Montana state university vs western washington

im applying to these schools for next year. im a senior, smoke lotta weed, and like chill/kick backed mountain communities/towns. going to major in the health sciences and i wanna ski a lot. what are the positives and negatives of these schools? got any other ideas? nothing in Utah, i hate mormons.

MSU is sick, pretty good ski town vibe. Skiing wise the proximity to Bridger is key, and Big Sky and Moonlight are within an hour drive. I have no clue how the school is for that major, but you sound like you'd fit right in.

P.S. You have the best icon on NS.

MSU has a pretty decent health sciences dept, the school itself isn't bad. Its also a fantastic community for people like who you sound like. Lots of weed smoked here. Lots of chill people. Very outdoorsy. The skiing is wonderful, 30 min ish to Bridger which isn't my favorite mtn but the proximity can't be beat, less than an hr to Moonlight and Big Sky, both incredible resorts that have a lot to offer. I honestly don't have much bad to say about this place, the guy/girl ratio is a bit whack but manageable

a lota whack.

friend went to MSU billings and transfered to western for next year.

although that being said billings is a shit hole. bozeman is waaayyy chiller.

i live in bham and love it, if you dont mind white trustafarians, and hippies who think theyre above everyone cuz they drive a volve and "dont pollute" then you will love it.

both towns are a lot a like, bham has much better access to the ocean and surfing. which in the summer is fun asss shitt.

also it never snows at baker.

I'm stuck between these two schools. Only reason I'm leaning toward WWU is more girls, baker, and the vibe and climate I don't mind and actually kind of like. And the reason I'm concidering MSU is its about 4k cheaper a year and my dad has a boner for the place.

Both have good programs for the subjects I want to study, stuck between engineering, pre-med, or some sort of environment or ecological work

I have visited Bozeman, and living in montana, I would have to say it is one of my favorite towns in montana. It has a great vibe, and it awesome. I have never skied Big Sky, but i've heard it is great. I would definitely go for MSU!

bozeman is chill as fuck, i go down there a loti love it, it's big enough to have fun but small enough to have a small town feel.

the people are super chill and fun! the mountains are plentiful and sick

but i wouldn't go down there unless you wanna be doing something with science, health or likee...teaching

I did my undergrad in msu. Now I'm moving to the pnw. Both are rad so do like I do.

Also my undergrad was in a health type major. Pm me with questions as this is year 6 in Bozeman. I'd give a longer reply but I'm on mobile.

I go to MSU bozeman and it's awesome if you are a skier. bridger is only 20 minutes from campus and the whole ski town vibe of bozeman is awesome. If ur going into the dorms get into Roskie hall, its the ski/smoke weed hall and ull meet the coolest people on campus there. Western would be cool though, my best friend goes there and its a great place to go if ur really into mtn biking. the snow at stevens pass and baker is awesome but its kinda wet, not like bridger's cold smoke ha. either or would be sweet man.

I wouldnt worry about the lack of women, man. Honestly, you'll find a groove, find a cool chick to kick it with, and be stoked that you are not in the city. Ive lived in mtn towns with no girls, and the trick is to NOT be constantly bitching about the lack of girls and trying too hard to get laid. The girls will notice if you are just kickin it, havin a good time, etc, seeing as the girls that are there likely have the same mindset.. Can any MSU pinknames back me up on this one? Its tested an true.

Besides the thing with women (which is not a big deal) , you will avoid the mob of hipsters and trustafarians at WWU. IMO, Bozeman is in one of the most beautiful areas in the US - good skiing, mountains, close to canada, yellowstone, etc

Go to Montana.

^ true dude, bozeman is tight. I have a chill ass girl, it's not like there arent any women here. the ratio gets better every year

well, if you like to smoke weed a lot you'll have no problem fitting in at either place. With that said, i'm at MSU right now and i love it...haven't experienced a boring day yet. try to get into either Roskie or South Hedges, North seems pretty disconnected and boring. the skiing here is amazing, bridger, big sky, and moonlight all have awesome terrain. really, if you're into anything "outdoorsy" you'll be able to find friends that do the same activity as you extremely easily. the weather here is great, it's either snowing or sunny. as far as girls go, the ratio is kinda whack but thats why you just go skiing, have fun, and not stress on girls. the town is awesome, i haven't really encountered any assholes yet. so yea, my vote goes to MSU.

