This is people standing up to a broken system. They have every right to be outraged, especially considering the police officer hasn't been brought to justice. You're not going to get middle & upper class white people's attention without making their comfortable, privileged, & insulated lives, uncomfortable. People don't give a shit about anything, until it affects them.
I don't support thieves & looting, but America needs the civil unrest right now—the only way to protest a system that commodifies every single aspect of life and values economics over human lives, is to show the very fragility of it. The moment in time we are all living through is going to be pivotal for the future of "the greatest country in the world." The sense of nationalism that COViD-19 has brought to the forefront of the collective conversation will be a good thing for Americans—they will have no one to blame for their actions, but themselves (I can still guarantee there will be some sort of scapegoat, though.) After all, the borders to Canada and Mexico are closed, and no other country wants to let Americans in without a case for repatriation, i.e. dual-citizenship.
Irony is, Trump finally got what he wanted; America first. All hail the almighty dollar, am I right?
