Mormons Gone Wild!

"plus I live downtown, not in pc where the mormon influence is much more dramatic"

Standard English, really, you're insinuating there's a bigger influence in PC than SLC in that sentence. Learn how to use a comma.

As far as beer and cigarettes go, you're correct in all your stats. But wait:

In pennsylvania you cannot buy beer at ANY convience store (including grocery stores), you have to buy it at a bar.

In Virginia and Maryland (only two I'm sure of) you can only buy beer until 12am, 1 hour sooner than Utah.

Also, did you know in Park City you can buy beer at 7-11 24 hours a day??? Find me another state that has THAT option.

My point is this, every state has it's own idiosyncrasies that we have to deal with regarding alcohal and cigarettes. Some are better than others. The only reason Utah's are made so public, is because of how fucking weird Mormons are. But when you take a look at the big picture, it's not bad at all.

And there are plenty of states (republican or democrat) where you have to be 21 to work at a gas station. Didn't know that was your chosen profession anyway.

And the reason Mexicans are moving here is because of how FUCKING CLOSE WE ARE TO MEXICO!!! Look at any state in the West (Arizona, Nevada, NM, Cali, Utah, Colorado) and tell me there isn't a HUGE Latino population. Live out East for a while you'll see the difference. What this has to do with stupid Moromns, I have no idea. Seems like you have an issue with minorities to me.

And as far as Utah being a Republican state, you're right, it is. And yes, most Mormons are Republican, this gives the church a ginormous tax break. My original point was that in the last 2 decades, we've made HUGE strides in changing the political platform in this state. Starting from schools, to council members, all the way to the Mayor's office. Nothing in politics happens overnight, my man, but it's getting, already is, better.

Your original statements are mis-leading as to what life is really like in Utah. This is a phenominal place to live. Unless your a single-minded person (which you seem to be) who cannot get over the fact that there is some weird, cult-ish religion based out of this state, when really, you can only find this "influence" if you go looking for it.

I dont know about that buddy. I've been to a plenty of places in PA that sell alcohol, gas station, conveinient stores, whatever. Not on sundays though.

^Not in Bucks county.

And, Chris420, what does age have to do with anything? Cause I might be younger than you that means my points are any less valid. I've got nothing against you, but if you want to argue, than make a point and don't be a tool.

that was completely fake. youll never see a guy and girl missionary knocking on doors together. its either two guys or two girls

shut the fuck up. your beliefs and shit are fine with me, but religion and politics stand no place together. im not saying they dont but religious crusading and religion in politics is fucking lame. just like you, your lame. mormons are very very lame.

^i agreee... they are very seperate.

it is hard to seperate them though because of their closely tied roots...however...morality is a really subjective issue..

but the law and religion are two completely different entities, at least they should be. personally i believe in john stuart mill's ideals about liberty. he understands this concept.

Those people were Jehova Witness's, not Mormons. And beer here is actually about 4.2%, plus you can buy bottled beer at the liquor store up to whatever beer goes up to.

hahaha make my night, it reminds me of the time when my dad kicked out the jahoba winesses from our house, see he's a religon teacher cause they told him that our friend who is Muslum will go to hell cause he didn't believe in Jesus. Even though they believe in the same God. So he got pissed off.

Ahem...

You my friend, are incorrect. I was a Mormon missionary in Argentina a few years ago. Mormon missionaries ONLY go out in same sex pairs. That is the 100% truth. That video was staged.. not even Jehova's Witnessed would drop the Eff Bomb on you for getting a couple of water balloons tossed at them. Come on, be real.

My next statement is this: if you do not like Mormons in Utah; no one is holding a gun to your head to make you stay. You may leave at any time.

Please don't complain about a place THAT YOU DIDN'T FOUND AFTER TREKKING OVER 1/3 OF THE WAY ACCROSS THE COUNTRY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINTER, WITH HALF OF YOUR FAMILY DYING ALONG THE WAY! Mormons founded this stated, Mormon miners founded the town of Alta, and built the road that goes up Little Cottonwood Canyon.

To those of you that are arguing about how stupid and ignorant and close minded Mormons are: your minds are already made up so you will believe what you want to believe, whether its the truth or not. It just comes down to this: live and let live.. if you move here and complain about how bad this place, then you may leave (that would be nice... less "glorified long term tourists" clogging up the mountains)

How would it be if i moved to Mexico, and started raising hell and saying "Ahhh this place sucks! Its so full of dirty Mexicans. You are all so poor and live in crappy shacks, and crap in a hole behind your house, and your government is whack, and your police force is corrupt, and your culture in general is just ridiculous"????? Do you see what i mean? Thats how you guys come off sounding, when you bitch and moan about trivial things like alcohol percentages in beer, and being able to smoke in restaurants.

P.S. I wonder what it would be like to move to, oh... say India, where the like, 98% of the people are hindu, and the proceed to call them retarded for not eating beef, and wearing a spot on their forehead, and complaining about how ridculous their beliefs are. Think that would go over well?

