what is the best type to get, and why?

get the premiums. but whatever you get stick with. if you keep changing out brands your gonna need to get your heads cleaned

Sony and Panasonic are the best. Use Sonys with Sony cams and Pana with Pana Cams. Sonys might be a rough on Pana heads.

Cheap, good and reliable. Edgewise has good prices on Panasonic tapes too.
