Mothership vs. Pistol

Hey. I hate people asking what skis to buy just as much as anyone......but I'm stuck, and need some serious help from people with experience on either ski, The Line Mothership, or the K2 Seth Pistol. The reviews section had nothing. Here is the deal.

I'm 5'6, 125 pounds. Very aggressive expert skier. I ski east coast but frequent Utah and Jay. I got some extra cash now, and want to get a fat ski, so I really can't decide between the 169cm Pistol or the 172cm Mothership. What it really comes down to is which would be better on the ice and hark pack? I wouldn't think the 3cm length difference wouldn't affect me that much. If anyone could shed some light and help me out I'd really appreciate it.

ive demoed the motherships and i liked them a lot but ive never tried the pistols

the motherships were holding up fine on the NY hardpack

i don't think either of those skis would be good for you especially if you're skiing on the east coast, neither of those skis will really offer you the versatility that you're probably looking for, i'd probably aim if i were you more to the pocket rocket or scratch bc's, they're a little more turny than both the mothership and pistol as well as torsionally stiffer, but still have the girth to float nice when you make it to utah

I have skied the seth pistol alot just never really on ice, ive skied it on hardpack though and it does just fine. For nice groomed snow it is one of the best groomer skis i have tried.

I got the 189 pistols and they rip. With touring binders and boots they are kinda a wash out on the groomed sh*t and suicide in the icy bumps. The only thing this setup is good for is deep facking pow. But I doubt you have AT binders and AT boots out east.

i ride the pistols and i really dont think they would be good in your situation i usually only bring them out on the bomber pow days...there death on ice and not good in the bumps....like the other guy *i know you were choosing between motherships and pistols* i think the scratch BC would be good for you, and i dont like the PRs i kinda look at them as a new school ski for a old school skier

 
I've got the 189 pistols and love them all over the mountain, but if most of your skiing is going to be ice and hard pack why do you want such a fatty. Also the 169 pistols will be way longer than the 172 motherships, because they measure the runnig surface on K2's. 189s=197 and the 179=182.

Why do your skis curve up on both ends?
 
No dought get the Pistol I have demo'd them lots, but when I demo'd the Eric Polard pro there was somthing wired about them, so if they are anything like the Motherships I wouldn't get them.

 
yeah i'd say lines def for EC, and i would also recommend the BC's over the lines for what you do

i treid the pistols and liked them alot, took a few runs to get used to them, but at the end of the day i liked em alot. they held well in hardpack and kicked ass in pow.

yea your're a fuking idiot, 189 pistols have a running surface of 164cm. If they were 189cm of running surface do you have any idea how tall they would stand? Almost 230cm tall.

moships are lighter, and i personally think thats really important, weight i mean, but it's really preference. you can't go wrong with those two skis. if all else fails, show the graphics to a few random people are see what is liked better. it's hard to argue against big boobies on a ski.

motherships have a solid piece core, pistols are wood chips and glue.
