Mont Ripley SnoComp '07

The comp is back for its third year and bound to be the best one yet. With the new park on danny boy it should be more of a slopestyle instead of the usual one big hit followed by a couple small ones that dont really matter. Anyways, here's the info: This saturday (the 24th) Registration 8-9 and yes once again it is free. There will be two age divisions groms and outlaws aka older kids and of course skiers and snowboarders seperate. Prizes for top three including a pair of skis for both age groups and a bunch of give-aways. Its a jam format where each group gets an hour (i think? gotta double check the flyer) and the judging format hasnt been determined but it'll probably be a combination of judges and rider input with a special riders pick award (john wayne award?). Let me know if you have any questions and i should be posting some pics of the park as its finished this week. Good luck and hope to see y'all there!

Right now the line goes like this: 15 ft stepdown, 30 ft stepdown, huge wide open area that needs something, table with a 25 ft lip and a small 5-10 ft lip with the option of an up rail and another option to a weird little step up thing, jank little c-rail, then the final table which isnt finished yet but should have a 30 ft lip with a 30 ft battleship rail right next to it that can be hit alone or as a disaster off the big lip and there will probably be a smaller lip on the other side. Like i said before, i should be getting some pictures up as soon as things are finished.

I'm so pissed, you've got it one week too early so I can't make it...but definitely throw up some pictures of the park once you've got 'em.

whoever zero spins the whole course is pretty much guaranteed to win.... hahaha. That'll be hard though cuz the jumps are all very different.

so official set up.

First hit is a 20 foot step down, much like a straight up cliff drop.

second is a 30 foot kicker, a lil skier crossish, we'll see if we have enough time to fix it. or a flat down rail set up with an urban style lip option also.

third hit is a 25 foot kicker, super mellow, but very lofty (strange I know), probly the best jump i've hit, ever, or a 10 foot jump.

and the last hit is a triple threat option a 30 foot trap box, a 20 foot kicker, or a 7 footkicker.

I'm going to try really hard to throw some more options in for all the rail dogs, and maybe a barrel jib, cuz i liked mqts.

Overall it should be a really fun comp, and the rest of the park is pretty cool too, so y'all should be able to have fun all day.

sick comp, i wish i could have seen everybody ski tho. it would have been cool to have two heats or something where the first heat judges the second heat as they ride, then switch.

only 365 more days til snocomp '08!

thanks to everyone that showed up, rode, and just had a good time. minus the wind it couldnt have been much better of day. congrats to all the winners and thanks for all the positive feedback. seemed like most people were pretty happy with the park (big props to gavin and pete for making that happen). I would have pictures and a full report of what went down...but due to injury i had to leave kinda early. needless to say i'll be looking forward to next year as things should only be gettin better.

so I took like a million pics with jasons camera after he got injured, but shit didn't come out. very sorry all. Thanks to the market brothas for throwin down hard. Phil shoulda won with his bowl runs and tree skiing. Thanks, and come back when it warms up!

it was awesome. i wish a "sweet-spot" session would have went down during the jam, but the wind made it hard for people to get speed. small jumps are good for brutal days - but take their toll on competitors who up the ante without enough air. anyway, i have a really good idea for next year, something me and pete came up with a few years ago - i'll draw a pic if the organizers want my input. basically 2 tables around the size of "sweet-spot" in the best location for speed and aesthetics. THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT MADE IT HAPPEN!

small jumps are brutal for competitors trying to up the ante? I don't get that. As for next year, the format will change to a slopestyle comp in the morning, a concert, and then a big air over sweetspot. with sweetspot actually being set up as a step up. we tried to this year but there wasn't enough snow. Sweetspot takes a million gallons of water to create. It's insane. We found a solution for next years snow making, and hopefully all will go as planned. Input is welcome all year though because the comp is for competitors, and money willing, we'll do what we can.

how don't you get that? i saw people trying 900's eating shit getting worked because the jumps were too fucking small. i talked to pete and he told me straight up you were being a whiney bitch gavin. anyway, i know the perfect spot on the hill for 2 massive tables but since everyone else knows better i guess shit will never change.

thats funny, pete told me you suck as a person. i'm not going to factor in wind as a reason for eating shit at all.... And really spin to win eh? What's wrong with the 16 year old snowboarder throwing corked 5's. If you can't throw a 9 over it, throw a really corked 7, Get creative, don't be a bitch. The only jump we made smaller was the one pete made where the take off was taller than the cat. I don't know about you but I'm not going to have the whole park scrapped after a kid cases the jump, and breaks his legs. It's funny because you have no idea what goes into building a park, you don't have to keep the manager happy, and you don't have to tell the manager that the jumps are already small enough when he thinks they are too big. Nick's given us a ton of freedom this year, So anything he says I'll do, even if that means make an unsafe jump smaller. And as for size, we didn't really have much snow this year. sorry ryan, maybe next year winter will happen before feb. And if you want to donate the money it takes for over 2 million gallons of water for your two massive tables, I'll build them. But if you don't I'm going to make a park that every single person can have fun in. I take that back, every person who is open minded enough that a small hill in the midwest doesn't need an entire line of 65 foot jumps so that 5 or 6 people can hit them and throw switch 10s on. Marquette had that park, and it got scrapped. Move out west if you want sw 10 jumps. I'd rather have 15 year olds just pumped to ride what ever we have than people who bitch non stop, because a jump isn't big enough. If you want to pay for the snow for big jumps for yourself, step up and do it. If you don't move some where else or stop bitching. But keep giving all your free advice, keep whining I don't care, until you offer up something positive, what you say means nothing to anyone.

the whole point is that ripley hit its prime before you got here - sweet spot was pushing 70 ft and the big lip for the table after was damn near 50 ft. now it's going backwards? doesn't seem right. and i might suck as a person, but you suck as a skier. i seriously watched you skip every hit the morning of snow comp and then BARELY stick a switch 180 over a table YOU MADE THAT IS 2 FT LONG. it sounds stupid saying it, but it actually is 2 ft long and you struggled. HAHA.

pete made that jump wangsta. And I can't fuck around when I ski?

Pete also made those two jumps, and jason helped him. There wasn't enough snow to make sweetspot bigger. I was carrying a camera by the time you were skiing at snowcomp because jason hurt his knee, before that I was spinning over every jump. wait why am I replying to the garbage? I'm done. Say what you want. It means nothing.

dude, props on the "wangster". i swang the wang even harder than i ski or snowboard - so its a very fitting name indeed. i'll go by ryan from now on though, because i won't allow another male to address me by a nickname based on my massive wang size. it's good you chill though, i wouldn't want you having to swallow your teeth. PEACE.
