okay, im going to buy a minidisc, unless i get one for christmas...

i have a few questions.

the MDs say 80 mins, but the thing says over 5 hours when its a different type, does the sound get noticably shittier when you lower the quality?

also, is it better than MP3?

yah, you can tape for 80mins, 160mins, 320mins or 400 and something mins (on the sony ones anyways). I can't tell the diffence between the quality of 80mins or 320mins. if you go 400 and whatever mins then it records in mono.

something like that anyways..

yeha no real difference in the quality unless you listen to it at a studio or somethin, then you could tell but that doesnt matter so get one cause minidisc players are that shit

then there is LP2- 10% less quality-not audible

LP4-10% more-slightly, slightly noticeable but hardly.

Fuckin rad sound. Get a good set of cans to go with it and they're dope!

Get an MP3. you dont have to deal with the disks, it never ever skips, and you can change your music on the computer whenever you want.

Mini disc players are the best, and you can double the record lenght by changing it to mono instead of stereo which isn't as cool but it is still great

 
I record on my MD (Sony) in LP2, and I can't tell the difference. I haven't recorded in LP4 yet, I spose I should try it! I'm really glad I bought mine.

buck490, a minidisc player never skips, and you can use a computer to change whats on the discs as well. Also, unless you buy a harddrive MP3 player, you can have more songs with a minidisc player.

I've never recorded in the other modes, I should try sometime. But MDs are so sweet. I have a SHARP one. The Audio quality is better then my friends sony, but his records easier.

i JUST bought a sony net MD, model MZ-505, it is this shit. way better than an mp3 player, because it holds more on one disk than what you can hold on a 256 meg card.. which costs like $200 canadian... and MD's are $5. i think the ONLY thing better than the net md's are apple's iPod, but those cost a lot more, but they are super sick. and i record all my songs in LP4 mode, and can't tell the difference.

i already have the sony mdr 300 headphones... so sound isnt really a big problem.

MD's sound quality never, ever decreases no matter how many times you record on it. They rock, way better than mp3's...

Freestyla... your headphones don't mean half as much as the output device. Not entirely true. But the sound will not get any better with headphones. If it comes out of the player, be it MP3 or MD, with shitty sound, then you're going to have shitty sound!

meh, better headphones do make the music sound better, regardless of the output device.

so, what youre saying is, that if i were to go out and buy a pair of $5 earbud/phone things, that just stick into your ears, i'd get the same sound out of them as i would from some $200 headphones...

i had and MD player for like 2 years but now i use my CD player. THe Md player was too much of a hassle and was a pain to burn the MDs... much easier to burn Cds.

 
I bought the MZ 505 or whatever about three weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. The battery life is UNREAL! One AA battery lasted almost 3 weeks. I couldn't beleive it. I love my minidisc. plus discs are so damn inexpensive its great.

Yeah MP3's cost quite a lot of money when you want a lot of space on it. While minidisc costs less.

solid state mp3 players are expensive thats why you get a cd player that reads discs of mp3s and guess what they hold more than a minidisc and are half the price. and no they do not skip. and you can use a cdrw and change the songs as much as you like, and minidiscs do wear out trust me.

nipe, I have a job, I also have to pay for my school tuition and living expenses. I grant you that the iPod may be better in some ways, but for the money a MiniDisc is a very good value.

whatever, im a happy cocky idiot nonetheless.

Im just saying this to the kids that think their MDs rule everything else..because of... well they really dont have a reason. I saved alot of money for my ipod. If you have a MD because thats what you can afford and have no need for the extras that come with an ipod or you like buying little CDs or whatever, thats fine i dont care.. just dont get cocky towards me about owning a MD..thast all im asking.

Ive had mine for like 5 years...Sharp 821...digital sound and no other recording modes,i still like it better than any mp3 player to date...

minidiscs aren't good cuz they take so long to burn. at least on my player. it was one of the first ones that came out and you can only record at 1x. i used it for a while but then i got a CD player cuz its just less hassle and the CD player is small enough to fit in my pocket when i'm skiing so its no problem.