MSU looks sick, I have friends that have gone there but people get into some hard drugs there, including some of my friends. I have visited wwu and I have to say that I like the vibe I got while I was there, everyone I met was super chill and nice and it was very herb friendly if you smoke.

Bakerpow throws some gnarly parties with mad bitches, make sure your there if there is a party. I here It gets wild.

I know that, just from what I have heard from my friends, heroin use is more prevalent at at msu other colleges like wwu. Just don't get pressured into it, if you see your friends doing it you or are in a room where people are smoking heroin you dont need to do it, because you will like it and thats when it starts going down hill.

Even though college is still pretty far away for me these are the main two schools I'm considering so threads!

i don't think theres alot of heroin use at msu hahaha wtf

i do know one kid whos into that shit though

if we do drugs at msu we get trippy mane

Well thats what my friends say, and I know multiple kids that have gotten into that stuff at msu. To me it seems logical that there would be more heroin use at msu compared to wwu since the school is bigger. I have a couple friends that also go to wwu, and they haven't come into the proximity of any sketchy drugs coke is definitely there though, Its college, and I am sure there is heroin at wwu too but just less common. What I want to get across is dont make stupid choices. It seems simple but I know really smart kids that have become addicts and veered down dark paths, in and out of jail constantly high as fuck all day and it's sad. Be smart.

Trippy is the good route. wwu can get whack though with administration getting in trouble with smoking and drinking, my friends up there have never had the police called on them though, how ever they have gotten into some trouble with administration.

When I was there one weekend the college got all worked up about kids dropping acid. Someone ratted on them though and even though it was days after taking the drug they still got in trouble. Living in the residences seems fun as hell, but at times it can be bullshit. I'm sure that happens at all colleges though. When I was there my friends whole floor was smoking bud, in the dorms running around shooting air soft guns throughout the building, it can get crazy on that floor at times thats for sure, then this kid walked my friends dorm and pulls a qp in his back pack and generously smoked everyone out, and apparently he always brings a qp jar where ever he goes haha.

roskie and south are both shit holes and the dorm food is even worse.

but overall bozeman is the shit if your into skiing and whatnot

Go to MSU. and the girl situation is really not a big deal at all because the 2 or 3 to 1 guy to girl ratio doesnt matter because the other 1 or 2 dudes that you are battling the girl for are just langford geeks who couldnt get a girl anyway. go to Montana

Western is aight, but you're kind of limited to Baker, from what I've heard. People don't seem to go to other places like Stevens or Whistler. WWU is also gonna be a fair amount more hipster.

My intuition tells me MSU might have a better party scene, but I could be completely wrong. I do think it has more skiers, though, since it definitely has more of a reputation as a skiing school.

As far as girls though, I have literally no idea.

my bro went to msu first year and i just finished my first quarter up at western. Coming from idaho, baker is the tightest place i have ever been (big sky doesnt compare imo, just seems bigger and has a park[lame]) The party scene in bellingham is pretty whack so far but im a freshman in the dorms so only know a few people with houses. They have a bus they drive around with a judge in it and they write warrants to big house parties then fuck everyone over whos underaged. Most of the kids who go to western are from washington. Unless you like hunting, the area is alot more appealing for most outdoor activities to me just because the green is alot more beautiful then brown hills. If you MTB go to western. It rains pretty much everyday, unless you're a bitch or a skateboarder or something, you get used to it

i have more random info that i can throw together if need be, or ask questions

maybe you should hold back on shallow comments about other people's schools until after you go to college, or maybe you should just hold back on shallow comments in general.

people choose schools for a reason; the programs, the vibe, the people, the sports, the activities outside of campus. saying a schools is "shitty" is just an overall general and uneducated observation. i'm sure both MSU and WWU both have very good programs, as well as some bad ones, but that comes with every school. i know for a fact that MSU has a great health program, engineering program, film and photography program, and one of the best architecture programs in the country. along with this it has skiing, climbing, and every other outdoor activity you could want. that's why i chose to go to MSU. so no, in fact it is not a "shitty school."

let's not turn this thread into another bad school vs. good school argument. i just thought i'd clear things up on how schools are determined, at least in my eyes. you can come back and argue with me when you've matured and been educated on college and the reasons for it.
