more tuning, a few waxing questions

I tried ouit waxing a ski for the first time today on an old pair. I think it turned out pretty good but not sure. How do I know when to stop scraping? when I get no more wax coming off? I had a ton of waste too. How much should I initially drip on? Whats the easiest way to reuse the waste?

I'm using dakine's iron, it was cheap and thats what the shop had. anybody know if its alright at staying at a good temp.?

 
Don't reuse the wax, I mean, I guess you could, but I don't and won't. If you drip a thin strip down the middle of the ski you should have plenty of wax to work with and not much waste. Don't scrape till you are getting nothing, but right before that point.

dont reuse wax bec when u scrape that it the dirt and shit that ya want out of the ski. Also i drip likena zig zag pattern down the ski. should work.

either drip a jewish amount of wax on the ski, or crayon the wax on there. If ya crayon it on cover the entire running surface of the base. After you aplly the wax, then iron it into the base. Make sure the the way is spread evenly throughout the base. Then scrape off the wax, keep scraping till you cant get any more off. Then ya buff it with your buffer of choice. And then run over the ski lightly with a scoth brite pad.

 
Finishing touches are mostly personal preference, roller buffer, cork, scothbrite, I personally prefer a horse hair brush. Experiment with it and use the method you like the most.

yo just get some crayolas

and write your name

nah really

get some swix universal

prep your bases with some orange wax remover (smells nice aswell)

get your iron hot - if the wax smokes then its too hot

run down the base dripping the wax onto the ski

then run over the wax with the iron

leave for a few hours and then scrap

normally before i scrap the ski i run a warmish iron over the wax then scrap it off

 
you know when to stop scraping when you notice your bases are coming off. The bottom of my old volkls were black and I used white wax one time on them, when was scrapping with a metal spatula(BAD) I noticed numerous amounts of black stuff. That was my base and that was bad.

^^why the hell were you using a metal scraper? and scrap untill no more wax is coming off.

And ya its not about preference that you use a horsehair,brass ornylon brush. It is teh snow condition.

^it was two years ago and I didn't have a swix plastic scraper on hand. Plus I don't really give a shit about my twin tip bases all that much, but that doesn't apply to my TM's once I get them.
