If you were being threatened with tourture by the church because of your scientific belifes, would you denounce publicly your science, or would you let yourself be killed by tourture to prove your point?

if you publicly denouce them can you still call them your beliefs? If you take the vis a versa of the situation and face death for your religious beliefs and public denouce your religion public most religions believe that you are a sinner and not worthy of the faith.

What i was trying to say and did not articulate very well was that if these "scientific beliefs" are truely your moral beliefs then they are the fiber of your being. Remember our morals are what makes us who we are, they are what we act on and refer to in time of question and if we publicly denouce them then we have denouced who we are. If you truely believe in them nothing will make you want to reject them because it is more than just a point it is the bases who you are. It is not about suffering torture to prove a point, it is about suffering to prove your strength of character. That is why the bible says to welcome public trials for they are a proving ground of our beliefs.

I would "denounce" them. No one can take away your beliefs. What good are they if you are dead? I may not be gay, but if someone threatened to kill me, I would say I am gay to save my life.

people on trial for their religous and scientific beliefs are totally different. scientists know what they say to be true and dont usually care if fools think otherwise. but people who are heavily religous consider it detrimental to their eternal soul to go against their beliefs so they would die for them. im not religous so id probably 'pussy out' and not think much of it

When galileo denounced what he knew was the truth, he may have been lieing so he could live and continued on with his research, but from an ethical and moral standpoint he had failed. He didnt stand up for what he belived in. He let the church say that they were right and he was wrong.
