Mos-Def on Bill Maher

Seriously people, watch this. Everyone needs to see this. Mos Def is the best hip-hop artist alive today and his message is so fucking powerful. Its crazy how many different different Artists he has worked with over the years and his message is so well thought out. Fuck yea, Mos Def is so fucking inspiring.

i hate mos def.

I liked him for about a week until i realized that his best songs had beats and lyrics taken from other artists. I really started getting annoyed when people would sing mos def lyrics in school and i would assume it was another artist, and ask them questions like, "I didn't know you liked Tribe" and they are completely clueless, goin on about, "Mos Def is the best, most innovative UNDERGROUND hip-hop artist at the time. Fucking kids go back to your State Radio and Dispatch where you belong. if you really want to get into Hip-Hop, get to know everything, instead of one exploded guy that really isnt that amazing. Mos Def is a very intelligent person, and a pretty good actor, but for christ's sake stop slappiong on the vaseline and shooting your man jam all over Black on Both Sides. Open your eyes, and more suitably your ears, and delve a little deeper. Sure Mos Def is a place to start, but it's not a jackpot, so stop thinking you're all underground and stuff. And knowing Talib Kweli doesn't count either, because he was only good in Mood.

Mos def has worked with more artists than any other artist I know of. Seriously, go to a cd store and just about every other cd features mos def on at least one song. I dont know of any other artists who strive to work with as many other people as much as he has and that says alot. And also, I know he is not really underground now, but that is where he started. he grew up in the projects. Quit trying to downplay his success. Sure not every one of his songs is a hit, but thats not what matters in hip hop. what matters is that he is out there trying his hardest and spreading his message. You dont like him? Fine. There is no way I will ever know every single hip hop artist out there and I dont care to.

Seriously, it sounds like you are just hating him because he is popular.....

yeah i totally agree! mos def is such a reliable source ! he tells it how it is! YEAH!

alright mos def isnt underground, hes part of a genera i have self-dubbed "smart-rap" (as opposed to buy u a drankkk).

mos def samples and makes similar rhymes. guess what, they ALL do. you know how rap/hip hop was started? by a few guys that took EVERYTHING from other people. it was a collective effort. original DJ's made up versus and sayings that were either taken or willingly gave to other artists to use and eventually record. some of these guys youve never heard of, some of them got credit and you have. it isnt a huge lawsuit packed deal because these pioneers are just glad that their means of expression got out there, and are enjoying the masses instead of just a few blocks. it is the foundation of hip hop to do this.

i like mos def, i like kanye west. i like justin timberlake. why? because i dont care what people tell me about music. i dont care if he isnt unknown enough.

people often forget why they are listening to music in the first place-to be entertained. when you take all the other bullshit into account, you just end up fooling yourself.

aesop rock is on MTV now for a reason. his shit is good. it entertains. same thing happened with mos. that and his acting carrer (he went to NYU to act. before he rapped).

so when im walking to class listening to the jackson 5 or waiting for laundry to finish, listening to the new kanye on its release day from start to finish twice, i wont think twice about the things you said. because i enjoy my music for what it is.

that was retarted. He said that there was no alquaida? And there mad that people are racist towards blacks but there racist towards themselves. They talk about black people like their different from white people. He said how when the country is in a blue there gunna look to black people. If you don't want people to think of you as different don't act different. And they like Obama cuz hes black by the way which is racist.

Mos Def needs to mature and learn how to dress when he goes on a news talk show.

mos def makes pretty good music, hes an awesome actor, i have a ton of respect for the guy. hes great! but he has NO FUCKING ROOM TO BE ANY SORT OF POLITICAL INFLUENCE. whether or not i agree with what he said in those videos doesn't matter, he is a hip-hop artist...just because he has experience with lots of other famous people does not mean he has any sort of knowledge in government.

i could listen to the worst lyrics ever as long as the song was good. But if the song is bad i dont care if the lyrics are incredible, i cant enjoy it.

hey thread creater, suck a dick. the fact that you think mos def is a credible source and needs to be heard is absurd. and yeah i do put don the black man casue theyre both fucking dumbasses

Yeah i agree, i don't hate on other's people music, but if you listen to some of his songs, like Crime and Medicine, it is beat, sample, line for line like Liquid Swords by GZA. Also, Mr Nigger is almost work for word taken from Sucka Nigga by Tribe. I totally agree that he is a smart guy, and I repsect that, but I don't think hip-hop is his thing. Good for you if you like Justin Timberlake. If thats what gets you going, than listen. I won't hate on your music tastes if you won't encroach on my opinions. I like my music just like you, and I bet you could find some negative things to say about my tastes, whether you want to utter them or not. My main point is when kid's claim that they are all underground because they know Mos Def, who, yes, started as an underground artist, but worked his way up to being mroe well-known. I was hating on kids who DON'T know about sampling, DJ influence, rap roots, and everything, yet unlike with other genres, they claim they know mad hip-hop when they listen to Tru3 Magic. I guess it is all a start, but don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking on your music, I hate when people do that, and I agree with your views on this totally, but don't assume that me criticizing and artist means that I am knocking every Kanye track that you listen to. listen to Jackson 5 if you want, they were great in their day, so why shouldn't they be now? Nobody's watching you, so don't put yourself out there as a victim.

that's was the most generalized, inarticulate thing i've heard since i've talked with my old pal, Matt Keosian.

are you serious? this feels like an episode of chapelle's show. what a joke.

i've lost respect for mos def. when did he turn into such a black power type of guy.

Wtf are you talking about. So if you're doing a certain job or career, you can't criticize the government? How fucking dumb are you? He should be the one talking, the artist that has the courage to speak up. You're not the one speaking as I can see. Anyone can have any sort of political influence (as you say) but no one wants to. He does it, I don't care if he's a rapper, a cook, or a bus driver, only by doing it, he encourages people to do it too.

Man...you must not know a whole lot of artists if you think mos def has worked with more people then anyone you know.

Mos Def is pretty good, I will give him props. But he definitely aint the hardest workin man in the business

My sweet Jesus...

Honestly I try to be tolerant, I try to understand that just cause somebody doesn't feel the same way as me it doesn't mean they're wrong, but I honestly can't think of a better way to say how I feel about you than by simply saying "FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Do you know what the fuck democracy is????? Can you understand that rap isn't just for retards??? you clearly have no fucking idea how your government works seeing as you don't think he should be able to express how he feels about politics so I would say that if anything you're the one who's opinion doesn't matter and have no knowledge in government.

Go have fun with Hitler you shit.

Anyway's what I was going to post before I got more pissed off than I've been all month, Mos Def reminds me a lot of K'naan. Everyone should check out his album "the dusty foot philosopher"
