Mining Accident in Virginia

I went to bed thinking they found 12 miners alive and now I read this morning that it was "bad information" and all but one is dead and he is braindead so wtf?

 
some one fucked up, every one makes mistakes and its not like they said some thing that lead to the 12 others deaths
 
didn't the rescuers say that they just found 12 miners? saying nothing about them being alive. isn't this the kind of information that you think someone would double check?
 
12 died, 1 survived.. it's horrible, especially since the families were told they were alive. they even had a press conference about miracles.. then they found out the news was incorrect.
 
headline of my newspaper: 12 survive, 1 dead.

reality: 12 dead, 1 survive.

the media seriously needs to change. does anyone remember something similar in the 2000 election? (ie fox news saying bush won)
 
thats because they print the newspaper in the night and that happened after they were printed and they dont have enough time to re-print and they need to get all the other stories out
 
I just can't believe that the wrong story got all the way to print and through the entire media - they were interviewing the families live after they were told they survived.
 
yea they messed that one up. when i went to bed they were all estatic becaue they were all alive, and they were giving interviews with all sorts of people. now they aint so christian anymo
 
so fucked up...especially since the associated press kinda disregarded their guidelines to have multiple sources of confirmation before publishing stuff like that....damn i feel sorry for those families
