Hey hear me out. I keep stepping on the tails of my DW tour 190. I love the performance of the twin tip in resort but it sucks on icy skin tracks and I don’t ski chutes and powder fields backwards. Any serious reason I shouldn’t cut down the tail and shorten the ski. How would it change performance ?

also if I do that do you have any advice ?
 
youd definitely need to add rivets or something where you cut it at the tail to keep it from delaminating, and possibly adding some epoxy on the cut edge to keep water from getting in

Why not just sell them and buy a shorter pair?
 
I feel you on the not skiing chutes backwards. Chop that shit and post pics. I think you’ll be fine if you leave a tiny amount of tip, no core back there. Rivets and epoxy aren’t a bad idea
 
Email Moment. I asked them years back with basically the same question. I wanted to cut down the tails of a set of Tahoes. Luke emailed me back with tech specs on where the woodcore started / where the tail insert ends. Something like that anyway.

Did not do it in the end though because I just bought a whole bunch more skis :) Still have the Tahoes, great all mtn resort shredder.
 
what size are you? thought I had decided on the 190 DW tour but I've been going back and forth with the 184 for this reason
 
Why not just sell them and buy directional touring skis? Or sell them and get 184's? Or keep them and change up your technique?

Sure, you can cut them down, and it probably won't ruin the ski, but it ruins the resale value of the ski, and will change how the ski performs in deeper snow - tail rocker and splay has an affect on how a ski planes and turns in 3d snow. Basically twin tips/tail rocker don't just affect how a ski performs going backwards, they affect every aspect of the ski.

Like, I'm all for doing funky gear mods, but usually when people want to cut parts off their ski it's because they bought the wrong ski, and would be better served by something else.

maybe mount them a bit further back?

i wouldnt cut my skis. i think they would fall apart much quicker
 
I've toured a bunch on 185 JJ Zero's mounted at -1.5 without any issues. If anything it'll force you to have better technique. Are you knocking tail clips off because of it?
 
Yeah sometimes knocking the tails off. More often getting one ski caught on the tail of the other on a tricky kick turn and almost falling down a sketchy ridge line. I don’t think I’ll cut them down, but I might sell them and try something else that skis similarly. I like the lightweight free ride with that triple camber for the low tide days.

suggestions for replacement or trade for the 180somthins
 
This is accurate . Wish I got the 184. Don’t want to pay for new 184s so I was trying to get around that
