When I started at Zumiez I only made 6.75 an hour...... I was in highschool and living large.

 
i made 6.15 at my first job. i also got the "at cost" discount, my dick felt HUGE. i saved up and bought a playstation 3 in like just a few weeks of working 3 days a week. flossy as FUCK.
 
how the fuck is minimum wage, racist? you think that they won't hire minorities are raised? you know there are laws in place to promote equal opportunity employment... and a case can easily be made if there was a violation... it's pretty obvious when it does. what the hell is your point?
 
I work at a restaurant bussing table.Its theshit. 5.50 an hour plus tips. During the week you make like 35 to 40 in tips and on fridays anywhere from 60 to 75 in tips...Id suggest

well i feel lucky to be making $11.30 , which is a dollar more than minimum here in ontario.
 
this is econ 101 stuff.
It is the classic argument for how min wage laws through the market equilibrium off for what manufacturers are willing to pay for a service and what the demand is in the market.
E.G. Pay for fast food workers goes from $5 to 7. Fast food companies hire less and employ less. Who benefits? Only the people who keep their jobs at the new wage rate. The doubly whammy is when the wage goes from 5 to 7 and the # of people willing to work for $7 compared to $5 increases exponentially which brings more qualified candidates to the work force. IN the end you can argue that the min. wage law then hurt the people that it was established to protect (low income/low skilled workers).

because of the shit storm that comes from government intervention into private enterprises forcing them to run their company a certain way.

why stop at $7.25?

if you really want to get at the heart of it the government is doing nothing more than stifling your ability to negotiate freely.

 
$10 an hour. lifeguarding on a beach at the lake. nothing ever goes wrong. i sit an tan all day. make money. pick up chicks. and get paid for it at the end of the week. id do it for minamum wage
 
$16 min. wage in Australia.
I hear a few lifeguards in California make over $200k a year also. Just read this today even. Some people are homeless or struggling to get buy, meanwhile all you need is a decent body and the ability to save lives and you can make like $200k a year. I sure as hell would rather be a lifeguard makin 200k compared to some say... paramedic busting my ass.

 
probably. I was making $9 an hour at buck hill when I was 16. I was getting around $15 an hour from Zumiez when I figured in commission. My commission checks were bigger than my pay checks. Yay Mall of America! I was always the kid that got the better jobs/pay.... lately that doesn't seem to be going as well. I make up for it by charging 30 - 60 an hour for web development.
I'm not average though. I had a resume at 16 and could list off every action sports company in existence and who owned who at what pros were on what teams at 16. But, that's what it took.
 
i cant say this as a white male. but mr Williams as a black male can. the percentage of black youth (and some adults) with the skills needed to be worth what the minimum wage is now is less than white people. posted on my phone
 
I agree that it is also to much, but I think the job is a lot harder than you are thinking. Its not like your local pool they have to watch over very crowded beaches, be prepared for anything at any time,in very good shape, be focused, and try there best not to just stare at hot chicks all day.

Plus I think it is also in a very very wealthy part of cali
 
unemployment will rise, the marginal benefit gained from hiring each additional worker will become negative much faster than without minimum wage. one of the reasons minimum wage is terrible
 
Sure you may have to do some amount of work but trying to compare a lifeguard to a paramedic is like comparing a Green Beret to the National Guard
 
yeah but that only about 12 people and those are the top people like you have to win LIFE guarding compsations to be offered a job there also its hard as fuck to be a life guard at a beach im not saying its a 100,000k job but i bet 100 top if that could do it on ns
 
i would tend to agree that the job market would be better in theory if their was no minimum wage. positions would be filled based on peoples willingness to do the said job based on how much it paid. if the job didnt pay enough noone would do it. Think about it.... The minmum wage laws dont apply to industries that refuse to recognize its existance. Take farming for instance. Many harvesting positions are filled by illegal migrant workers who travel around the country working for a dollar or two an hour if they are lucky...
 
This is essentially slave labour and precisely the reason the minimum wage exists... which just brings us to the inevitable question: you have a point, so, what's your alternative?
 
ya make the minimum wage above the poverty line or get rid of it and let the free market control wages. at least then the government will have to acknowledge that the current minimum wage is a joke or that they shouldnt have anything to do with it.
 
I make 30 bucks a week and i have to wake up at 5 every morning to deliver papers. To make it worse, my fatass clients have to have their papers in very specific spots, like in their garage or inside their door.

So instead of having my 30 people walk 25 seconds each every day, it falls on me to walk an extra 15-20 minutes through snow/rain etc. Which doesnt sound bad , but the alternative is staying inside my car, coasting to about 10 mph, and throwing it out the window. I did that once and almost got fired. FUCK /rant. Im still grateful cuz its the only job i can take