"my american civilization teacher told our class theres some old law in louisiana i believe, or some state around there i'm not sure, that says its legal to shoot a mormon. ofcourse this law is ancient and does not apply to today, but it makes you question why such a law was created in the first place."

BAHAHAHAHAHHA! About the same time as that law, it was 100% legal in the United States to OWN an African American as a slave. "but it makes you think, why was such a law created in the first place". Woohoohoohoo! Come on dude... get real please. That would be tremendous for all of us.

accually i was talking about the beer, i dont give two shits about mormons. O yeah and dont give me that we survived the winter and walked all this way bullshit. thats like a black person still complaining about slaves. O yeah and once mormons realize they they are "closed minded" like you said i was you will realized that that this is a difference between church and state

I fucking love making fun of intense christians though. just get them all riled up and say jesus was black or some shit an they go crazy.

You know what...before I moved here the thought dealing with a large Mormon population would be simple. I thought I would just stay quiet and mind my own business...

...I was wrong, and you know what, If SLC wasn't home of the "greatest snow on earth" I would get the hell out of here. Your right, no one is holding a gun to my head, but to suggest that the LDS church doesn't have a choke hold on nearly all aspects of the state is absurd. If you've never lived in Utah, it's an entire different world. The LDS church has a grip on the entire city you couldn't beleive. I cannot believe that there has not been gov't intervention with reguards to how the LDS church operates in this state.

Your trying to make it sound like the Mormons are just trying to mind their own business and that the "out-siders" are causing the trouble. I would consider myself a very open-minded, well traveled person, and SLC makes me want to scream. The Mormons in this state reguard themselves as a completely different race in a different country. The part of your response that reads "THAT YOU DIDN'T FOUND AFTER TREKKING..." exemplifies this point. You didn't trek 1/3 of the way across the country in the middle of the winter, and half of your family didn't die.

That is a rediculous arguement.

That is like me argueing that people shouldn't speak out against the United States because my family trekked all they way from Europe, many having died along the way. I would have to suggest that you follow some of your own advice and "live and let live..". These "glorified long term tourists" have just as much right as you to clog up the valley (and for that matter anywhere).

As for racism against the Mexican population, I see more of that coming from people who are native to Utah. But racism is a completely differnet issue.

1. They're not mormons so fuck all you bitches who are crying about being mean to mormons.

2. It was hilarious so just realize that and don't get liberal with me.

fake or not, those guys deserved to be water ballooned for waking people up all the time. if people wanted to become a part of their religion, they would. they dont need missionaries running the streets to find people to convert. thats just silllypoo

yah, they wren't attacking just because they don't agree in their beliefs. They're attacking because its funny, and they don't leave you alone.

and I know a mormon girl, and yes they do swear.

but those weren't mormons, those were jahovah's witnesses.

and that was funny

I've said all that I wanted to.

The missionary guy made some good points, but seriously, after living a life with mormons...the ones that are very religious and follow their creed diligently are the most close minded, stuck up, frustrating, and condescending people I've ever met. And don't pull that "no one's forcing you to live here" bull shit because I still have a half a year before I go to college. I have no problem if you're mormon, they just follow so many principles that I find racist/condescending and it's all jsut bullshti.

BAHAHAHAHAHA YAARRRGGG!!!

the mormon population has actually started to go down in the past few years or so. also, mormons moved here cause pretty much noone else wanted this land, and they were being forced out of everywhere else prior to salt lake.

correct me if im wrong, but Alta was NOT founded by Mormons. Alta was actually considered hell by mormons for years, because all the boozin and prostitutin goin on by the miners and, well, hos. if you disagree and think im stupid, tell me why Hell Gate, if you even know what that is, was named Hell Gate in the first place.

to the Mormon who commented earlier, simple question: Why are you mormon? I honestly am curious.

I AM GOD DONT FUCK WITH ME!

mormons are nice people, dont get me wrong. however i beieve their views and ideologies to be a little skewed.

TO ANYONE DEFENDING MORMONS: please go to the conference center at temple square, and go on a guided tour. listen to everything the guide has to say, then please come back here and tell me their religion isnt a cult.

Hell gate almost burned to the gound! I was very sad when I saw it and almost cried at the greatest complex in alta.

No they weren't. Beacuse Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe in hell or Saints. They'ed sooner curse than tell someone they're going to hell. Also where are the bags with they're books, bibles and magazines? That's standard equipment. Everyone know Jehovah's Witnesses walk from door to door with their bibles in their hand. Definitely staged

come on guys keep this thread alive damnit! maybe it'll help if i come to the doors of everyone saying mormons dont deserve to be harassed, at 8 in the morning, and try to change your religious views with an "im better than you cause im going to heaven and your cause im in a fucking cult" attitude, unless you change your religious views ofcourse and join us.

or maybe it'll help if i slap you with my enormous cock, and donkey punch your mom.

hahaha if ur in slc and would like to kick my ass, please let me know so we can fight.
