Just started my senior year of highschool and am definitely looking to head out west for college. I have been thinking about Montana State for the most part. If anyone has any info on the school, or on the skiing, that would be helpful.

Bridger Bowl and Big Sky have some shred for sure

lmao what? Don't get me wrong I enjoyed my MSU/Bozeman experience, but the dining halls were firmly at the bottom of the list. Hopefully things have changed since '13/14 but Miller was trash during my year there

Naw, Rendezvous actually earned an award recently. I eat plant based and I find everything I need, usually in miller. The only thing that's trash nowadays is the grouchy ass staff. Food smacks though.

As one of those grouchy ass staff I will kindly ask you to stop being an entitled turd and let us resent our jobs in peace

How does everyone get over to Bridger even though it closes at 4? What are people’s schedules like?

8am classes and late afternoon classes, cramming all your classes into M/W/F or T/R, ski all weekend. Or you can skip class, there's always at lease one skippable class.

Hahaha I got no problem with you guys. Never been even the slightest bit entitled. Just grab my food and go lol.

I just notice staff arguing with eachother, bitching at students for leaving the tongs in the food tray, or for not lining up right, etc. Of course it's not really that deep but I do wonder why you wouldn't just apply somewhere else on campus/in bozeman if it really is as bad as you make it out to be (which I would 100% believe)

You get free food out of it

It has perks:

it it is super duper close by

I can schedule around my classes

$11.50 an hour

easy work

can steal as much food as I want

piff friendly (kinda).

Only things that that suck are managers, work conditions, boredom, other student workers, students being little shits, bitchy cooks, only getting paid once a month, unorganized staff, cocky student managers, cleaning filthy shit constantly and all the cuts and burns you roll with

Graduated from MSU this December and loved every second of it. Bozeman is sick if you go get after it! I played in a band, has a sled, skied my brains out, played the social media skier game that Bozeman thrives on and lived the life. /claim

Just a fair warning, Bozeman is like a fairytale land and if you aren't focused on school, you'll get distracted, like lots of my skier friends and I did, making it tough get what you need out of school and start the whole adulting thing. I chose to just go to school because it was the "thing to do" and really wish I had figured what I wanted to do out first. Although I definitely got a decent education and grew big time through my time in Bozeman, I look back and see I definitely wasted time in school just "getting a degree" when I was more focused on skiing / partying / playing music / girls....whatever.

My advice,

If all you want to do is ski and party: fucking MOVE TO BOZEMAN AND TAKE A GAP YEAR. It's cheap and super fun. Ski your brains out, smoke some weed, do some drugs, party with the hipster kids who think trying hard is dumb and figure yourself out. Don't waste your money on a degree from a school that, lets all be real here, is good, but the education is nothing overly impressive (although the engineering is pretty legit).

If you really know what you want to do: go to MSU and make something of it. Get to know your professors, join some clubs and get involved with the town. It sounds lame but you'll get so much more out of your education and money.

But who knows you, could just be another trustafarian who thinks Bozeman is the new Boulder and you'll miss the point of Bozeman and Montana entirely.

/rant.

Coming from someone who misses Bozeman dearly.

Played in a band? How did you pull that off? I’m pretty set on going to MSU. Would it be a shitty idea to drag along a drum set and a few guitars?

The music scene in Bozeman/all of Montana is fucking dope, so definitely not a bad idea. At minimum you'll meet some great musicians and make connections

Drove through MSU on my way out to Portland this year. Lots of hot girls and lots of guys that look like mega douche bags. My friends who go there like it tho.

Nah man bring the instruments! Playing in a few bands in Bozeman was just as much fun as pow days up at BBowl. If you're a drummer you'll have no problem finding people to jam with. Just put yourself out there and send it.

What about a euphonium boi?

I graduated with my BA History in 2018. I now work for Chemistry & Biochemistry because MSU will pay for my Master's classes up to 6 credits, with scholarships supporting the minimal other credits I'll need next year.

If you've got any questions, feel free to message me here or on ig: ethnosamtric

I don't know much about architecture, college of ag, or nursing though. Work pretty closely w/ engineering, and know Letters and Science very well.

Applied in an early abbreviated application thing in the summer and got in, still applying to some other schools but MSU is most likely my #1 choice. Heard so much great about it and I went to tour and it was incredible.
