Sorry I know I've posted like 3 threads in 3 days, but whatever, I barely ever make threads.

Anyway give this a listen. Many questions will be answered and a lot of hate will be explained. Props to Rusko for this one.

Did you watch the video? It talks about the formation of Brostep, which is a word created to describe the music most of us know as Dubstep. The Excision, Flux Pavilion, Rusko, Skrillex, etc... sound.

I'll be the first to admit that when I first listened to dubstep, I was all about the bangers. Couldn't get enough rusko. Cookie monsta was the shit to me. I didn't even know the other world of "real dubstep" existed.

I'm kind of regretting making this thread, because I realize that without my perspective, this video would be a completely meaningless little snippet of conversation, but the fact that Rusko is talking about how he started the brostep sound and is starting to hate it himself kinda speaks volumes.

Again, not sure what I meant to accomplish (oops) but anyway, it is a pretty interesting video if anyone up there is starting to get sick of the brostep sound like most people I know are...

real dubstep isn't real dubstep

real dubstep is dub

and dub is reggae

so real dubstep is reggae

and post your 'real dubstep' so i can have some kind of idea of what you're talking about

Sorry it was in quotes because I meant "real dubstep" as in the ironic use of the term used by most haters, basically the old school skream, benga, etc... sound. I'm sorry this thread was really not appropriate for this forum. Def. regretting posting it, especially with that title...

So you're saying... this is why you don't make many threads?

As far as the video though, I totally agree. I laughed at the image of a bunch of guys taking their shirts off and raging to some hard brostep. It's a bit ridiculous I think.

Ok word. As far as your post goes, I am a little confused, since dubstep is dubstep. Its based on dub reggae, but I'm pretty sure no reggae was ever called dubstep, since dubstep is 2 step/garage.

Anyway, here are some tracks. A bit different from a Skrillex tune...

Not to even say that that stuff is bad (all the time) but I'm hoping to make some people realize why some of us get frustrated when people come out saying Deadmau5 and Skrillex make the best dubstep evar!

let people listen to what they want, no one has the right to complain about what music someone else likes

wow i could of spent that time studying for my physics diploma. Maybe i shouldn't take thread titles so seriously....

Srill works in fany editor. Here is some stuff I am talking about. Dark brooding melodies. Hard hitting bass lines. Oh and to the person above that asked why I don't usually make threads its because I usually half ass them and give up halfway through, and nothing is accomplished.

FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
OK this shit officially fails. And yes, person above, I do let people listen to what they want to. This thread wasn't meant to be a hate thread. I found that radio clip brought an anti hate message in fact. It was humbling to me, because I have been VERY guilty of unsolicited hate the last few months, especially regarding music.
This video helped me kind of realize where that sound came from and especially hearing what Rusko had to say about it was really interesting. I wouldn't have expected those words to come out of his mouth.
It is after all just music. I'm hoping those who listened to that video got a bit better perspective either way. Those of us that kind of hate on brostep hopefully figure out there is nothing wrong with it, it is just a different direction of dubstep that got a little out of hand, and we should let the bros have their fun.
And those who only listen to brostep, I would encourage you all to go dig a bit deeper and I think you will find there is some stuff out there that will blow your mind as much as a banger, without hurting your ears. And also understand where some of us are coming from if we get a little riled up. Its not your fault.
Bottom line, which I finally after all these posts decided on, is music should bring us together, not tear us apart. So I humbly apologize to anyone I may have offended on this site as a result of my music bashing. i hope you can forgive me. Music is about the feeling you get when you hear it. If that positive feeling is gotten through listening to Ke$ha or Skrillex, or whatever, it is no one elses place to tell you otherwise.
Its like when a vegetarian trys to tell me I should enjoy food other than meat more. I hate that shit. Steak makes me feel really really good inside, and I'll be damned if anyone is going to put down my preferred genre of food!

i kinda agree, i am getting sick of all this dub that no longer has bass or anythign besides some fucking synth voice going yuuuck yuuuuuck yuuuuuuup

phaeleh is def. sick. I'm into a lot of the super dark stuff. Check out:Breakage, Distance, Skream, Benga, Antiserum, Eskmo, DJG, Joker, Kryptic Minds, Digital Myztiks, Hatcha, Mount Kimbie, Loefah, Emalkay (some)
I am still working on building up my collection of this sort of stuff. It took me a while to see the light (in the darkness)
Also I would highly suggest everyone check through this thread on DSF. There is some amazing stuff posted in there by people who have been listening to dubstep way longer than me.http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=167366&start=20

hahaha that vid is so true. half of dubstep fans are bros like that and other half just legitmitately enjoy that genre of music

im 100% serious this kid in my grade sent me a youtube link said check out this sick dub, only had a snare and some really shitty synths

haha wow

because i listen to a lot of bassnectar and datsik

especially stuff like datsik there's a lot of mid/trebly stuff but if you have decent speakers you can tell there's a loooooot of bass

Yeah dude, tis true. The focus is on the mid ranges. They crazy ass sounds. There is a lot of shit that is bass driven and just sounds so sick. I love the drop in the middle of monstahs by antiserum and eskmo. It just this super low wub wub wub wub wub but it carries the song so well. Traditional dubstep is about dark bass and energy. Crazy drops came later.

