I have the Prodigy 2 in a 177 too and I went for the 108 Cat in the 184 mounted at +2, and the sizing feels perfect, still easy to pivot and jib around on but with way more charge in chop and stability with the extra length, if you're wanting to charge harder than the Prodigy can handle it's definitely the way to go

for size reference I'm 5'6 and 135lbs ish so if I were you I'd go 184 for sure, it will probably feel like a lot of ski to start if you haven't skied something that long before but you'll get used to it

There are two common ways to 'measure' skis, material length (most companies) and straight tape pull (ON3P and a few others I can't think of).

Material length is the length of the base material prior to pressing the skis, while straight tape pull is measuring from the tip to the tail after production, without following the curvature of the ski. Picture attached. If you straight tape pull a Moment ski, it will come out to 1.5-2cm shorter than the material length.

Good to know. I thought you guys measured straight tape pull like ON3P and K2.

Commanders are metal layered flat tail skis. So they’re going to carv like a beast and and scream down the hill.

atomic vantage ti 97 is a similar style ski. Sub par though.

I saw some 98 on gear west for $600. The profile is a lot different on the old model and looks a bit more all-mountain than the new one. So I’m worried the new one might be a bit too groomer oriented for what I’m looking for.

I have the 98. And I’ve handled the 92 in person the profiles are not different. Just slightly more narrow now waist wise.

Personally I don’t like my 98 as an “all mountain”

The 98 > 92 revision came with a lot more than just the slimming of the waist.

The sidecut was shortened, there's now three separate radii in the 92 vs two in the 98, the tip rocker was reduced by quite a bit, the tail contact point was shifted inward a bit to allow for easier breaking out of turns, and the stiffness was dialed up.

Had a great day over at beaver creek on the wildcat 108’s. A lot of snow over here atm. Snowing non stop. Sank a few times in the trees. Busting out the ghost trains tomorrow

On wildcats da 108s for like the 4th season in a row and they're about to die, living at Alta for the season, gonna get a fresh pair what would be the reasons for going countach? The Wildcat is the greatest ski ever made, but wouldn't mind switching it up
 
i found some moment reno rockers for 200 local around me, only skis i have rn are wets nd i was looking to get another ski to fuck around with all mountain. would they be worth?

what year? What condition are the skis in? I wouldn't go putting my faith in a ski that's pushing 14 years old. Definitely not for $200

Here's our quick comparison, let me know if you have any further questions:

The Wildcat 108 with its more progressive (forward) mount, deeper rocker lines, and twin tips is quicker to pivot, faster to slash, and more playful. The Countach 110 being more directional, with more rearward mount and flatter tail is more planted and locked in. The Countach can be driven harder, is more composed at speed, and engages faster. With its European Beech/Poplar core it is damper, more substantial, and stiffer which allows it to be more composed and supportive. The Wildcat 108 which uses an Ash/Poplar core is more snappy and supple making it more playful and nimble.



For those looking for a more directional platform that is more supportive, planted and can be charged harder look at the Countach 110. For those looking for a more playful and agile ski that requires less input and can even run through the park look at the Wildcat 108.

‘08, seller says virtually no wear so conditions probably 9-10/10, just asked for pics rn of anything

I mean i guess if the condition is really 9/10 then go for it. I'd still ask for a few bucks off considering it's 16 years old

do you know much about the ski? i was just planning on going nd feelin em out but if you had any input on them thatd be nice. wasnt much on them recently so idk how theyd compare to current gen of skis

Well hot.pocket would probably know more about the ski than me. Believe he said it's more of a park ski than an all mountain ski.

It's a fully rockered, semi stiff park ski build. It'll handle all mountain conditions, not quite as well as a dedicated all mountain ski but certainly won't be terrible.

Super nimble and pivots quickly due to the full rocker, while the semi stiffer core helps hold an edge when conditions are semi soft out.

This confirms all my suspicions. Ride the wildcats at -2 from center, any alt mount points for the countach that the shop likes?

-2 from center is way farther forward than any shop employee rides the Wildcat at, most ski +2 from rec, or -3 from center on the 101 / -4 from center on the 108 / fatcat.

Even the shop employees that bump mounts forward on all their other skis are skiing the Countach at the rec line. Gets a little twitchy mounted forward from rec.

At first the 194 felt a bit long. Especially compared to my wildcat 118 190.

but after some time skiing the trains and getting use to what they like I’d take these all day everyday over my wildcats. These things pivot on a dime. Even for the length super maneuverable especially in trees which was shocking. I expected to be smacking some tail. Hasn’t happened yet.

honestly it skis a tad shorter because of the tip and tail rocker.

I love the trains so much I’m likely selling my 190 118 cat. I just feel like the train does everything my cat does. And some.

another day on them currently. Sitting in the warming yurt atm.

Skied some oldies this last week:

12/13 Tahoe's: still ripping but I am going to cut down the twintips on those. Most skis in this category get some form of Ti / Metal these days but the all wood core very nice in these..

14/15 Exit Worlds: still a lovely powder touring tool that can handle tracked fields and bumps just fine. Still love the graphics.

Awesome feedback - they're def on the 25 wish list now for a hopeful japow trip, maybe cast em up. Just can't get over how rad the topsheet/base graphics are

Nothing new at the summit this year, we were planning on having some things but they're simply not far enough along in the R&D process yet.

Completely depends on how our R&D goes, we do our best not to rush things to market.

We have some ideas for additions to the lineup for the 24/25 season, they may or may not see an early release during the 23/24 season.

Broken is an understatement.... got my account setup after a ton of hassle trying to set a username and display name. I can't seem to PM or reply to any threads in the gear swap section due to my account not being "activated", despite supposedly clicking the activation email link.

Think I could PM you my number and ask you to forward it to the seller on TGR so they can reach out via text? Thanks so much man!

you have to participate in other sections before youre able to use gear swap. I think its just 5-10 replies or something. Its how they keep down on scams I guess.
 
Makes sense - wasn’t sure if it was something like that or something else since other aspects of their site are broken af ?. And of course they also don’t bother to state that anywhere in their rules or stickies ?

Today we're gonna talk about how to talk about skis.

A new video series where we break down different aspects of ski design and how they affect performance.

Ski design information has been somewhat of a black box, especially compared to the in depth information and knowledge of similar industries like mountain bikes. We're working on opening some of this info up for the less informed so everyone can make better informed decisions when it comes to skis.

First up, camber and rocker.
