MLB 14/15 thread

I somewhat wish they'd push an Atlanta-Boston rivalry a little more. The Braves were the first Boston team, and pretty much every big thing about the Red Sox...was stolen from the Boston Braves. Everything right down to the "retro" stuff they do at Fenway and most places these days. (stuff like hanging pennants, flags etc) Hell, even the red colored socks that wound up becoming their namesake were stolen from the Braves.

maybe it's a little too far gone for anyone who doesn't know baseball history too well.

doesn't really register with your casual baseball fan, unfortunately. on that note, i've definitely wondered if the red sox - yankee rivalry has calmed in recent years, as the two teams haven't battled each other at a significant stage as of late (ALCS), i would like something similar to that of the 04 ALCS to rekindle the rivalry and fire of NY and Boston fans alike.

if you run on Oakland, you're getting the gun.

Cespedes two nights in a row gunnin people down, Reddick showed his cannon earlier in the season with an amazing throw, A's make it happen

Soo, A's #5 starter breaks his non-pitching hand punching a chair after a bad outing, so the A's buy a AAA guy from the brewers for 1$ and are starting him tomorrow.

....If the A's win with a guy they traded 1$ for, I'm going to laugh my fucking ass off.

Spring training is underway so it's time to talk baseball again. Talk about trades, games, how much you hate baseball, or really anything. Like usual the cardinals are going to win it all this year.

Even as a sox fan they suck dick this year, Athletics will make it to the playoffs as one of the best in baseball and choke again, cubs will once again not win the world series, the yanks will spend too much money to not win again, and the one to take it all will be...... Athletics. I know I said they would choke and I think they will but stats wise they are the ones with the biggest shot. Oh ya and cy young award goes to Kershaw cause he is the man and a beast

I've already put 50$ down on the A's not winning the world series.

Even if I lose, I win either way you look at it (in which case, yay), but seriously, after all my experience expecting an Oakland win, I can't really bet on them to go far, much less win the whole thing.

...something worth noting at this point

The A's have their #1 and #3 starters on the DL, as well as one of the guys who replaced one of their spots. They have a guy who they traded a dollar to the brewers for (seriously, with sales tax involved, that's cheaper than a dollar menu item) and though the A's have won in his first two games pitching, he's also definitely not a guy you want for the long haul.

on top of that, we are giving 10 million to a guy named Jim Johnson. The saves leader for the last two seasons, only to see him pitch about as well as some random drunk who just stumbled out of a bar.

This doesn't look like a team that would be leading the league in winning percentage. It's a bit ridiculous.

did anyone catch the yankees red sox game last night? the fox guy were riding tanakas dick so hard and hardly even mentioned lester even though he had a no no through 5, gave up 0 earned runs and basically shut down the yankees.

also, im pumped for betts. put him in right, move holt to third and bogarts to ss. won't solve all of the sox problems but at least it gets rid of drew and may get bogarts back on track.

LOL in your dreams. I'm happy for Tim. But he needs to be more consistent

My point is that the Padres are the worst offensive team in baseball in the last 2 decades or something.

I could pitch a 27 strikeout perfecto against them while drunk and underhanding it.

2nd best run differential in the MLB... what in the fuck is going on?

Watch out Oakland, the bloody MARINERS are gunning for that top spot...

If the Cubs sweep or almost sweep the sox, and the Sox almost swept the yanks, then does that make the cubs better than the yanks?

Play well against teams that are actual contenders and I'll consider Seattle worth a damn. It's been a cupcake schedule since almost May with you guys. Hell, all season really. I don't think you've faced a division leader since early June.

Meanwhile Oakland has to play 11 straight games against division leaders right now haha. I can't wait till we face 12 of 15 against the Texas teams and Tampa later this month.

just when i think boston may have turned a corner...

And yet somehow now they'll do something like go and win the next 7 straight. They do just enough to reel you back in before disappointing again.

Welcome to my world!

Well with the A's having added Jeff Samardzija to their rotation they are certainly making a stronger case to at least make it out of the AL.

Watching the Red Sox has certainly been frustrating it just one piece at a time that isn't ready, rotation is often inconsistent and Victorino keeps having set backs...

