Most Common Ski Related Injuries?

My friends, and myself included seem to have been getting hurt a lot in the past year skiing..I was just wondering what the most common injuries were while skiing, and what injuries have you had?

skier's thumb shin bang (lol)

acl tears

Big 3 right there, and one of them is completely avoidable by simply not sucking at skiing.

falling onto an outstretched arm (i.e. using your arm to brace your fall) is prob the most common and you can get super unlucky like me lol. i had previous rotator cuff wear and tear from baseball, but i'm 90% sure when i fell superman position on a huge kicker at stratton when i was like 13/14, was the reason i actually tore my rotator cuff and had a SLAP tear.

I hurt my rotator cuff in the same way last week snowboarding. I was going pretty fast through a flat spot and wasn't paying much attention and I hit a patch of slush and caught a front edge right onto my outstretched arm.

Yeah, to me it seems as though snowboarders usually get the shoulder, and collarbone type injuries more often.

No... he was saying that you can hurt your rotator cuff by landing on an outstretched arm and I was confirming because I just had the same fall.

Snowboarding is worse for the upper body injuries but they're definitely still possible on skis.

being a ski patroller, the most common injury i see is torn acl's. these range from partial tears to full tears.for snowboarders the most common is the broken or fractured wrist.

we also do a lot of backboards, most are precautionary, but nonetheless are sometimes vital. we see a handful of concussions.

traction irons (broken femurs) are a rare occurrence. we can do 1-3 a year, and 3 is a lot.

ski patrol at smaller hill and see a lot of shoulder injuries (dislocation and clavicle breaks) and wrists (especially boarders). knees injuries to a lesser extent

I got a torn meniscus this year, and from previous years, I'd say anything knee related. Either that or broken ankles.

god i wish all i had was skiers thumb...dont complain about it if you have it... maybe you were about to blow your fucking ACL but then god decided to just fuck your thumb up instead.. be happy, but yah

ACL is definatley # 1 (miniscus too but lets all put it in the same category)

the rest arent as popular but id say dislocated shoulders

then maybe collar bone, i dont know

fuck acl's -_-

Same with me. Whenever I take some falls on my forearm and shoulder, my cuff always gives me a lot of pain. It's getting to the point where I can't throw balls or even raise my arm too fast without a lot of pain.

yeah man i actually ended up taking the surgery route because of baseball, so i found the best arthroscopic shoulder surgeon in the east coast for the surgery. low and behold the surgery is done and 5 years later i still can't throw a baseball without pain, but it doesn't hurt when i'm just moving it regularly. if you're having pain just moving it, i know my story isn't really comforting, but surgery really is your best option especially if it's bothering your every day life.

I've only just started park skiing in the past year or two. But before I started hitting the park I tore both my ACLs, had a couple of undiagnosed concussions, and sprained my AC joint. I'm what you call accident prone.

Mine hurts all the time I've almost broken it on several occasions. I know a few people who have had to have surgery on that ligament though- they couldn't even grip a piece of paper it was so bad.

BROKEN ANKLES! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

No, but pretty much what's already been said.

Its not too bad during the summer but I've definitely considered it on those winter mornings when it gets tough to put my arm in my jacket.

Forced Anal penetration from look/rossi "dildo" style heal pieces. if you have fks and have ever landed really back seat you know what I mean

when i broke my leg a few years back, before the pain had set in, i was really afraid that i blew out my knee (all i could feel was a warm tingling at the time). Was very relieved to learn it was just a minor tib fracture. I dislocated a shoulder last season, i know many people who have done the same, it seems pretty common in skiing. Hear about many broken wrists from snowboarder friends.

ACL tears.. broken ribs

concussions/ waking up in hospitals

stitches beyond counting, hit by skiers, hit by own skis crashing, blasted kneecap skin apart on rail

Snowrash? like roadrash, usually the warmer temps but this can suck pretty bad..

shin bang and cracked ribs. if your hips arnt purple by the end of the weekend then you are not going hard enough.

Dislocated my hip a couple years ago. My femur came right out of the socket, that fucking sucked but ive never heard of it happening to anyone else

I feel as though shoulder injuries are becoming more and more common as the sport progresses and people push themselves to new levels where we end up landing quite hard on our shoulders. This past season I have separated my left shoulder twice and cracked my right shoulder blade. These injuries aren't as noticed as big injuries like ACL tears due to the fact that the recovery time is much shorter where depending on how bad the injury was they could be back skiing within days...