Dude that is sick I need to check out that album.Feel free to turn this into a post *CHILL* dubstep thread. It will suck until embedding starts working again, but we can start!

"I kind of took it there but now everyone else has taken it too far. It's not heavy metal. It's not about playing the hardest hardest tracks for an hour and a half. That's like screaming in your face for an hour. You don't want that. A lot of dubstep fans come because they want to hear the most disgusting, hard, dirty, distorted music possible. That's not what it's about." -Rusko

This is from the video. So glad he said it. I hope the mass crowds of 13-18 year old fad-prone boys and girls take note of this.

Here's some quality music.

iTaL TeK - Cycical

Dubstep. Clean and simple. Not wobbly or huge drops, but simple and easy to listen to. Good chill music.
http://www.mediafire.com/?2zmcyneydjr

Informant - Signal EP

Dubstep, moves into a more progressive house area in some of the songs, but dubstep all around. Bigger drops, has some wobbles, not a party EP, more of a quality listening album then anything.

SPC ECO - Silver Clouds EP

Shoegaze, good beats, ambient, the singer who appears in a few songs has a very airy quality to her voice, gives the album a very ethereal feel. I love it.
http://www.mediafire.com/?97bgzg02q4whq55

Aphex Twin - Selected ambient work 85-92

Ambient, as stated in the title of the album. Not complicated, no vocals, easy to listen to, I love this album.
http://www.mediafire.com/?0jdg91aetcy

Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Alatt Született

Complicated as fuck beats, awesome drops, can take a while to get into, not every song is a huge hitter. Not dubstep, more like Drums and bass without the bass.
http://www.mediafire.com/?kjivo0do0zn

Tyler, the Creator - Bastard

Rap, like Earl Sweatshirt, dark, good beats, the bass is huge in his songs, really creative production, great rapper.

http://www.mediafire.com/?a7a6xacaz5dri36

Earl Sweatshirt - Earl

Dark lyrics, dark beats, great rap.
http://www.mediafire.com/?nsu6srep33ssl8g

M83 - Saturday = Youth

Don't know how to describe, it's almost shoegaze with a more dubstep feel.
http://www.mediafire.com/?mj1dmmdz8gb

Distance - My Demons

Very very very chill dubstep. Not deep or dark at all.
http://www.mediafire.com/?th4jbo2ctnizf9j

Dalek - Absence

Rap. Damn good rapper, not very dark or creative, but he's great all the same.
http://www.mediafire.com/?ynmmctzkjzd

AWOL One & Ecid - Are...

Good rap, almost reminiscent of Jedi Mind tricks.
http://www.mediafire.com/?wmielzttyla

T.Shirt - The Tan-Face Children EP

Rapper, reminds me of a more talented KiD CuDi. His beats are basically dubstep, and this album is just fantastic.
http://www.mediafire.com/?5xwjmmw5zyz

The Coup - Genocide and Juice

Rap, old school, from 1994, still very good all the same.
http://www.mediafire.com/?mrkamzzvlkh

These are all albums I've listened to straight through at least once. I love them all, which is why I chose them. Enjoy.

Brostep:

Dubstep:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNStVlJWy88&feature=fvst

^Some purists would even say that one is too hard, but w/e

And Ninetales, that was a really really good list of some challenging music thanks!

I would also add:

Noisia - Split the atom

BT - This Binary Universe

Caribou - The Milk of Human Kindness

Prefuse 73 - One Word Extinguisher

Flying Lotus - Los Angeles

Eskmo - Eskmo

Exile - Radio

Baths - Cerulean

There is a lot more but thats a start. I really love what I call "challenging" music. Stuff like Venetian Snares, Aphex Twin,FlyLo, etc... That just leaves you wondering what just happened.

There is so much more to electronic music than dance music.

Bro step - kick kick kick then the bass drops and its all midrange womp womp womp noises its pretty striaght forward any Datsik song. In my opinion brostep doesn't really sound fluid. Brostep shows are fun though if you just wanna get out some anger and hear some sub on a big sound system.

Good dubstep in my opinion is like any other good music. Music that is layered with multiple sounds. The texture of good music you can't really isolate one noise it just sounds like one fluid beutiful sound.

Same with skiing, a choppy skethcy cork 9 is defintely not fluid while a nice sytle cork 9 looks fluiid and easy. ITs all about layering in music

I like your style. Bro step is def. fun don't get me wrong.

That ski analogy was on point too. Its like watching a dope park skier vs. a dope aerials skier.

Park skier: long run, fluid lines, gradually builds into bigger tricks, while keeping a ton of swagger. There is a definite focus on the whole run and not just one hit.

Aerials: Sort in run. All the focus is on one huge trick, where they do some crazy ass shit that doesn't make any sense. And then it is over and on to the next one.