Jesus fucking H-christ what a holy shit awesome deal!!! BILLY BEANIOUS YOU BEAUTIFUL SON OF A BITCH I WILL KISS YOU ON THE FACE!

The one biggest thing I was worried about - our rotation - is now the one thing I'm LEAST worried about!

Many idiots are mad that we're mortgaging our future by trading Addison Russell (as if he's the next Jeter or something...) but you know what? I'd trade being the Braves to be the Marlins any year.

Kazmir. Gray. Samardijxyza. Hammel. Chavez/Milone/Pomeranz.

This shit makes our last two playoff rotations look hilarious all of a sudden. And we keep Shark next season, as well, giving us a very good top-3 guys for a whole other season at minimum, with at least 3 or 4 great options for back-end rotation depth next season.

Please give us 110 wins and a world series title, now? PLEAZ.

God dammit!!!!!! Come on! The Giants are playing like a little league team.

Really pissing me off. Bumgarner has been off for a while now. And the offense needs to score some runs

Lol. SF is playing like the Garbage I expected to start the season. Time to finish them off on their overhyped diamond.

overhyped? watch your mouth

Dude, Unwarranted Wiretapping park is fine and all but at the end of the day, it's just a fucking ballpark. If you can't win in it, who gives a shit - I'd take winning in the Coli any day over views of murky water, free wifi, 14$ polish dogs, and LF obstructed views that you'll get in SF.

Here's another thing. When Oakland sells out, there's a butt in every seat.

...when the Giants sell out, there are at least 1000 empty seats. I'm seeing a lot of those tonight.

two words, Boston Beards

All your teams blow

I almost tugged Napoli's beard! I was at a sox game and they had a free meet and greet type thing going on on the field, Napoli was walking by and i was yelling at him asking to tug his beard and he ignored me haha

holt with the walk off! damn they are bad but they are such a likable group now that aj is gone.

The legend of Brock Holt!! Yeah I mean just about every game I'm afraid we're going to get no hit. But with Tanaka on the 15 day DL maybe longer, blue jays luck finally running out might be too early to count us out of the AL East...

So much for being all mighty and shit, Seattle. Thanks for sucking against the Disney Movie and giving them two free wins.

^when drew takes you deep for 3 you know you are in for it. really good night for the sox though, seems like the bottom of the order is picking it up. and that catch holt made, holy fuck.

Do the Athletics even sell out games? I'm all for rooting for the Atlhletics when they are not playing the Giants. It's stupid all this hate that goes on just because of territorial rights (most of the time).

Yes. They have sold out every weekend game since June, and they are averaging 26k people per game.

...and it goes far beyond territorial rights (which is a massive issue, and if you were an A's fan, you'd fully be pissed off at the Giants too) It also comes from the age old Penninsular superiority complex and the feeling of entitlement that San Franciscans so often feel. I mean, I go to a Bar and tell someone to put the A's game on and I'm scoffed at by some orange clad idiot because "who the fuck watches the A's..." or other downright retarded questions like "Do the Athletics even sell out games?"

To Giants fans it's if Oakland doesn't matter or something - meanwhile Oakland has historically facewrecked the Giants in every way, and were fundamental upon them still being in California in the first place - a favour that has yet to be returned.

So yeah. Fuck the Giants. Have fun treading the wake that the mediocre Dodgers are going to leave you in now that you've come back down to earth and found your suck again.

being a red sox fan, i obviously don't like the yankees. BUT it doesn't seem like we're in the run for the series this year. (actually who knows the AL east is fucked up right now, so we could still make it) I wouldn't mind seeing Jeter win it this year. Gotta give re2pect to the captain.

lol i ordered a re2pect tshirt last week for my bday to add to my jeter shirt collection. yeah, the AL East is fucked. yankees can easily make it, red sox could always pull a hot streak out of their ass

The Giants home woes need to stop. Sabean needs to make another deal.

(hopefully for a second baseman. Uggla isn't going to cut it)

And we need Pagan and Belt back in the lineup.

The Giants are my team and always will be. But i have no hate towards the A's. I wish them the best of luck. All this hate is stupid
