More WSI Problems

What the fuck is going on this year? First they cancel girls qualifiers, then boys under 13, now they relaize at the last second that they had absolutley no insurance for the event, so it is now sanctioned under FIS (BC freestyle) which means everyone is now going to have to buy the FIS insurance, and the event will run under FIS protocol.

If you find it hard to read, W1 is the group putting on WSI this year, and that is an agreement between them and BC freestyle, i cut out the signatures at the bottom but its all signed

you would think for such a big event they would have there act together.... apparently not, fis sactioned event will suck.

Whistler has nothing to do with it (nor Intrawest for that matter), W1 is the outside body and event organizer, and they are a whole different company putting the event on, and its their insurance that is meaningful. WB's does not cover outside events.

Confusing - a bit. Rocket Science - no.

And insurance companies are making money hand over fist.

BTW - I wouldnt be surprised if the BC Freestyle insurance, which is a part of a national organizing body, limits inverted aireals.

all i know is, a girl i know got screwed out of a spot in the wsi, so someone is doing a terrible job orgainzing this year.

For Halfpipe to be an official sport recognised by the Int Olypic Comitee I think It has to be sanctioned by the FIS, It sucks but what can anyone do about it. Nothing

 
maybe d-loc should apologize for getting belligerent on that guy about insurance company profits. soon as the record was set straight, he disappeared. what do you have to say d-loc?

 
as far as I know theres still a girls qualifier...no one has called to tell me otherwise and I spoke to the woman running it two days ago.

 
there isnt a girls qualifier because two girls from vernon were supposed to go for slopestyle but qualified girls got shanked out of it. now its only the guys.

but ya BC freestyle sanctioned event wont be super good, every comp they have sanctioned this year has been no inverts in slopestyle.

 
First of all, it's not "FIS" that is sanctioning the event. It's the CFSA, which stands for the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association. This isn't the first time that they've sanctioned the WSI and other events that you probably weren't aware of (i.e., Snow Jam), and probably won't be the last time.

Instead of complaining, you guys should be ecstatic that they are taking a risk, stepping up offering to provide insurance since it may otherwise have been cancelled. Or, almost as bad, been subject to monster entry fees for all of the athletes in order to afford to buy insurance from some other company who knows nothing about freestyle skiing.

As for the mismanagement of the event, if that's occurring, then that's the fault of the event organizers, not FIS or the CFSA or the CIA or the NSA or whoever else is part of the big conspiracy.

The whole "FIS sucks" mentality is sooooo old, please get over it!

 
go fucking crawl in a hole and die. my parents own an isurance angancy and post 9/11 insurance companies have had a super hard time turning a profit and this trickles down to agencys too. and I have watched all of this first had i have watch multi million dollar companies go down the drain expecially post 9/11 and high risk insurance markets (i.e. ski resorts, rafting compaies, most recreational activies) are getting DROPED compleatly by companies. fewer and fewer companies offer insurance to places like whistler (surprised that INTERWEST doesn have its OWN insurance that it backs and has to go through FIS to get insurance for the comp i smell a favor going on here ) also rates have sky rocketed for them too i won't go into the exact amounts that rates have gone up for these people but lets just say i know rafters that pay twice as much as then did 2 year ago for insurance.

Sanchez- whats the difference in policies between the CFSA and the FIS? are they more lenient towards, say, inverted aerials? and is the judging any different, are they looking for technique or style? just curious is all..

Thats a good question cause the airials do triple flips with 3 4 & even 5 spins (full/full/full)

do flips in the bumps & d spins so why would they not be allowed in slopestyle.

in the bumps, a dspin is considered off axis. if you tilt your head to the side while doing a backflip, it is considered off axis. it isnt, but that is how they classify it. a good deal of insurance companies are just out to scam people. insurance is a business that makes its money on not paying out. if they paid every claim, they wouldnt make any money. i personally believe it was ridiculous for 1080 to blame bin laden for all the car accidents, deaths, and fires that make up a good deal of the pay outs in insurance. he had absolutley nothing to do with a good deal of them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the first couple of years that the WSI was around the CFSA sanctioned it. Nothing's changing, you're just hearing about it now.

As for the difference between FIS and the CFSA, there are BIG differences if you know the organizations. For example, when it comes to judging, the CFSA is actually taking proactive steps on a year-to-year basis for improving pipe and big air judging, while the FIS guys are a lot slower because of the international bureaucracy.

As for the stock price, that's in and of itself is not necessarily an indicator of a company's profits.

 
you amuse me..... canadian based comapny of course they won't be effected insurance companys make their money in the stock markets investing and more then likly they invest heavly in the canadian market over the US. i guess it comes down to if its an american traded company that insures FIS or canadian or french or whatever. but i can tell you from first had experance that 9/11 caused a big upheavle in the recreational insurance industy due to its high liablity.

Actually, I might point out that your America-centric way of looking at this is making you look like the ass, here. We're talking about an event in Canada and a Canadian insurance company, and you immediately assume that if it's wrong when applied to the USA, it's wrong overall? Pay attention to context, please.

Sanchez seems to have shown up for no better reason than to post about all of this, so I'm going to leap to the conclusion that he's in some way associated with CFSA or something relevant to the situation and hopefully has some inside info. What means this for the way the comp will be run? I remember the FIS running a pipe comp a few months back at which everyone was surprisingly happy with the judging, so let's not strike up the torches and storm the castle in a peasant revolt just yet...

also might point out that insurance covers across borders and FIS is a multi national corporation thus who knows who they use.
