Monster sues vermonster

This is gonna sound familiar... Long story short: Rock Art Brewery in Vermont celebrated their 10th anniversary by brewing a beer by the name of Vermonster. Monster Energy drinks caught wind of this and decided to sue the pants off Rock Art, a small microbrewery that definitely couldn't handle a lawsuit brought on by a huge corporation. It's so wrong that Monster, run from the opposite side of the country, would seek out companies like Rock Art simply in the name of profit. Clearly Monster won't be losing any business from the sale of a craft brew made in Vermont, but what they will be doing is robbing our country of something it needs desperately: domestically produced goods. Monster does produce their product domestically but relies on corporations from Canada and Mexico for distribution. Makes you wonder if the winnings from this lawsuit would be marked down as a capital gain for monster come next spring...http://www.pintlog.com/2009/10/monster-energy-sues-rock-art-brewery.html

ziiinggg!
but really that sucks, i live in vermont and I read about this in the paper. monsters just turning into WME

NO SHIT?! REALLY?! I WOULD HAVE NEVER GUESSED!

It's a repost because the point needs to be made clear to EVERYONE. Not everyone is going to be on here at the same time and the more exposure, the better it is for the cause. Quit being socially numb and get involved in something. Use those 3 brain cells you have going for you.

That is bullshit if vermonster is not an energy drink. If it were an energy drink and called vermonster I could understand why they would be upset. A beer with a similar name won't cut into their market share though.

Rock Art had the name trademarked in Vermont, this ordeal arose when they filed for a national trademark because they wanted to grow and distrubute outside of new england. This perked the ears at Monster and they are making a case by claiming that they could possibly enter the alcohol market.

Please do not buy Monster. This is terrible business practices of stepping on somebody smaller because you can. Pearl St Beverage in Burlington and Beverage Warehouse in Winooski have already pulled all monster off their shelves (In winooski it was their best selling energy drink) They also pulled all coolers and marketing materials from monster!

I think that most people don't realize that Hansen's beverage co. is who owns monster, so don't just stop at monster but all of hansens drinks

snowcase summed it up nicely but seriously... I don't have the time to check NS all day. the video just popped up on my facebook, I thought i'd spread some awareness about it

i just sent complaint emails to monster and hanson.. i reccomend everyone does the same. too all the people bitching about a repost. suck it up. im sure that not everyone sits on NS all day and memorizes what threads have been posted and searchbars for 15 minutes to make sure they didnt repost. the whole searchbar thing was funny but after a while, it just pisses me off. unless theres 5 threads about the same thing on the same pagem just shut up. k?

I'm usually not one to call repost. But what the fuck. Even a mod made the mistake of reposting a repost, and now you.

That was my thought. I was like WTF Monster is suing Ben and Jerrys?

Pretty ridiculous, there is no way that they have a copywrite on that term because Ben and Jerry's must have it.

that brewery is not even 10 minutes from my cottage. i sent monster a complaint email. probably wont do anything but if they get a bunch of them maybe.

there response was real good. the hardest part of starting a successful business is getting your name out there and vermonster is just using monster's name to become popular. and monster isn't suing because it's a smaller company and they can, they would sue any company that steals their name.

I dont think they are "using monsters name to become popular" Vermonster is common speak here is Burlington(with champ and all) ben & Jerry's uses it as well. It is a monster (or Lake monster) of a beer because it is 10% alcohol. It has no interest in energy, and if you look at the top of monsters response it have 4 different trademarked logos, none of them resembling kokopeli or anything on the rock art label
