-650S for a starting bike you won't get tired of. Yeah it's not sexy as a Ducati but you might live long enough to enjoy it. It has a V-twin as opposed to the Inline-4 of most Racers and has a much broader power curve for more reliable throttle, instead of a "spikey" curve that tends to do funny things to your bike. Don't worry it's plenty fast and has sport styling, I think they look pretty sweet pesonally.

It's your life live it however you want to, I decided to buy my ATV first and motorcycle next spring, I've been busting ass at work picking up extra shifts at work saving for one and it's gonna happen first thing next spring. Just use your head not your ego and buy a safe bike to learn on, preferably something you won't cry if you lay over. I'm gonna ride my Suzuki for a few years then upgrade to a RR assuming I last that long.

This is the Regualr Sv-650 the (s) model has lowered handlebars and a front ferring (sp?)

Bullshit, loud pipes save lives in the woods at least. My old ATV was so fucking loud (glass packed exhaust) and if you are blasting through thick woods on a skinny trail people will hear you coming and get out of your way, no bullshit about it. Also a kid who had the same ATV as me on a trail we always rode on was driving down the trail, a deer jumped out in front of it and he hit it and broke his neck and died, a loud pipe might have scared the deer away.

ya i have the sv650s model and its a great starting bike and plus it sounds awsome and hauls ass with an after market exhaust

I don't mind exhaust sound that goes with the performance. IE say an FMF pipe on a dirt bike, or a performance exhaust on a car. But putting something on just to be obnoxious is annoying. Just sticking a huge muffler on a rice burner does not sound good imo however a full stainless exhaust system complementing other performance mods is sweet. Also if you stand along side a road you really don't hear the exhaust until it has passed you making the loud pipes are safer thing pointless. "...the 1450 cc Road King has about 60 actual horsepower." Why do people feel they need to put an exhaust that is loud is hell on a slow bike? It doesn't make it fast. Just my opinions, I am not trying to argue with anyone.

^ sometimes performance exhaust can give you 5-10 extra horsepower. Why not add that to the 60hp? Mind you, you will have to make some carb adjustments for it. And performance USUALLY is louder.

As for learning, Ducatti is a bad idea. My Yamaha XJ600 was almost too touchy to learn on. As for the "everybody lays it down sometime" statement, I have put 3500 miles on my bike since I got it in June and haven't dropped it once. Moreover, I never owned any kind of atv or dirtbike. I just learned on this and took my time.

My friend on the other hand bought a GSXR600 for his first bike (not recomended). He went off the road his first week and trashed the plastics and shattered his collar bone.

Anyways, just ride with respect for whichever bike you get.

If it ain't pimp, don't bother.

MY friends told me they could hear me coming through the woods from a mile away on my old Atv. My new one is U.F.S approved and spark arrested and under 96 Db, but I have a competition end cap I can screw on to replace the more restrictive spark arrested one, incase someone needs me to spank them.

We pay our debt sometimes.

I would say that offroad in a forest is totally different, with how the sound reverberates through the trees. My friends and I all rode dirt bikes a lot till this year. Two of my friends had crf450's w/ a big gun exhaust system. I rode a ktm 450exc with factory exhaust and you could definetly hear us coming through the woods. But on the street when I am out for a ride and see a harley coming the opposite direction, I listen for it but I never hear the exhaust till it we pass each other.

As for performance, if a person just throws a loud exhaust on their machine, it doesn't necessarly give it more power. The jetting needs to be correct, plus more air needs to be fed to the engine, to compensate for the the amount of exhaust gas that increases with the more open system.

What ever, it does not matter, this conversation is pointless, people will still make there machines loud and people will bitch about them, thats the bottom line.

Motorcycling rocks, and I could care less what bike you are on, as long as you are out having a good time.

Junkhead im def going to agree with whoever said start with a 600cbr...perfect beginner bike Ducatis are more made for racing plus they are expensive and if you wreck it it's going to suck...trust me

I just can't stand arrogant poser's who tell me, "the only reason you don't ride a Harley is because you can't afford one." When the bikes i ride are in the same price range, sometimes more. I have heard many people say that, its rediculous.
