Most disturbing things on the mountain?

Didn't see it but heard it was pretty awesome... paralympic guy's carbon fibre leg snapped off when he was going full tilt down the hill, ski took off down the mountain complete with his boot and this jagged white stump sticking out the top looking just like a ruined tibia... everyone on the lift thought this guys foot had just been torn off.

at snow summit I watched a gaper drop his snowboard and it slip away down the hill. it rapidly picked up speed until it stuck into someone who was sitting down. cleanly severing his hand which then was picked up by the board and swept down to where I was skiing. i jumped on it only to smash my face on the decapitated hand.

I saw a little girl, 8 or 9 hit the XL kicker at my local hill. its about a 40ft. she axidentaly did half a backflip and was really fucked up aftr that they brought her to the bottom and right into an ambulance.

I always cringe when I hear about stories of people becoming paralyzed, sort of puts the risk factor in place for me.

Watching people have seizures in the landing of a jump after destroying themselves, worst shit ever.

idk if all these upvotes are comforting or disheartening. One of the scariest things I've witnessed is a boarder scorpion-ing and seizing after landing on his neck via cannon rail. fuck.

A kid died at my mountain about a week ago that was pretty disturbing. But kinda on subject, Tanner Hall once said to me "The day you don't respect the mountain, is the day you die," Any death involved in skiing is always a big downer on the ski community, its a tough life we live I guess.

I call bs on this one.

A snowboarder broke his leg in the public park at west coast sessions a couple years ago. He over shot the third jump. I just remember him screaming in pain. It was awful.

there was a video a while ago of a snowboarder getting impaled by a rail doing a disastr or something. his skin was like sticking out of the end of the tube as if it was a cookie cutter, it was brutal.

2:25 Pretty sick vid watch a little bit

i saw a girl run in to the lift shack and totaly shut down the lift.

also a kid break both femurs on a rail. a girl loose her eyeball. a kid sent it to flat on a big air jump at brandywine. a drunk dude go through the lodge window. a snow board break someone's ankle

holy shit where do you ski? sounds like a god damn saw movie

Saw a gaper kid (race skis, skittle suit) eat shit on a whaletail feature, and land face first not moving. Someone called patrol, people blocked off the feature so nobody would land on him. I went over to see what happened, while yelling "don't move him, don't move him!" When I get up to him, he just sits up and acts like nothing even happened. Didn't know wether to be pissed that he just chilled and tricked everybody into thinking he died, or relieved that he was fine. Looking back on it, I'm relieved that he's ok.

Saw a snowboarder try to do up her binding on the lift ended up slipping and hanging onto the lift for a few seconds then she fell from about 30 feet to ice, breaking her femur and a few other bones. Also watched one of my friends crash and hit his head had to get airlifted off the mountain he ended up with just a concussion, but it was scary at the time not knowing the extent of his injury.

Being on park crew often you are the first to the scene of a crash. Ive found my self helping countless gapers who sent them self clear past the landings of my mountains jump line. most of them unconscious, most disturbing was helping a guy who spun is leg around after knuckling a 55 footer

Saw this video of ski crashes once and there was this poor guy that crashed on a dh race and his edge cut him across the stomach really badly, which lead to him dying.

I know chairlifts all have the correct safety features but sometimes when i'm on an old one i get the fear that it might have a rollback... better to not think about it

My dad used to be on ski patrol at Mammoth back in the day when no one wore helmets. This dude who had no idea what he was doing tommyd down some rocks and had to get helied out. My dad got in the helicopter with the dude and had the guys brains fall out in his lap.

Or that time I skied up on a couple banging in the woods at Squaw my second day in mighty mites.

Reminds me of something I saw in Cham a while back up at Le Brevent, so dude tommy'd over the rocks, his body was like completely still when he stopped. that was because his brains were a couple hundred metres above him strewn across the rocks. Not a good day.

yes so much... mountain creek, nj. So many goons that just bomb jumps and snap whatever they land on. We had a guy hit the snowmaking pipe and got insanely fucked up.

We have a helicopter pad with a helicopter parked there whenever the resort is open... oh and an urgent care in the parking lot.

Correction, mountain creek owns the helicopter and it stays there full time to heli people out. The urgent care at the bottom of the mountain is staffed full time when the mountain is open, and not by ski patrol (there is a separate group of employees/nurses that are there).

It's actually absurd how much the helicopter gets used, at least a few times every weekend. The presence of not only NYC dipshits but also the asian gapers that get driven in by the coach bus usually amounts in a shitload of injuries all the time. Last time I was there I saw a girl that completely blew out her knee (gaper coming off a knuckle and landing wrong), a boarder who broke ribs knuckling a really steep tranny and got knocked out, and some asian woman who skiied past the hill you stop at and into the lodge (idk what resulted but it looked bad).

not sure what you are correcting? but so basically it isn't actually mountain creek's helicopter. it is a separate healthcare company (atlantic healthcare i think) they set up that location as a landing area as a deal with mountain creek. Creek gets cheaper insurance and that helicopter gets a localized place to stay. They use it for more than just Mountain Creek. It responds as the sussex county medivac chopper.

Was riding up Six Shooter at Moonlight Basin. The conditions were terrible...lack of snow and just really crusty hardpack. Sure as shit, two skiers are hitting the headwall, with no snow just exposed rocks everywhere. I'm just watching this one homie thinking how the fuck did they end up in this position?!?! Dude is like 20ft away from like 15-20ft cliff with like no snow anywhere. As soon as he started going I knew he was fucked because he basically side slid off the cliff and fuckin rolled down the rest of the headwaters flipping over exposed rocks and cliff drops. It ruined my day sitting and watching that take place right in front of me.

Being a patrol/rescue out in the alps must be fuckin nuts, or maybe even more so in breck or somewhere with tons of gaps straight bombing. Anyone know of a good patrol mans read?

I'm local to the Alps and the amount of fucking gapers that have to get heli'd out of the backcountry is insane, and of course none of them carry avy gear or anything, they just all think they're Glen Plake or something

Just remembered over christmas break I was at Sunday River, and saw a helicopter land at the base of Jordan Bowl while in the liftline

sure enough when I was on the chair a patrol sled came down and the guy in it was fucked. His head was purple, probably from lack of o2 and they had a patroller kneeling on the sled doing CPR as they were hauling ass towards the heli. Not sure what happened to the guy but it was pretty crazy.

Sunday River is home to the most dangerous trail in the east, sunday punch. Claims way too many codes.

last year some guy hit granite peaks big jump pretty sure it was sixty feet but anyways he overshot it to flats landed on his head. he broke his skull and pretty much concaved his forehead. had a front row seat as the chairlift stopped moving and my chair was right next to the landing

Was at Park City waiting to hit the pipe when Sarah Burke passed away literally infront of me. Most scaring day ever

Yeah, except she died 9 days after the accident, in hospital.

Seen a few people take hard falls and get knocked out. Seriously hate seeing a fellow shredder's unmoving/responding tangled up body just lying there while patrol untangles the limbs and puts the homie on a flat board.

I feel as if it were a private session she was in at the time

2:25, overall this video is awesome, recommending watching the whole video despite its boarding.

that might be the most fucked thing I've ever seen

but the worst thing I've ever seen was this guy booking it down a steep trail, said guy decided to try and go mach potato right next to the snow makers lost control and smashed into one of the guns and got instantly knocked out. Ended up getting a life flight out but he regained consciousness on the slope and was screaming bloody murder. It was intense
