Most $$ freeskier in the world

NS!Who do do guys think is the most paid freeskier out there? And who should?

Norwegian FRI FLYT is running a story about sponsorship in their upcoming issue and it would be great to look into this topic.

No trolling.

Its probably one of the big guys that is like RB/Nike... or a european like Jon where their country really gets behind them.

A few years ago, I believe it was Jon Olsson (by a large margin), then Simon Dumont. Now, I'm not sure. I'd be willing to bet it is still Jon Olsson, but he works for it in different ways than other pros do.

As doug said, you're probably going to look at some of the dudes on red bull, nike, and to a lesser extent, oakley guys out there. Guys who have been in the game a little longer tend to be paid more than the younger kids even if you think the new kids are "better."

Another thing to consider is that sponsors often match (or more) contest payouts. So if you win $60K at Xgames, your energy drink sponsor may shoot you another $60K. So, despite contracts, contest results may have a large effect on who is making the most.

Freeskiers don't make shit by the way. There are a very, very few number of guys who break six figures. Most are making just enough money to get by.

I will say Jon

The NorthFace+ Scott+ Marker+ gopro+ Fulltilt Boots+ SkullCandy+ Verizon+ podiums + Natl TV ads+ filming= Tom Wallisch

Ya I actually was thinking the same thing, it just depends on what these companies make, all the dew tours and stuff he has to have a good fat stack in the bank

All the money is in pipe skiing though, tom even says so himself! i bet Torin and Simon both make more $$. However, as far as slope goes, I am sure Tom blows away the rest of the field by salary alone.

I would think bobby may be giving Tom a run as he has redbull, which are bigger then monster, and salomon which is bigger then Scott and full tilt. And under armour prob pay more then north face.

I'd say northface would likely pay him more than under armour. And i could see Salomon shelling out some serious cash, but Scott is HUGE as well. The big one for Tom is Verizon though. Also, Park City probably gives him something of a small fortune.

Under armour are huge compared to north face. Think of the money they make from all the other sports they are in. Verizon prob would make up a big chunk though yeah.

No way. Resorts which aren't under a conglomerate usually only make just enough to make a small profit and pay for the next year

Park City is currently under pwdr, and they have deeeep pockets. Have had some legal troubles as of late but still massive. I think you would be suprised by how much he likely gets paid as the top athlete for Park City. In itself probably not a huge salary, but definitely a hefty chunk of change.

I mean, some skiers who are sponsored by redbull get the same salary that tom gets from 2-3 of his sponsors, then not to mention the other large sponsors that skier may have. If you count contest winnings, tom might have been on the top last year, but this past season no.

Bobby B is the 3rd highest paid athlete on under-armor. plus he is sponsored by Microsoft with bing so the dude gets $$$

THALL must be up there? co-owner of armada, quite a few other sponsors despite being dropped by red bull last year ang all the ganja he grows and sells too

Jon is still probably better than everyone in this thread at park and racing, so I would definitely still count him in on this discussion.

I wonder who makes more, Jon or Bode Miller. I feel like Jon should be exempt from this question because he spends more time on GS skis than twins aka he's a racer who can do tricks, and racers make way more money.

I definitely think Jon is up there, since he's founded two successful companies and has signature clothing lines, plus regular sponsors.

Something has gotta pay for his cars, watches, house etc.

kind of. The north face is owned by VFC, which has a total anual revenue of almost 10x UA. not sure how that all affects athlete salaries and such though.

Dub post. But if it is The North Face making individual decisions about that stuff, then most likely you are very right and UA would shell out more money, at least to some of those bigger names. So you could be perfectly correct and ill admit i could be completely wrong.

My money is on Wally. He's always near the top of competitions, he's sponsored by some of the biggest ski companies like North Face, and he will make a lot off of his movie since he and Decker are really the only ones working on it.

I would put my money on TYW in about 5-10 years. The kid is super young, super talented, and very marketable.

This might be a bad question, but do Olympic teams pay athletes? Or will they this season? or do they just leave funds up to other sponsors/ only pay for training, etc.

how about that kid who drives daddys lambo all the time from that infamous skier fight video? i bet hes got some serious $$ as well

most people dont realize monster pays more then redbull because redbull does things like build parks and airbag jumps for their athletes
