This is why this situation gets so fucked up. The guy rioting may have legit been pissed about the police killing and the owner may have been legit fearing for his life and his livelihood but since we have this mass of destruction then people die in this murky moral grey zone it created.

This is one of the few things I'll agree with you on. Makes no sense. More than large corporation businesses are getting destroyed. Local ones too. What about the low wage employees who aren't working now cuz target is in ruins? All it does is hurt the protest image and further white/black tensions. The money that's being reallocated to police response, security, ems, fire, and cleanup is surely to pull funding from the programs that serve to assist low income folks. Really hurting themselves. It's like throwing your Xbox controller at the wall; only hurts you.

Unrest, mass crowding and looting an already disrupted fragile economy is the LAST thing America needs right now. Prediction: Minneapolis has a covid spike in 2 weeks.
 
There is a "Fuck Shit Up Protest" being planned for my city tomorrow. Their tagline is "Fuck a peaceful protest". The person(s) promoting it are implying molotov cocktails with emojis in their messaging.

I'm not sure if anything will happen. I wouldn't be surprised if Duluth police attempt to quell anything beyond peaceful quickly.

I think theres a decent chance it was rwmated. As far as the internet "knowing"it was a specifoc cop zsounds pretty doubtful. Couldn't see anything. Would be lretty much impossible to identify him from that. Unless people tackled him then and hengit arrested which didnt happen or he brags about it ir something.

That said government agencies have absolutely fucked with protests etc to bring them down or undermine any message.

I've been listening to the police scanner for Hennepin County and from what I can tell there's a big crowd (they have mentioned a crowd numbering 2000+, idk if this is the same crowd) descending upon the Minneapolis Police Department 5th Precinct.

The 5th precinct, which is what I've been keeping tabs on, is located next to, but left of, the 3 (dead center). This area is not where this supposed 2000+ crowd is (that one is probably the red hot spot directly east of the 5th precinct).

Was just listening to hannepin County and they said firefighters were getting assaulted. Now that pisses me off. Those are the people you don't be dicks to. They do so much more than put out fires and are largely responsible for transporting people to emergency departments from the scene.

Feel like this is a troll but fuck it. I grew up across the street from powderhorn park less than a mile from all of this. Im hoping to go home too but that's completely the wrong attitude. As white ppl (think its fair to make that assumption on ns) the last thing we should be doing is looting or rioting. We need to be in those spaces helping poc who have been maced, shot with rubber bullets etc. All of this started because majority white instigators began ruining peaceful protests and tarnished the beginning of what could have been and still could be a great movement.

My question is how will change even happen? The police force in this country has a grip on power that they were never give up. They have all the poitlic power and sway through the law system and politics. Too many years of unchecked power and too many people supporting it with blind faith.

What's the answer how do we as a nation have some kind of accountability for law enforcement? Chest camera deffentity didnt work. Do we start with disbanding the police unions? Not allowing cops to review the judgement of other cops? Changing the way police are trained? Have a better system of discipline when a cop does something terrible the first time, besides 2 weeks paid vacation?

Definitely sketchy as fuck, my neighborhood thankfully hasn't been affected by looters or riots but everyone is super on edge. It's getting really out of hand and honestly is ridiculous. LA in 1992 all over again

Change will happen when the average middle class (predominantly white) community fears for their young to be gunned down in the streets by the state as poverty stricken minorities may.

Untill then, a majority of 'support' for these riots will simply be optics, advertisement opportunities, and white people belittling themselves for internet pats-on-the-back.

Nothing really changed after Rodney King and the LA riots. I'd assume this will be similar.
