Moment ski design Q.

I'm really interested in purchasing moment reno jibs at the end of the ski season. i have a few questions about them. Are they worth 575? And whats up with the square design? is it just different? or does it actually serve a purpose? and im 5feet 8inches. im thinkin either 171 or 166. which would be better? im currently rolling on invaders 171 and they seem a little long. And from the searchbar ive hearded incredible stories on how good these skis are so i assume nobody would have anything to say about that. Just wanted to know these questions thanks. Also to add. is there a possibility of the price going down around april or may?

i got my 09's in july for $300 from twintipnation, so the prices definitely do go down. The square tips are mostly just to set moment's skis apart from the rest of the industry, and i haven't really noticed a difference between square and round tips performance-wise. I would go with the 171's...im 5'9" and i ride 181s, but i prefer longer skis. the jibs are sickk and i doubt you will be disappointed.

Alright thanks man. yeah i enjoy a shorter ski because im not that strong so its easier to carve and stuff. i've heard the reno jibs are mad light. true?

I dont have the rockers but I have the comi's and like said above, the tip is mostly to set them apart but I know the edges dont fully rap the ski. The reno's are probably the same. I read in another thread that Moment doesnt fully rap their ski to reduce delam and edge cracks from the ski flexing.

yep, on the first couple generations of prototypes the edge would split out where it wraps around the square corner. but it's all sorted out now and the skis are really light but still real durable. you'll like the 171 for sure!

Alright.

And just another random question. if i were to possibly go out west or to japan would these skis ski pow decent? or would my invaders do better.

they'll be fine for the occasional powder trip. of course they wont perform like the bibby/night train/ comi in waist deep but you can never have a have a bad time on a powder day. I still ski my chronics unless there's been more than 8". plus they have a little rocker dont they?

ya, last year's reno jibs, the ones with tapes on them, have some sort of rocker/extended tip. I don't know how it performs in powder, i just got a pair, but it's noticeable

if you can afford to go to japan, i would not drop $600 on another pair of park skis when you already have invaders. get something in the 90-100 waist that you can still use for park. i can tell you liberty hazmats would be good cause i ski them, but pretty much any similar ski will work fine for park but be much more fun in japan.
in fact, you should consider 181 reno rockers. they'll feel like a 170 length ski because of the rocker, but when you're slaying pow in japan the rocker will be much more fun reno jibs. my friend has a pair and hes around your height, and he loves them.

took some measurements, tip rise begins 7.5 inches back from the tip of the reno jibs, with a total of around 2.25 inches of rise. Compared to my rossi scratch bcs (an older s5) the rossis tip rise starts back about 6 inches from the tip, and a total rise of 2 inches

for real? i was plannin on going to japan this winter to ski and spend time with the fam. but does the reno rocker have the same kinda life the jibs have?
