I guess I should have remembered that sarcasm doesn't translate over the internet. Every single skier is relevant to a constantly changing degree. Tomorrow's superstars are today's amateurs, and yesterday's immortal heros are today's jokes. No matter what, everyone is relevant to an extent. It's impossible to paint people with that kind of a brush.

its because guys have got the balls ( no pun intended) to send it harder and higher. they are willing to take more risks, and it is because ofthe testosterone. its not that females cannot be excellent skiers ( look at world cup racing) but when it comes to the freeride aspect of it they just are with us. its the same in mountain biking. the women rule in the xc but how may girls do you see sending super seats or backflips at rampage ,or crankworx, i have nothing against females in the sport and i think its awesome that so many girls to ski, but it is unfair and unrealistic to expect the same bag oif tricks to come from the women that are coming from the men

that's like saying that the number of fat (american) football players is enough to justify that football isn't a sport that takes a lot of superior athletic skill. You could argue this for any sport. I know a lot of professional skiers. And almost all of them are remarkably extraordinary athletes. They're those people that win every sport they try and could probably succeed in a number of professional sports. Skiing is a sport that doesn't take a lot of body mass (with the exception of racers and big mountain skiers), but it takes an incredible strength to weight ratio. You cannot have mental determination alone in skiing to make it to the top. The athletic ability MUST be there.

That said, Brad Holmes is pretty irrelevant.
 
No. But if you grow testicles, the level of testosterone in your body will rise. This will increase: muscle tone, strength and function; coordination; and competitive drive. These are all things that are very important to being an excellent skier.

I realize that you want women to be viewed as equal to men in all ways. That's very noble. Don't let your noble hopes blind you into thinking that it's true. Women are kicking ass at skiing. That is without question. But men still do have intrinsic advantages over women in the sport due to the way our bodies are built and the way our minds work. And those advantages become very obvious whenever you compare the level of competition among men and that among women at any event.

That doesn't make women any less important to the sport. But come on. Why does completely ignoring obvious physical fact have to be a part of having a fair view of the comparison between men and women in skiing?
 
Shanghai 6 was teeming with irrelevant pros: Travis Redd, Dan Marion, John Symms, Liam Downey, Craig Coker, Steele Spence, Matt Sterbenz, Luke Van Valin, Austin Ramalay (sp). You probably won't see anything memorable out of these skiers for the rest of their careers. I hope that some of them can stage a comeback, but as it stands, they're fading away.

i think theres alot of old pros who dont have movie parts or do contest, but still ski every day and kill it. and i feel like craig coker kills it and all he does is the level 1 movies

You can start to say that females are at a direct disadvantage in this sport, when the vast majority of pro skiers do not have a body mass akin to Mike O (I hate use myspace pictures, but fuck it)

There is no fucking way you can tell me that the reason he can throw a cab cork 5 is because he has a higher amount of testosterone than girls. I'm sorry. But park skiing involves coordination and style more than it involves large quadriceps in order for a strong pop.

Female skiing's inequality is due to a much deeper root than what chemicals are pumping through our bodies. I hate to use Kaya as an example, mostly because I respect her alot and also because she's like, the most obvious example, but that girl really does not have some huge lack of estrogen that makes her amazing. In fact, she's one of the most feminine skiers I've ever seen. The reason she's successful (aside from natural ability, and a handful of other character traits) is because she's fucking driven and doesn't let expectations keep her from sending it.

after reading some posts about girl skiers i have thought of something. i think we can all agree that girl skiers are not the ones pushing the sport. you dont see girl skiers doing things that no dude has ever done. thats no to say that they arent helping the sport by making it possibly for more girls to do it. but there really shouldnt be any arguement that girls are pushing it like guys.
 
i agree with laura in every way here, except for the fact she doesnt think chemicals play a role. Testosterone is one the advantages. Not for strength, but for the drive to make shit fly. Testosterone causes us to try and make things hurtle through the air without thinking of the consequences. as in trying to learn some new trick off a jump.

freestyle skiing has minimal connections with strength. why are there so many 6ft 150lb kids out there that destroy it. they are not strong in any way.

it is the fact that guys have been hucking there meat around since they were born and are 'culturally" expected to do so, along with that inborn drive to huck, stemming from our nuts producing testosterone.
