Yup I’m beating the dead horse fuck it. I’ve come to the conclusion that nobody on this website can really agree and unify on somebody we deem the greatest skier of all time. It’s time to end this nonsense
basketball most would say Jordan, football most would say Messi, tackle football most would say Brady, tennis Djokovic etc etc etc etc etc. everybody has their personal favorites and that’s absolutely fine, but can we finally just come together as free skiers and crown a goat ?
categories I thinks could/should be relevant in this discussion are
overall skill / well rounded skier
accolades/awards
total parts / screen time produced
style
exposure brought to sport
Feel free to add categories that you feel are relevant if u think of such. Now with that said I’m going to shoot a few takes which potentially will cause mass distress amongst this websites goblins, ski n00bs and dungeon dwellers……
Wallisch/henrik should not even be considered. Both great skiers who’ve done MASSIVELY good things for the sport, however, neither of these guys hav the skill to ski outside of a park in the way that guys like Sammy C or T Hall can. Again I’m not a twall/dollo hater, I just don’t think these are valid pics if we’re talking a true GOAT. Somebody that can ski anywhere and make it look like they own the place. Much love to both, i idolized Henrik in middle school and twall signed my yugi oh cards when I was like 7 at a level 1 shoot. Twall Also probably the most chill pro I’ve met, remembered me each time I met him and always was very cool to me. Humble ass dude fr
glen plake is also not a valid pic. (Sorry boomers) as much as glen did for the sport and as entertaining as he is to watch, his comparative skill just isn’t there with the current level. This is the equivalent of people saying wilt chamberlain is the goat of bball.
the two names on this site that I have seen thrown around are T Hall, and Candide. Both of these are absolutely valid pics and I think have reason for debate.
Ski Boss brought MAJOR exposure to skiing, has the medals to stake his claim, has IMO the best video part of all time (teddy bear crisis), pretty much pioneered early 2000s style, and has so much fucking GREAT footage that he still cranks out to this day in his older age. 2008 xgames superpipe vs dumont win was one of the best televised skiing events in history. and not to even mention the viral clip of chads gap undershoot being appreciated in pop culture as well as featured all over the Internet in its beautiful virality. On top of all that he’s absolutely fried which just makes his argument even stronger IMO. dude could literally ski any and all terrain like an absolute beast. cliffs,chutes,park/pipe,etc etc. only flaw in T halls career is his wack attempt at creating a reggae label.
