Yes the community is(should be) open minded. But there is something to be said about brands that come into the sport and don't support it or the athletes. In my opinion, Montec and Dope are fast fashion of outerwear. They're capitalizing on simple designs and outerwear that only needs to be worn 5-10 times a year. Which is pretty normal for your average skier or snowboarder.
 
the people buying brands like Montec were never going to buy "core" brands in a good faith effort to further sport. it would have been pure happenstance if they did. so that feels like a completely moot point and not a reason worth giving a shit about people wearing fast fashion brands.

I believee you are correct in saying that they would have never bought it in a good faith effort to further sport. But what you're missing here is that these brands flood the paid social market and price out core brands that split their marketing budgets between athletes, events, videos and paid social. Fast fashion brands don't allocate hardly any dollars to the areas that brands trying to support skiing do. In the world we live in, where you spend your dollars really does matter. Every purchase from a company like Montec or Dope reinforces the strategy that teams, events and support for the industry doesn't matter. With that type of purchase all you're saying is "I like a cool picture on the internet".

If we're sharing anecdotes, I have a 5 year old Armada 3L goretex with about 60 days on it and it is in fantastic condition. I'm not beating myself up in the park or hucking cliffs though.
 
I have two dope rain jackets. They comfy and look aight, can't complain. Let ppl wear whatever tf they want and if they ski like a jerry, then you know they're just posers. Same thing goes to ppl who wear expensive ass gear but can't ski for shit. I've seen so many jerrys wear $300+ goggles, helmets and $900 skis, so I completely stopped judging ppl based on their fits. I agree with some ppl here tho, I saw like 10 different ppl wearing dope last week on the mountain. It gets annoying af when u see how bad they actually are lmao.

If you don’t ride with a heavyweight wool flannel as an over coat, I feel bad for you. Whatever outerwear brand you buy from will not stand the test that a wool flannel can be put through. Make sure it’s real and make sure it’s thick. You will never rip it, it won’t let you get wet, they’re cheap at thrift stores and such but also cheaper brand new than any jacket with waterproofing. Tuck it in and you have the best powder gator that exists. Most ski gear is not meant to actually be skied in more that 20-30 days a year. I’ve gone through 3 100+ Day seasons working lift ops in the same wool flannel and only bought a new one because it was better than my old one.
 
Sure man, I have a jacket from 2012 that out performs my strafe jacket water proofing wise. This anomie has taken a beating through trees and still looks new.

I had a montec jacket as a gift that ripped within a week of trees

Not a bad quality considering how cheap it was. I got my bib/pants from them for $80 including shipping. Doesnt fit my swole ass legs too well but its so cheap haha

Montec is for mfs that wanna look like they shred big mtn and have all the tech gear but in reality ski on the east coast in 40 degree weather and still wear goggles

Well first of all they are no longer around. Long story short they got caught up in a cooperate mess and the company was forced to shutdown. But it’s depended on the coat and what level of insulation and weather it was meant for. Like my coat was only like $120. My old coat which was similar in terms of quality and insulation costed over $200
