MMA ADS: WTF

Am i the only one to is pissed off about the 30 seconds before every video i watch where two guys beat eachother to a bloody mess? Last time i checked this was a ski site filled with kids not testosterone pumped 50 year olds. CHange the add to something ski related, shorten it, whatever. Your thoughts
 
It's user created content, it should be free. vimeo and youtube don't do it.

I used to just go and watch other random people's videos for an hour or so, but since the ads started I don't.
 
lol i havent watched a vid in a long time, cuz dub pits to chesty just made me mad
but i loled when he said war and paperview in that ad, i enjoyed it and ns getting payed for it
 
This is not the way to do ads. I just watched a 30 second ad on a 1:30 video...

I realize that ads support the site, but watching a 30 second ad for every video is stupid. It should be 30 second ad for every 10 videos you watch. And reset the counter every day.

Ex:

Dont tell people to stop complaining about these ads. Theyre right to complain as long as they know that there has to be SOME kind of ad before the videos. It's understood that NS needs to make money and doing it through ads is a fine way to do it, 30 seconds of ads isn't gonna kill you but MMA is the stupidest thing that they could have put up there. cars was fine and i guess the dirt bike thing sort of made sense cuz its an extreme sport but please pleaseeee put something that at least relates to skiing or something we all like. and im not trying to argue, ns should really consider this.
 
some sites its an ad every 3 videos which is pretty annoying still but its got to be done. besides i dont think they could easily make it so it counts the videos you watch since you open a new page for every video.
 
I think there's some pretty valid points in here...
These ads are being disabled, so you shouldn't see them for too much longer.
I agree that the ads need to be more targeted - MMA was a bit silly but it just sort of came up quick. As I say, we've been trying all kinds of different things and seeing waht works. I don't think this did. :)
Another point that I see a lot is that the ad frequency should be much lower. YES! Its totally possible, just takes a bit of re-factoring of the video system. We've had our video system in the upgrade process for the last few months to add stuff like this. We're also going to be putting in the ever-coveted progress meter amongst many other upgrades.
These ads need to be more targeted to you, and rate limited so that you're not bombarded. I know we haven't done a perfect job launching this out of the gate, but by the time the fall rolls around the new system will be out and we should have addressed all of these issues.
In the intrim, we won't put any more MMA ads in there... that's a little meat-heady of us.

 
i didnt mind it, i know there are some people on this site who fight MMA. i say keep it if its good money, the bigger issue is just to keep the ads rotating so we dont have double pits to chesty! playing over and over.
 
yeah calm yourselves. i was just saying how the MMA ads were annoying. not ads in general, not ns, and not ns making money, and not ns becoming more popular. and i did suggest that we make them shorter or dif subject. thats it. jesus i love ns and i think its great that they are making money just not with long as ads with nothing to do with skiing. poo
