Most pointless subject in school?

anyone who skis off the groomers should.

do you realize we've had 48 avalanche fatalities in north america just this season?

Physics. I mean Im not gonna be thinking about the normal force thats exerted on me while Im doing something. Its so pointless unless your going into a field that invloves it.

You are a fucking moron. How the hell did you get Scientology out of Psychology? It doesn't even make sense. Just because I believe in individuality, does not mean I hold any stock in cults. Especially not Scientology which is the exact opposite of what I believe in. Try thinking before posting again - it might make you seem smarter.

That is close to saying you bring your knowledge of thermodynamics with you to the hill when its cold out.

My point is its not necessary to study the subject to have a common knowledge of it. Sure, it took many people studying snow science to figure out exactly what causes avalanches, but you didn't personally have to learn the subject.

well religion is obviously first if you go to a religious school. But other than that I'd definitely say history, it's so irrelevant in the grand scheme of things

Is it really that horrible to learn how to be a better person? really? a waste of time?

Unless you're studying scientology religion is not a waste, even if you don't believe in it because it teaches you how to be a better person.

sorry to double post but added on to what i said above.... ..... unless its cooking where shes in her element

i personally think that people dicking around in the backcountry should have both the proper equipment and knowledge.

if you choose not to take an avalanche course, that's your choice.......stupid.....but your choice.

my original point was this thread creator is taking a geology class in school and thinks its pointless, but it is very easy to transfer that same knowledge into snow science applications. something very useful to those skiers who venture into the backcountry. thus giving an example of how to turn a seemingly pointless class into something a skier could enjoy learning about.

and i take it you've never dug a snowpit.

yes, religion is a complete and total waste of time. and you can't learn to be a better person, you can become conditioned because of all the bullshit and act the way people want you to, or you can realize that religion is nothing but manipulation and outdated freethought.....believe me, ive gone to catholic school for the last 12 years and the only good thing I got from religion class was learning to not be a big enough tool to fall for their propaganda.

raquet-net sports. and you'd be suprised what qualifies as a raquet-net sport. also, child psych is pretty pointless. its basically about having babies...in gross detail. from conception to adulthood. the plus side is that we have a preschool and get to play with some pretty cool kids.

the thing about life is, you never know where it will take you, and what you will need to know. people need to realize that they are not just constantly preparing themselves for the next step. if you only prepare yourself to do one thing, then what the hell will you do when you get tired of it? have an open mind, lean things that you don't think you will ever use. they might come in more helpful then you think. live your life. dont just prepare yourself to die in a prepaid grave.

I agree, except i think it's more than well rounded.

Some are saying English, science, math, social... everything taught in school has a higher purpose than what's on the surface. You'll learn that all later when you finally realize they all interconnect later in life. I'm not saying every specific topic is important, I'm just saying every class you take has something that at least you'll remember, and that is useful in life.

well said.

Someone earlier said that Einstein was intelligent but not well rounded. On the contrary Einstein was very "well rounded". A philosopher, poet, deeply religious, and a politician.

A very wise man told me that to learn one new thing every day is to invest in yourself.

wow he went so far over your head. scientologists hate psychology/psychiatry. thats the reference.

sorry to be a dick, but next time try thinking before posting

If your going in the backcountry, you should have the knowledge necisssary to make a complete rescue in the worst possible situation. Not only for yourself/friends, but for others out there as well.

the only truly pointless class I've ever taken was communications when I was in high school. We had to give speeches in front of the class every couple weeks. I didn't have any anxiety about speaking in front of the class so I didn't really learn anything useful because the "tips" she gave us about speaking in front of a class were painfully obvious. Thins like "don't say um" and "don't fidget"

Any class is going to be useful in your life even if all it does is make you understand another reference on Family Guy. One of my friends is completely clueless of the world around him and I just can't imagine being like that. Its hard to have a real conversation with him because the only reference to pop culture, classic literature, or whatever he understands are things you would expect the girls on Sweet 16 to understand.

same here.

my health teacher is a huge hardcore softball player and also a huge dyke.

the entire class she talks about her GNARLY softball injuries, and how she has 81 pairs of tennis shoes, and yes that number is correct as of wednesday. plus i mean she hates every guy there is, and girls get fucking automatic A's in there. then we take hard ass tests on shit we have never learned, at least i only have it sophomore year...

law enforcement you watch high speed chases all day then listen to how cops really like them they just act mad

noo i'm pretty sure with my BA i can do a lot of shit in tourism, marketing, advertisement, hospitality, accounting etc. apparently you took the retarded version. my brother also has his BA and is making 80g's his first year working on the corporate marketing team at ibm so suck it. you can do a lot more with a BA then the TWO things you said. your a douche.

can you ask your brother why IBM's motto used to be "think" and now its "stop thinking, start doing".....cause thats kinda funny or maybe just ironic.

also if you make $80k your first year out, you can't count your school expenses as deductibles on your taxes for that year. lame.

English - read the Empire website and then you will realize why grammer is important. Reading is entertaining and allows for one to learn

Math - pretty much every proffession involves a little bit of math. Complex stuff is important, but less frequently.

Social Studies - History repeats itself, if know one knew about the Holocaust, then what would stop another one from happening?

Science - quenches our curiousity, but is not necesserary if your not in that field

Pretty much everything is important so you can be an educated and well-rounded individual. Societies in which education is valued, succeed.

Now phys ed and whatever other sport you play is worthless (unless your having fun while doing it like skiing)

...until you go to Argentina to ski on your vacation and realize that you can't do shit there because you can't understand them. I think foreign language is one of the the most important and useful things you can learn in school.

My school has a Career and Life Planning class that is required for all freshman. I down rigtht refused to take it.

I've never had to take geology, but I think biology was pretty pointless unless I'm going to be in the sciences (which Im not). and I still think that you participate in a varsity sport, you shouldn't have to take a gym class atleast for that marking period

no way dude. foreign languages are gonna become more and more important. especially spanish and french for us US and Canadian people.

yea ill ask him, that is pretty funny, i didnt know that.. and as for the tax shit, that sucks and that is fuckin lame. tax evasion?

at my school if you are even on jv on a team it counts as a p.e. credit so you never have to take p.e. if you play on the right teams

I don't think any of its useless really, I mean when else in life do you get to learn new things for free for eight hours a day?

Sure some is mundane and force-fed, often presented by pricks and low-lifes, but as I see it, when I'm out of college and in the work force full-time, I will be sad I don't have such good opprotunities to learn something, anything really. Everything you learn helps no matter what, in one way or another.

Now one subject I have a problem with is history. It never really struck me as an honest course, as it always makes the US seem like the best country in the world. I mean obviously, since its being taught in a school funded by the government, so it would be intended to make you appreciate and respect the government, but text books are just plain screwed up. For example, remember how in 2nd grade you learned how awesome Christopher Colombus was? And how every year after that he turned into more and mroe of a douche bag, bringing disease, enslaving natives, raping and pillaging et cetera et cetera. I can't imagine how much fo our own government's secret dealings are hidden from us. It's important to understand the past, but I don't think we achieve any level of understanding with high school history.

i couldn't find a way around it, so i'm getting bent over. maybe i should've taken some accounting or tax code classes.

and mothaeast i take it columbus day is less and less exciting each year?
