Morality and the economy.

Could someone give me an example of this quote from their own personal experience:"morality represents how we would like the world to work; economics represents how it actually does." its for a final project and i have no idea what to do... thanks

Well its saying that people want a moral system based on higher values etc...

but in reality their getting an economy which is somewhat of a satire as an economy down to it's basic roots of Aristotle would be moral.

However now a-days the economy is run by immoral pricks and people who don't take the blame for their own actions....far from moral.

Most people want everything to be all nice and stuff based on our morals. The economy is in the shitter which shows that as of now the world fucking sucks.

Morality is the system by which people would ideally live their lives. A society based on things such as trust, friendship, law and order, basic niceness etc. However the system we currently live in is based primarily around economics, meaning that money takes over everything. An example would be that in order for a shop/company to survive it must compete with other shops/companies. The idea is simple - to make the most money. This therefore means that one shop/company theoretically wants the other company to fail in order to gain its customers and thus more money. Classic moral values have been lost. This is just a very simple example of something that happens all over the world from small shops to large scale corporations. Hope this helps.

I'll also add onto that a point about advertising...The idea of advertising is to make people buy a product over another product. Its full of lies, products are often unhealthy and companies generally dont care what happens as long as you buy their product and they get rich. This is the ultimate clash of classic morals vs economics. Even though the companies know a product may harm you, they dont care as long as you give them money.

Honestly? This is for a final and you get a basic ass question like this and can't even answer it? How about you go read a book or something.

kinda what everyone said. Its all fluffy and nice to help everyone out, IE social healthcare, etc, but economically its all about survival of the fittest. Which may hurt some feelings

this.

Through centuries of scourges and disasters, brought about by your code

of morality, you have cried that your code had been broken, that the

scourges were punishment for breaking it, that men were too weak and

too selfish to spill all the blood it required. You damned men, you

damned existence, you damned this earth, but never dared to question

your code. Your victims took the blame and struggled on, with your

curses as reward for their martyrdom - while you went on crying that

your code was noble, but human nature was not good enough to practice

it. And no one rose to ask the question: Good? - by what standard?

  • I'm working to improve my methods, and every hour I save is an hour added to my life.

For centuries, the battle of morality was fought between those who

claimed that your life belongs to God and those who claimed that it

belongs to your neighbors - between those who preached that the good is

self-sacrifice for the sake of ghosts in heaven and those who preached

that the good is self-sacrifice for the sake of incompetents on earth.

And no one came to say that your life belongs to you and that the good

is to live it.
