Mistys?

they are my favorite trampoline trick, because they are so effortless, but i cant do them on skis. I don't see people doing them regularly like people do corks and stuff, so I was wondering if they just feel extremely weird on skis or something because they are rarely done on skis.

so basicly, are they just not fun on skis, or do people just not like doing them?

also, are they hard to learn on skis?

bump, i have the same question. i do them on diving boards and traps all the time too, wanna try one this winter on skis.

i see misties making a come back. why not? i think they just got over played and now everything that is old is new again. you know?

if you can do it on tramps you can do it on snow, just get used to the pop of one jump and just give'er.

frontflips seem more scary to me than a misty. it just seems easier to spot your landing

yah only off cornices and cliffs though, never tried it outside of the powder, but mistys are WAY easier on the trampoline for me at least.

and to Alex_g thats a good point, [claim] i can do any trick on the trampoline except for most doubles[/claim]. so i should probably be able to do it on skis, for example last year i wanted to learn corks on skis because i learned them on tramps the summer before and then i just went for them on skis and after a couple of tries i could do them regularly off this one jump.

yeah i have them pretty dialed on trampolines too, only 5s though.
one day next season... with enough pow and THC i might try one...

Misties are the first (and so far only) invert I have learned so far on skis. This winter I want to try some off bigger jumps and work on backflips and cork spins.

whats weird is i cant seem too spin very fast on tramps so i think i can do more on skis then tramp. but then again maybe my tramp sucks.

might just be me, but i think that rodeos would be easier to do. you let the lip do so much fork, instead of having to huck it forward. that being said, i havent attempted either on snow yet, but i can do them both on trampolines and diving boards. rodeos are just easier for me. on a 1 meter board i can throw misty 5s, but i can throw rodeo 9s with out too much trouble. i know its alot different on snow, with skis, etc, but teh spin feels more natural to me.

how do u throw them off a diving board? u just jump backwards?
when i do mistys i usually get a running start so i couldn't do that for rodeos.

chris logan has one of the dopest misty 5's in the biz no doubt. 5's are pretty effortless if you do em right. i never could get em good, i used to do 7s all the time. it was the first off axis thing i learned. i didn't do em at all in the 06-07 season. end of the season last year i did one and its like riding a bike. a little scary to try at first cause its an all or nothing kind of set, but once you got it you got it.

ok. same here, i can do misty 5's. im pretty sure they are misty's. i can do it off a diving board same with backflips and frontflips, frontflip 1's, frontflip 3's and a lincon loop. i wana be about to backflip frontflip and misty all next year, do you suggest doing it on a medium size jump, big, in powder or like small?

ok i will explain as best i can. i start off running from about 1/4 of the way on the board (so i am running approx 3/4 the length of the board) i do a set up jump a few feet from the edge so when i land im right on the edge. when i land my feet are anlgels slightly to the left, as i spin left. from the bounce rebound, i throw my arms across my body from right to left and look my head up and then over my left shoulder and look at the water till i enter. to keep the rotation going into a 7,9 or 10 (did that once), just huck it harder and keep spotting your landing when you are perpendicular to the water until you complete your desired spin. hope that helps. ill see if i can get some footage up if you want/

frontflip 1 is just that, a frontflip with a 180 out. a misty is the opposite of a rodeo. its really little more than a super off axis 5, or an inverted flat 5. so you go through 540 degres of rotation, but your feet are abouve your head at some point.

trust me i used to think that too cuz there such a basic trick on a tramp. what i did was i started to learn them off of benches, ledges etc. you can try this too its easy. what you can do is stand near the edge of a picnic table and throw down your arm just like you would for a misty, except plant your hand down on the edge of the table and rotate the misty off the table so its like a handplant misty, after doing this only a few times i worked up the courage to just throw misty. I know this sounds weird but i think doing things on the ground helps give you the confidence to try things on skis. cuz lets face it, shit is way less scary on a tramp like you can throw almost anything you want and land on your back or side and just bounce back up. I couldnt break the fear of doing mistys on skis or any inverted trick for that matter, but once i started doing things on the ground and landing on the ground i really got a better feel of what its like doing shit not on a trampoline. plus now its just fun as hell throwing mistys and lincolns of shit anywhere i go. But doing a misty on skis is the same thing it just seems scary cuz its on skis. all you need to do is find a decent sized jump with decently soft snow (which is almost impossible on the east coast i know) and do the same thing except huck yourself a little harder. I also encourage you to try things just on the ground into softer grass or even mats if you can find any. But thats just me idk.

You all are correct when you say that misty 5's aren't like front flip 180s. However, learning how to front flip is the best thing you can do when learning a misty 5. the take offs for both tricks (front and misty 5) are extremely similar, where you have to dive out with both arms in front of you on take off. In a frontflip, you hold that extended position that you get in while diving out on taking off. the difference between a front and a misty from that point on is in a misty you roll over your trailing shoulder, keeping your feet from going directly over your head and more over the side.

thats a giant coincedence actually, because me and my friend just learned how to do corks, mistys, backflips, and flatspins off of his porch just three days ago. your right though it seemed pretty scary like a month ago when i was thinking of doing them, but now they seem way easier after i was doing everything off of his porch.

Years ago I learned mistys on a tramp and felt they were a really natural trick with the right set. So I decided to try one on skis. The first one I did I set just as I did on a trampoline, had no idea what was going on in the air and landed right on my feet. And they kept going just like that (although I developed a clue what was going on). The next year I decided I'd try one in a line off of 25' cliff and came right around to my feet, too. Then I tried it again and split my head open.

misty's are way weirder on skis but its a awesome feeling, you gotta try it. its like getting high. haha.

Same boat here too...

Yeah I've been trying to get used to some new tricks on the tramp this year as well and have been wondering how they will feel on skis... On skis I've done back and fronts but no inverts with spin yet. I have been throwing misty's, rodeos, corks and d-spins on the tramp this summer and think that it will feel different but at the same time it is teaching me body control and hoe to spot the landings.

And +++Karma for your help and thread

yeah i can do them easy of tramp and diving boards, but when i tried them at coc i couldnt land em, ill jst have to try it more next season

Their so easy on skis! Heres proof...

whooooohooooo! ^ good effort on the old huck-o-meter right there... jut try it into pow and it won't hurt easy-peasy

Misty is definitely one of the most fun tricks on skis, for sure. What's more fun than a misty 7 (other than a backflip)? Nothing!! They're also underplayed lately, you just don't see a lot on big jumps....but yeah it's all about the misty flip all day long

i cant spin for my life.. so i just throw misty variations.. they really arent as weird as people think.. it does feel a lot different because you have to leav foward and almost pop of you noses.. when you a trampoline you can just push off with your feet
