Mitsubishi's Announcement to end the Evo

Bringing this thread back on track..

The new WRX sedan is pretty sweet in my opinion, and I'm guessing they'll bring back the hatch in a year or so. I've been told they account for half the WRXs sold.

I'm also guessing the STI will get the newer FA20 engine in the next year or so, catching it up with the WRX in terms of all new body and engine.

But unlike the Evo, there's actually hope these things will can happen. Tough to be an Evo fan right now.

I'm a Subaru guy but I'll miss the Evo. I hope it's not gone for good.

Ya it happens but it is hardly noticeable, turbo lag was only really a problem when turbo cars were still a relatively new idea

I hope that one day the Evo will return and soon I hope the WRX/STI hatch will also but with the new design for the sedan a hatch wouldnt look as good as the most recent.

Im always gonna be Evo over STI but once I get the money and sell my gay CRV I might get a WRX

Volvo s60r's Im pretty sure, my friend who is a big Volvo guy and a mechanic says that since the stock turbo is fairly big they take time to spool up.

Do you know what a fucking claim is? It's pretty much the equivalent of bragging on the internet, and no one wants to see or hear it. So get the fuck outta here!

My STI is pretty awful and it's only 7 years old. No power until 3000 RPM or so and then...WHAPOW. Granted, it hasn't been stock for quite some time, but as I recall it was not much better when I first got it. I will hand it to the higher end brands like BMW, though. Before I bought my R32 I drove a bunch of 335s and they just pull like mad. Endless torque. You are right that turbo lag isn't as big of a problem as it used to be, but to say it isn't even noticeable except for cars made "when turbo cars first started," or whatever you actually said, is completely idiotic.

The fact that you didn't even describe turbo lag sort of proves my point. Turbo lag is not the revs at which the engine reaches max boost rather turbo lag is the amount of time it takes the turbo spool back up once the engine is already above the revs required to create max boost

I'd argue that yes lag still exists in turbos. They are mechanical devices that require a real amount of time to get moving. But manufacturers can choose to design the rest of the engine around this limitation, with the ultimate goal of more consistent power delivery.

The control over engines has steadily advanced in terms of extracting more power from smaller motors. So they can throw a turbo in for high rpm power while also allowing the low end to not feel quite so gutless in comparison.

Lag still exists but can be better balanced.

Yeah I think the new hatch would end up looking pretty similar to the current Impreza hatchbacks. As long as they give it the slightly flared fenders and a bit of a meaner look I think it would be cool.

Turbo lag is the hesitation between throttle position change and change in power output. AKA the time it takes the turbo to build boost after you put your foot on the floor. In the STI, unless I'm already at 3000-3500 RPM when I tickle the giggle pedal, I have to wait patiently before I'm actually going anywhere.

It isn't related to the power output though, it is just related to the boost pressure.

Say the stis max boost is 10psi( I have no idea what it actually is) and it makes it at 3500, turbo lag would be the time it takes for the turbo to build max boost when you get on the pedal and are already above 3500.

In the same sense if a sti only makes 3 psi at 2000 rpm, the lag would only be the time it takes for the turbo to reach 3 psi again, not max boost.

BIG NEWS!!

According to Mitsubishi employees there WILL be a 2015 Evo. I have seen comments saying that they recently had an event where they showed the car to employees and showed them how to properly sell it

The news got me erect

That XKR and GLK aren't even fucking claim worthy. Cars that are slightly over 100k, nothing. I know a guy that's in his 30's and owns a Lambo Aventador, a Saleen S7, 2 Ford GT's, and 2 Dodge Vipers. Now that.....that's claim worthy. Jealousy courses in my veins whenever I even think about it hahaha.

Anywho, EVO's were always sick cars, but never tickled my fancy. It'll be interesting to see if they produce anything new to kind of fill the gap.

Hahaha this thread has been killing me ever since that clown posted pictures of his parents car. A Mercedes glk and a middle of the road jaguar? People really think that your Cars are nice? You have the SMALLEST crappiest merc SUV that they make. There is nothing impressive about that car it doesn't even cost that much money for a merc. You must be one of those people who buy bottom of the barrel luxury Cara to act like you have money but when if comes down to it everyone knows your a peasant

my bet (it would be smart at least) is that mitsubihi continues to make a very limited run of evos every year.

Twas a sad day. Those cars are so sick. Pretty much like a twin to the wrx..except they don't look alike at all

Luckily I'm a Subaru guy so this doesn't really affect me at all. Although every time I see an evo I get almost as excited as when I see a wrx.

I don't think it's a very good move by Mitsubishi though. The evo in my opinion is their only good car left. The eclipses nowadays look like a joke.. Their days are past

They were like non-identical twins. There's a resemblance, but its not quite identical and clearly related.

From a Yahoo article (in the comment section)

I work for Mitsubishi. These Yahoo writers keep getting dumber and dumber. The EVO is here to Stay. We just had a training event and the EVO (2015) was show cased. All you Mitsu haters out there. Mitsubishi just had it best year since 2008. So I would say it is here to stay.
